Description
There's a youthfulness about this rider that has lingered into his thirties. Maybe it is in the thick fall of dark blonde hair that sweeps back in a soft wave from his square forehead, or the generous fullness of lips, or perhaps it's etched in place by the deep dimple on his left cheek which even a solid growth of beard can't obscure. His eyes are a clear grey green beneath short brows that match the strong angularity of the rest of his features. An air of scruffy cynicism helps balance out what otherwise might be found delicate in a long neck and lean muscled frame of about six feet.

There was a desert wind blowing that night. It was one of those hot dry Santa Ana's that come down through the mountain passes and curl your hair and make your nerves jump and your skin itch. On nights like that every booze party ends in a fight. Meek little wives feel the edge of the carving knife and study their husbands' necks. Anything can happen. You can even get a full glass of beer at a cocktail lounge.

Common Knowledge
- Transferred to Igen Weyr in the first quarter of Turn 3 of the Pass. He was tapped by then-Weyrsecond F'dan to Whirlwind near the start of the spate of bad Threadfalls that would ultimately take Weyrleader W'rin's life.
- Blue might be a bit of an odd fit for Whirlwind, but otherwise V'dean doesn't stand out much from the pack that's dominated by nowtimer men. Drinking nights, Rosie's… the one testosterone-laden past time he doesn't seem inclined towards is the occasional sparring that his hotter tempered wingmates can be fond of.
- Ekerth was laid up for about two turns with a bad wing injury shortly after the start of the Pass, the evidence found in thick scars across his sails. Despite this, they've done a dutiful job of recovering to full-Fall length shape. Never exceptionally talented, they're the kind of solid wingpair that tends to go unnoticed for either heroics or screw-ups. They get the job done, largely through a heavy dependence on between.
- V’dean was one of the people injured by the stabby rampage of Master Thornton at Southern Barrier Hold, attacked alongside Journeyman Healer Neve in the mining wing. She was assigned to Igen Weyr at the start of Turn 3… but you'd be hard pressed to find him near the infirmary since then, much less see them associating socially.

History
This blue pair transferred to Southern Weyr a little less than a turn and a half before the Pass. They were placed in the Weyrleader's wing where V'dean applied himself well enough to Ocelot’s intensive drill schedule despite his talented approximation of being a shiftless layabout. Present at Keroon, Ekerth came away from the surprise Fall with somewhat extensive but superficial injury that had them on restricted activity for only about a seven’s time.
When the first official turn of the Pass came, they were not so lucky — Ekerth suffered major wing injury that grounded him out of the fighting wings and put them on an extended and precarious path to recovery. As they worked on increasing flight stamina through courier duty, their assignments brought him in range of the mysterious killer at Southern Barrier Hold. Not long after his and journeyman Neve’s encounter with the knife-wielding maniac, V’dean transferred to the place that was just about as far from frozen wastelands as he could get: Igen.
Once at the desert Weyr, he fell in with then-Weyrsecond and fellow nowtimer F'dan. His first turn saw V'dean existing somewhat on edge as the newly duty-returned bluepair came up to speed with the demands of topflight Whirlwind. Since then he's settled into the relatively unobtrusive routine of another wingrider amongst the fighting ranks of hundreds.
