LEIRE
Location Southern Weyr
Position Journeyman
Craft Weaver
Birthplace Nerat
Played By Margaret Qualley

Description

Pale white skin, hinting at an origin in the north, bares few marks and a subtle plumpness attributed to youth not yet squandered. Her plain brown hair is thick and chopped roughly below the shoulders, and still manages to wisp around her forehead when pulled back from the roundness of her face. Two prominent front teeth and a pair of wide-set murky green eyes, overshadowed by thick black brows, are the more noticeable of her attributes; less so are a rounded chin, squared off nose, rosy lips, and chubby cheeks.

Medium in height and boyish in build, Leire does not stand on the conventional wisdoms of the weavercraft when it comes to her wardrobe. She often pair together contrasting colors, vivid shades, and silhouettes certain - unmentionable - tailors would not deem fashion-forward; quirky would be one word to describe it.

History

Leire hails from within the boundaries of Nerat Hold, to a farmcraft journeyman and his wife. She had what most would call a standard and uneventful upbringing, being born in the middle of four children in the Nowtime. It was never an expectation that she would grow up to enter the farmcraft – she being a she, after all – but her parents did seem pleasantly surprised when she appeared to show some interest, and a modicum of talent, in sewing and mending from an early age. And that interest eventually blossomed into full-fledged determination to join the weavercraft when she became of such an age, which she did.

Not long after starting her apprentice, she landed under the tutelage and mentorship of one of the great dye-creators of the craft, and thereby honed her skills in the same areas: sourcing plants, insects, etc for pigments; creating new colors with these pigments; dyeing fibers and fabrics in new and interesting ways. She walked the tables at twenty-two and a half, much later than many would have suspected, but unsurprising all the same. It took them more than a few months to decide on her posting, which would be at Southern Weyr, working alongside the other posted journeymen and apprentices. There were indigenous plants to sample and the climate would make for interesting dye opportunities.. no one was more excited for the change than Leire.
