Description

Rough work and Rukbat's unforgiving regard have stamped this broad-shouldered man in unmistakable manner: he is rough-hewn and heavily muscled, neither sculpted nor pretty. Dusky skin is not naturally so, pale beneath the cut of his shirt, a farmer's tan that conspires with the faintest sprinkling of freckles to call lie to the otherwise deep burnish of his skin. His face is oval and roughly featured, age giving a certain refinement lacking in his earlier turns: the high cut of his cheekbones and stubborn set of jaw give him a rough charm. Blue eyes glitter with the polish of an uncut stone: emotion resides within, but luck to those who try to read this fortress of a bronzerider… naming emotion upon the sweep of strong features is likely as difficult as counting the strands of sun-lightened muddy-water brown hair, worn long enough to club into a queue at the nape of his neck.

Tall for a man his size, he stands formidable when angry, made doubly worse by the varied spread of scars that touch his skin. Two massive threadscores make a mess of what would otherwise be a smooth back, one curling from shoulder to shoulder, the others lingering kidney-height. His knuckles are worn and calloused from one too many barfights, his nose faintly off-center — but the most visible is certainly the thin white line that runs from outermost-edge of left eye down past the supple line of his lips, certainly earned in a knifefight long past.

K'ane wears functional, hardy gear: leathers when appropriate, or linen wear, but always of Oldtimer cut. He shuns nowtimer fashion as much as he shuns cold weather gear: he always seems underdressed for the climate, except for the reliability of scuffed-leather boots, well-cared-for. Firelizards often roost on his shoulders.

Back to basics: a worn thing of black and green, with less loops than has been his fashion as of late. A ribbon of bronze winds through the ties that bind: dragonhealer purple, celebrated and faded.

He's worn a lot of hats.

  • K'ane's a prominent Oldtimer. His accent tells that he's from the backwoods of Ista Isle; other than that, likely only fellow Oldtimers from High Reaches would likely know his story.
  • He tries to keep a low profile, seriously, it just never works out. He's a do-it-all, been-there-done-that guy that can hang with nowtimer bronzeriders just as easy as oldtimer radical feminists. He doesn't much care about what side of the time drift someone's from. He's also kind of an asshole, but at least the funny kind. (He thinks he's funny, at least.)
  • First-come from Oldtime, he lived at Igen in a period of high infamy for the desert weyr. His Dhioth won a Fortian goldflight toward the end of his tenure there, and in his brooding time Ja'kai recruited him to help run the weyrlingmaster team. Hannah promoted him to weyrlingmaster, and then Dhioth promoted him to a single term of Weyrleader some time after that. He's an Ocelot bronzerider now, keeping a low profile… for once.
  • K'ane's got a lot of kids. Seriously, a considerable amount. For all of that, he's never been associated strongly with any given woman (or man), and seems to avoid relationships.
  • Dhioth was once a sharp-silver and cold-stone judgment lingering over the weyr, a solid presence very much present in all of the minds he called his own, past wingriders and weyrling alike. He's undergone a change recently. He's less judgmental, at least.

Backpfeifengesicht (n.): a face that cries out for a fist in it.

Relationships

In Progress~~

Ista:

  • Yukie: Someone he has known for forever and a day. Cool, calm, collected.
  • Sienna: He'd kill a person for her. Oh, wait…

HRW:

  • Lendai: Fucking crazy. It's complicated. But no really, she's crazy.
  • Jedi: Mother of his twins. Less complicated. Lovely person.
  • Teya: The little brownrider that could. One of his best friends.
  • Tuli: Frenemy for life. Except they're softer than they used to be. Enemy is almost token these days. (But she's still wrong about crop rotations.)
  • Nika: Clutchmate. Little sister on steroids. Except that having-taken-her-virginity thing. Awk.
  • Yzabet Zeyta: Clutchmate. Guess she finally got laid.

Igen:

  • Kyara: One of Dhioth's candidates. Hard worker. Sweet girl. One of the few Dhioth remembers.
  • Veresch: Plenty of potential there. K'ane wishes she would have left Igen back in the day. All that sand does weird things to people.
  • C'sei: Another candidate's of Dhioth. He doesn't keep up.

Southern:

  • Hannah: A woman he respects. Sometimes she scares the fuck out of him by taking too many risks. He doesn't know what Southern would do without her.
  • El'ai: He was more awesome to hang out with before Lisette got her hooks in him. Speaking of…
  • Lisette: My Lisette!
  • Aikari: His eldest child. If only Lendai would stop fucking spoiling her.
  • Prymelia: Firecracker. Reminds him of better times, when he's feeling macabre.
  • T'ral: Good kid. Someday he'll grow up. (In K'ane's mind.)

Alignment

Based on your answers to the quiz, your character’s most likely alignment is Chaotic Good.

Chaotic Good

A chaotic good character acts as his conscience directs him with little regard for what others expect of him. He makes his own way, but he’s kind and benevolent. He believes in goodness and right but has little use for laws and regulations. He hates it when people try to intimidate others and tell them what to do. He follows his own moral compass, which, although good, may not agree with that of society. Chaotic good is the best alignment you can be because it combines a good heart with a free spirit.
