Tresquil's upbringing left him with a strong sense of entitlement – whilst not a Lord, his father is definitely the Holder in the vicinity, and the family has held there for many generations. The holding is prosperous, and he wanted for nothing – except prospects. One son will be Holder after his father, and there are a couple of small properties that traditionally pass around the family, but after that, Esquil’s sons will will have to look elsewhere for advancement. Tresquil was ambitious from an early age, and it was obvious that stewarding for one of his brothers would not appeal. Clearly, a respectable craft was the solution for son no. 4.

South Telgar has a long association with the Healer Craft because of the Hall in its territory; when Tresquil was sent there (despite his protests) to apprentice, he was following a well-worn path for superfluous sons. Fortunately, he both liked and was good at the work. The studying was fascinating, and the masters inspired him to see that a good career could be made here. As a Senior Apprentice he was transferred to the main Hall at Fort Hold to broaden his experience. There, he modelled himself on one master in particular. This might not have been a fortunate choice: Verik's self-importance was as legendary as his skill. By the time he walked the tables as a Jr. Journeyman, Tresquil was convinced of his own bright future and general superiority. His first posting, to an outlying area of Keroon Hold, knocked only a small proportion of that confidence out of him, and gave him an interest in treating trauma – a lot of people seemed to fall off runnerbeasts in Keroon, causing interesting wounds and skeletal damage. Tresquil was convinced that there were better ways of putting them back together, if the Healer Craft would only work out what they were. He does not have a good bedside manner, and wasn’t particularly popular with his patients, but he was becoming very good at sewing up injuries and setting bones. His growing skill attracted the notice of his superiors; he was thought to have a glittering career ahead of him, and became a full journeyman at the earliest opportunity.

His second posting was a prestigious one, to High Reaches Hold. To his bewilderment, it lasted less than two months. The posted Master informed him that he wasn’t considered a good fit for the Hold, and announced his intention of arranging a transfer to the next Weyr that needed another journeyman. He’d be interested in Threadscore, wouldn’t he? Or dragon injuries, even? And, ahem, diseases of dragonriders?

Yes, he would, as it happens. But this was a blow to his prospects, especially as he hadn’t done anything (that he could think of!) to attract such a verdict. Had he offended someone important? Talked of the need for new ways too loudly in this very conservative hold? Or was it something more personal? One of the nieces of the Hold had shown an unwelcome interest in the handsome young healer, which he’d rebuffed. (She sniffed. Constantly.) Whatever the offence, he’d been dismissed from a major Hold and sent to a rather dubious Weyr on the wrong continent. He became even angrier when he discovered that the Master at High Reaches had written to Weyrhealer Varden. Apparently the problem was that not only had he rejected an advantageous match, but that he was suspected of being more interested in her brother. Tresquil denied any such preference in a stormy scene with Varden - accusations were made, and there was shouting, largely on Tresquil's part. He stormed out, and ended up in the Living Cavern, fuming. There he met Weyrsecond Evka, and her Saetyroith asked her to Search him. Still furious, and seeing no future in the Healers with such a reputation, he accepted.
Candidacy did not exactly go well, though he made it up with Varden after a fashion - the Weyrhealer insisted that he do his chore shifts in the infirmary, and connived at getting him some relief from the worst aspects of a particularly crowded candidacy. He came close to giving back his white knot, but the experience of touching eggs worked some kind of change in him, and he became determined to see it through - though he never expected to Impress. However, green Myrraith chose him, which knocked a large dent in his carefully-preserved self-image, and he became T'quil.
As a weyrling, he did quite well, becoming one of the weyrling wingseconds. The whole process has knocked quite a bit of the stuffing out of him: he's much more relaxed and approachable these days. He was tapped into Serval Wing, and has settled in well, though he spent much of his free time working in the Infirmary, and always flew the first shift in Threadfall so that he could spend the second with the Healers if needed. He began training as a dragonhealer on 25-12-19, though it took him a while to make the break with his old Craft. Sadly, his Impression has brought about a breach with his family at South Telgar, but he's not really talking about that. He qualified as a dragonhealer in month 4 of turn 22, and he's now studying hard in order to specialise. In recent turns, he's become close to R'khan.
