Description

Topiltzin has the tanned skin, hawklike nose, and black hair of the rest of the Tlatoani, but it's his cheerful brown eyes that bring in dissonance and might leave an observer wondering is-he-or-isn't-he. Standing tall at six-foot-two, his broad shoulders and slender build provide an admirable frame for his well-tailored clothing. His beard is always trim and neatly maintained, and suits him very well — despite rumors he might be hiding a weak jaw. His hands are elegant; a lucky break, considering how often he talks with them. They are accented (and accentuated) by the silver rings he wears — two on the left, one on the right.

He is wearing a long-sleeved black shirt with a collar and buttons at the neck and cuffs, embroidered with a riotous — yet oddly elegant — explosion of color along the yoke. His long, loose linen trousers are similarly riotous in color, and fortunately are the same colors, and therefore don't clash, any more than his black leather boots do. Over everything else, he wears a relatively-muted full-length robe in a bright — but somewhat pale — sky blue.

Common Knowledge

  • Lived at Igen until age thirteen, when he apprenticed to the Vintnerhall. Returned with his long-established Journeyman's knot and a son in tow to take over the Dustbowl Cantina.
  • Is a brewer with something of a hobby for Exciting New Beers, so the Dustbowl had a new brewery running in the back within hours of his taking over as owner (clearly ordered ahead of time, possibly a condition of his return). He now takes suggestions.
  • Invented the 'spirit of cactus' drink, known as Tlatoani Agave, and is now working with Ramita on improvements.

History

The oldest son of patriarch Tizoc's next-in-age sister, Topiltzin expected he might be an heir to great, or at least exciting, things. He had the typical wealthy bazaar brat's education up until age thirteen, which was a blend of spending time in the shops and out mixing with people and getting into just as much trouble as he was able to get away with.

Shortly after his thirteenth turnday his family brokered a deal that involved sending Topiltzin to the Vintner Hall to formally apprentice. He continues to have no idea what else was involved in this dealing, but he enjoyed his years at the Hall; making journeyman at 21, he shortly after married, reproduced and has since divorced.

After the destruction and soft reopening of the Dustbowl, his family recalled him to Igen to take over the cantina … which may or may not have been their plan for him and his skill all along. He has been there since, through the thick of it all. The Dustbowl is always an old, reliable standard … and so is its proprietor.
