Description

Peaston is a fairly tall man of medium build, round-shouldered yet angular. Sallow skin, actively defying the Igen sun, is offset by shoulder-length, slightly greasy black hair. His grey eyes seem disinterested and disconnected, and his large, hooked nose doesn't do anything to soften his appearance. Indeed, his square jaw is always set very sternly and there's an intermittent twitch in his cheek no matter the circumstances. Long limbs don't add any fluidity to his movement, instead making his stride seem twitchy and forced.

Common Knowledge

• Sr. Journeyman Peaston is well-known for his strict Nowtimer values, especially regarding gender roles.
• He also has an abnormally large nose, which was oh-so-kindly broken for him by Erikkhan.
• There is a particularly rude song about him that is a favorite among Weyr children and is easily adapted for other authority figures one doesn't respect.

Relationships

He had a tumultuous professional relationship with Journeyman Sara, whom he believes is very out of line with, well, everything he believes in. Together, they previously managed The Handsome Harper shop.

History

Peaston was born and raised in Igen on the concept of tradition, here in the "now time". And we're not talking willy-nilly, half-assed tradition here. We're talking full-on Fiddler on the Roof style. Everything and every/one/ has their place, and he, as someone with strong moral values, went into teaching for that exact reason. Thankfully, Harper management was/is quite agreeable to that notion. Weyrbrats can't just be left to run amok… someone has to teach them respect, and women can't just run around in pants and do MEN'S jobs, they have to get back to wearing skirts and making babies! He set himself apart from the crowd by his strict but effective methods. While they surely haven't made him many friends, especially among the female Oldtimer crafters, he gets the job done and gets it done well. Especially in this time of tumultuous structure as Oldtimers are attempting to find their place in New Pern, Harpercraft needs stability and firmness, both of which Peaston is happy to provide in heaps.
