Description

It feels fitting that this slender young woman should have a heart-shaped face, given the warm loveliness of her features: that all noses should be so pert, lips so perfectly curved, skin so flawless, eyes so enigmatically dark. On others, the warm tone of her skin would be called dusky; on Mahalia, it is merely a shade that makes all else feel sallow in comparison. Dark hair spills over narrow shoulders, often touched with practiced artifice to curl about the ends in beachy waves, casual-by-design. She is slim, long-legged for her average height, high-waisted, with flared hips and a moderate swell of bust. If there are imperfections - the point of her chin, a particular angularity of elbows, an adolescent gawkiness of wrist and ankle - they bring depth to the whole, artful life incarnate in poised appeal.

History

Not so forthcoming about her past, Mahalia keeps the details of her history bare while others struggle to keep the tale straight. What's known is this: she hails from Fort Hold (her accent is a dead giveaway) but was fostered in Tillek Hold from early childhood onward — with the family of the Lord Holder, no less.

Although technically a drudge (and subject therein to those duties), she was raised alongside sole child and eventual heir Isana as a companion, handmaiden, and some say, later a confidant when the like-aged woman later married and rose to power. While never commanding any rank herself, this personal closeness to the Lady Holder is rumored to have let her have reaped its benefits — namely a similar education and familiarity with etiquette and diplomacy as a byproduct of watching her from the sidelines.

It was not until after the untimely demise of her parents and then her husband that Lady Isana began to shuffle around those near to her at the Hold and that Mahalia was seemingly relieved of duty and set free — sent off to Southern, to study with the Healer craft. With a revealed affinity for herbology and the bountiful Southern jungles rife with flora and fauna, just what is actually to be made of Mahalia is perhaps best likened to one of the rare blooms she hunts as part of her apprenticeship: elusive and yet to flower.
