Description

Messy, dark brown hair sits atop this young man's head, always slightly askew no matter how much of an attempt is made to tame its waves. Although he's lean in frame and not particularly tall, his toned — one might even say muscular — arms suggest that at least some effort has been put into fitness. In fact, his unassuming looks hide a well-built upper body, but those muscles are very rarely not hidden beneath clothing. His youth still shows in face; though handsome, his looks lean more toward boyish than rugged and manly. He often sports an easygoing smile which crinkles the skin around his brown eyes, hinting at where crow's feet may show themselves turns and turns in the future. There's a sort of effortless charm to his clean-cut look, and while his quiet optimism may not be for everyone, it certainly doesn't seem to hurt him.
Eanraig is wearing simple clothes which reflect the climate in which he resides. A simple shirt and pants are his usual dress code of choice, in varying dark shades. Although he doesn't stick just to a black, he does tend to favor dark blues, greens, and different shades of grey. His trusty boots are well-worn and well-loved — perhaps even to the point of needing to be replaced.

History

Eanraig was born in Bitra, the elder son of a family which was just scraping by. His father took off shortly after his sister was born, leaving his mother to attempt to care for the two while still doing enough work to earn her place at the hold. His mother died when the boy was 8 turns of age, leaving him in the care of his uncle, Raghnall. Although Raghnall tried to look after the kids, he was irresponsible and frequently in and out of the brig, leaving the children to fend for themselves. Rather than foster them with another family — something he'd promised his sister he wouldn't do — Raghnall instead gave the children to a kind older woman who'd seen how much he was struggling. She offered to take the children with her caravan for a turn, which would give Raghnall time to get his life in order and would offer the kids the opportunity to see more of Pern.

And so Eanraig and his sister Ailsa found themselves living with the Meall, a caravan with a reputation on the road for crooked dealings and a fondness for revenge. Unbeknownst to Raghnall, the caravan's leader had a history with his sister, Eala, and taking the children was meant to be bait. A turn passed, and it became clear that the Meall had no intention of returning them to their uncle. While no one was overtly violent toward the children — opting for a harsh word or ignoring them entirely — they made the pair earn their keep. Given that Ailsa was four turns younger than him, Eanraig often pushed himself to the point of exhaustion to ensure that his sister was not worked too hard.

They hadn't yet been with the Meall for two turns when Eala showed up to rescue them. Eanraig wasn't eager to trust a new person, in spite of his mother's many stories about their aunt when he was growing up, but it was a far better alternative she offered to staying with the caravan. Eanraig and Ailsa moved to Igen to begin a new life, preferring the unknown over their current predicament.

Since arriving in Igen, Eanraig has slowly come into his own. Once he learned how to do so, he developed a fondness for reading which eventually lead to his work as an archives assistant. He adopted his aunt as a mother figure and took to her weyrmate as well. Although Ailsa has had a much easier time of it, Eanraig (at least on the surface) shows very little evidence now of the trials of his younger years. Igen has brought him happiness, and he has every intention of repaying the Weyr tenfold.
