Is Andi's hair cut within regulation length? Well — maybe; hard to say, considering its wild, large, loose, wavy curls. The answer is probably "only when dry", when her hair is a sun-kissed honey, relentlessly flyaway when not confined in a desperately-severe braid and a riding helmet. The rest of the time, well… the slightest of breezes picks it up and plays with it, and if its curls weren't so resolute, it would be a wretched tangle-maze of snarls by the end of each and every day. Instead, it looks as if she puts vast amounts of care into it every day, as a Holder lady who wanted similar curls must do — and the sun doesn't restrain itself to kissing her hair, but rather leaps from strand to strand to pick out flecks of a similar honey in her hazel, wide-set, large and smiling eyes, where they are set beneath a strong forehead with thin-arching eyebrows. Her nose lies straight and narrow, settled comfortably in the middle of her face, the faintest of lines already marking the way her wide mouth, with its sensuous lips, is prone to smiling and laughing — among other behaviors. All in all, her face takes the shape and sense of a laughing heart, hidden away beneath wisp after wisp of flyaway hair.

Light(n)ing the Way Brown Vedoriath

He's as dark and rough as the bark of a great tree whose strength has been tested by wind and lightning both, his form weathered until smooth across the powerful muscles of his chest and legs. The jagged marks of tan and amber that seem almost to split the rough hide across his back dwindle in size but not number as they race towards his great paws and long tail, returning once more to strike the tips of neckridges and singe a path down the dark curve of his belly.

History

Miranda was born the oldest child of Lemos Hold's wealthy stablemaster and his wife; she is followed by two younger brothers. While she wanted to work in the stables like her father, this wasn't seen as a womanly enough job for the family's beautiful-ish young daughter; she would do something properly feminine, and then get married and have children. All of which was, really, quite fine with Miranda. Much as she loved runners, and was an excellent rider, it was more of a manly thing, wasn't it?

She learned to draw some, and she worked as a seamstress at the Hold proper. Designing certainly wasn't her forte, so she wasn't about to go join the Weavercraft — and was too much of a homebody to abandon her Hold anyway — but she was very good at stitching and sewing and developed a habit of quilt-making in her spare time, too. Her childhood and early teenage years were largely uneventful and, for a coming Pass, impressively idyllic.

They were shaken up by Searchriders when Miranda was sixteen; they came from Fort and not from Benden, which was strange enough, but with a gold egg they could search wherever they wanted, couldn't they? The little family was ecstatic at the idea of Miranda as a future Weyrwoman, and so even if she didn't expect to or want a gold dragon of her own, she accepted. She was sure she'd Impress green, if she Impressed at all, and even if women on fighting dragons weren't really wanted, there were surely worse fates? Hatching day brought a surprise to everyone, though; the incredibly girlish Miranda did not end up with the gold, nor did she find herself with a green, but had Impressed before a single female dragon had yet graced the sands. After the hatching of two or three blues, a very large and noisy brown smashed his way through his eggshell and found his way to her, declaring himself Vedoriath and renaming her Andi (first a name that her younger brother called her because he couldn't say 'Miranda' right, it was now going to stick to her forever).

Their weyrlinghood had only the expected twists and turns of one where there was a fair, ladylike female entirely happy with her former lot in the world on a massive, loud and proud brown — she stuck by Vedoriath, not ashamed of her Impression even if it wasn't the most respected thing. She'd never had strong feelings on Weyr politics. Maybe it wasn't the worst thing. So they did the best they could as weyrlings, somewhat thwarted both by Andi's femininity making her even more easily mocked than perhaps a tomboy would've been and by Vedoriath's ego and overconfidence in his skills. They did get there, though. They got as good as they could and as strong as they could, and they came out pretty good indeed —

Just in time to have nowhere to go. Weyrlinghood ended and none of the wings wanted them. Shuffling them off to Igen or Ista seemed wisest, but shortly after graduation Andi caught word of Southern Weyr, and it was there that she finally put in for a transfer, taking control of her own departure from Fort before the Weyrleaders could use her as some sort of pawn.
