In a Nut Shell

Description

Slender enough to be mistaken from behind for a male child, Nika does not break the 5 foot mark. Childish innocence still colours her features, make it hard to guess her true age. Her eyes are large, dark and round on either side of her sharp, slightly pert nose sprinkled with fading freckles. There's the faintest smattering of them along her cheekbones, too, accentuating the narrowness of face and point of chin. Her dark ringlets are cut short, making their wild bounces look all the more childlike and carefree. Such short curls do little to mask the slightness of her frame, however, with her figure being straight up and down, hardly a curve to her hips and the scantest bumps for her breasts.

Common Knowledge

Friendly and curious, Nika often makes friends with unsavory characters - mostly because she is totally unaware. She and Atmanth are always looking for the next adventure.

Nika often smells like Atmanth. It’s a very soft scent reminiscent of a smoky haze, an old cigar; an acrid hint that tickles the nose.

Mother - Died in plague, when Nika was around 10.

Paige: Clutchmate - So glad the woman turned back up at Southern, and on her wing! <3

Arianne: Wingleader - loves her, they compliment each other, and work well together.
Br'er: Wingsecond - He's silly. She's intrigued by the man, she'd like to inspect his brain.
Th'seus: Bronzeriding friend - adores him, but fiercely competitive, can't help but want to beat him at everything…or anything.
Cerise: Friend, though distant - not sure she's ever seen who the girl really is.
Dimitri: Most infuriating and oddly endearing friend she's ever had. She's likes to hang out with him, but would also like to toss him off a cliff.
Jayanti: One of the few people who can make Nika grumpy, but she's come to respect the woman for various reasons. Even they have simply decided they will never understand each other.

History

Kanika was born at Tillek hold, she led a carefree youth. Sweet, innocent, insatiably curious - but then the plague came. When she was still quite young Kanika lost her mother, a blow that outwardly left little change in the girl. Her father fared far worse, and they moved to High Reaches Weyr so he would not be constantly reminded of his lost wife. At 15, a year after moving to the weyr and looking after her father she was searched by R'yst (under the strict orders to make sure her, much older, fellow candidates behaved). She was became very close with most of her clutchmates, and even now years after she and Atmanth graduated from weyrlinghood she stays in contact with them.
