R'em's Method Behind the Madness Green Sajkiath

Ephrem! You came to protect your sister, and to keep her safe upon sands. Little would you know that it was you who needed more protection. For Sajkiath has chosen you above all the world, and she will spend the rest of her life trying to change you in her endless experiments. We are overjoyed to steal you from the bazaar, and cast you into the experiments which Sajkiath performs.

Philosoraptor Egg

Twisting turning twining twirling are bright colors of neon orange and electric blue that stretch over the curvature of a bumpy surface. Smallish in size, yet packed with philosophical pizzazz, the energy crackles around this left-of-center ovoid. It sits, it thinks. It thinks some more. Which came first, the dragon or the egg? Why do we bake cookies and cook bacon? If practice makes perfect and no one's perfect, why practice? If it's called 'common sense', why is it so rare? So many questions, so little time.

Hatching Message

Philosoraptor Egg has this whole hatching thing all planed out. First, a long crack from top to bottom. Then quarters going the other directions, forming almost perfect right angles. Then from within a tap at each of those corners echos out, seeking to find the weakness that will send shards of egg down upon the sands. It takes three before the weakness is found, and a delicate green talon forces its way out for a moment until it pulls back in. Continuing the work the egg slowly falls to pieces as a green dragonet steps out onto the sands.

Dragonet Desc

Translucent green glides o'er striated hide, while foxfire's glow gleams along slender sides. It boils o'er forest dark gangly spars, then rolls swiftly across emerald's deep speckled 'sails. It roils tumbling and bumping down ridges and back, dispersing at last in a myrtle forked tail. Youth's spindly long legs and tapering paws make promises of a grace soon to come. Her haunches are spare, speckled shoulders petite, scant features for the interim — but in the chest of sunbathed lime and stretching up past ridges sleek, the herald of her destined prime lends early poise to trim physique. Her head is thin with green so bright she almost seems to glow, then deepens toward viridian through the length of headknobs' shadow.

Public Impression Pose

Method Behind the Madness Green Dragonet is struck with her own genius, taking time to rake out random lines but truly this is a theorem for success! She's got a hypothesis she's certain will put her on the path to her greatest discovery of all time. In a frenzy of scrambling legs, she almost trips over herself in the mad rush of excitement. Worry not though, for in this moment of insanity there's revelation and wonder as she selects from among the crowd, her grandest experiment, her chose lab partner for life. Collected, she bugles in an outcry congratulating her own smart decision making as she forges the strongest bond of all: that of Impression, for now you are hers, Ephrem.

Private Impression Message

Artificial lights flicker, harsher than those of glows, one after another along a dark hallway. A whisper of something bubbling draws you forwards, your boots echoing along a metal floor. « R'em, hurry up. » The voice which joins the whisper of liquid names you, and calls you forward more quickly than before. You come to a doorway and it whooshes open and a billow of smoke billows out, the acrid smell causing you to cough until it dispels. « Right right, I'm Sajkiath. Now, we have work to do, something about a chemical reaction in my stomach. Come. » The door closes smartly behind you, the click as it latches locked seeming to echo with a certain finality.

Clutch Theme Inspiration/Dragonet Tie-In

The clutch theme this time ended up being Tropes, and you made it pretty easy on us with your elements of the Mad Scientist. The only problem with mad scientists though? They tend to be evil. After all, even 'Prof' Jonathan Phaedrus eventually went bad. But dragons just aren't inherently evil. So we kept looking and stumbled across two of the most perfect work arounds to this whole evil business.

2.jpg

The first was the Absent Minded Professor. This trope depicts and insanely intelligent person who always manages to pull a miracle for the heroes out of no-where to save the day, but is so careless of his personal self it's sometimes hard to even believe that he manages to make it through a day without burning his hair off or causing some other catastrophe.

"Science does not have a moral dimension. It is like a knife.
If you give it to a surgeon or a murderer, each will use it differently."
~Wernher von Braun

The second trope was even more perfect, that of the Reluctant Mad Scientist. See, this mad scientist has a reason why they're mad. Sometimes it's personal tragedy that has driven this person to work for the bad guys. Other times it seems like there is simply a lack of options available. At times this particular trope doesn't really care who they work for, because in the end it's the act of creation that makes everything worthwhile. The ends aren't really so important. If someone misuses their creations, it's not their business.

3.jpg

We couldn't really resist throwing in some of your first idea, too, though most of our quotes ended up from being from the first book in the series rather than the last. None of us may be at the level of Brandon Sanderson, but we freely stole different elements of the personalities of his main character David to help make your little green even more dynamic.

Description Inspiration

4.jpg

Sajkiath might start out all gangly legs and tail, but rest assured, behind that brain of hers is a body that will someday (but maybe not quite yet) be Threadfall Certified. Even as a skinny young dragonet, however, she will stand out among the other greens. She has a natural glow that, while nothing on that glow to come a couple Turns down the road, just naturally draws one's eyes straight to her. It's not metallic sort of shiny, but quite nearly holographic. There are so many stripes and striations embedded in her vibrant hide that, depending on the angle or the quality of light, you might discover new patterns, shapes and shades on a daily basis.

5.jpg

When Sajkiath turned out to be a bit on the mad scientist side of things, foxfire kept coming to mind. There's nothing particularly mad about it, but it is pretty cool. It's a fungus that grows inside old trees and makes them grow. There are stories out of ancient Greece and the like where old, dead olive orchards would glow at night, and Aristotle described it as a light that was cool to the touch. To me, that just really seemed to suit this green of yours.

6.jpg

The colours in her description tend to vacillate from bright to dark, which again seemed rather fitting for a mad scientist, and the long, lean gangly bit? I just couldn't help it, all I kept thinking of was Bill Nye, the Science Guy. Waaaaay more brain than brawn, but it's all good. It's the way it should be, right? Just enough muscle to get her through her Threadfall shifts, with a whole lot of (eventual) grace to keep her away from said falling Thread.

7.jpg

A lot of Sajkiath's striations were also inspired by the kind of science that surrounds our everyday lives at this point. Have you ever checked out your computer's circuit board, or peeked next to the SIM card of your phone? All those little lines and rivulets serve a purpose, they go places, carry things at insane speeds, just like that mind of hers. Speaking of, her headknobs are a little on the long side right now, but that's not something she's going to grow into. After all, those are the way those dragons manage their nifty mindscapes, and she just has so much to transmit!

8.jpg

Finally, a quick note on the desc itself. When you said you liked poetic, my brain got totally stuck. It wanted rhythm and rhyming, which isn't how I normally write, but… it sure tried. I also couldn't get past the idea that the gangly little dragonet wouldn't be gangly forever, so there's also an older version of the description, here:

Translucent green glides o'er striated hide, while foxfire's glow gleams along slender sides. It boils o'er forest dark gangly spars, then rolls swiftly across emerald's deep speckled 'sails. It roils tumbling and bumping down ridges and back, dispersing at last in a myrtle forked tail. Lean dancer's legs and long dexterous paws lend toward graceful and agile moves and, with such efficiency of wing and limb, the capacity to improve in every flex of chest of sunbathed lime or stretch of banded neck, where filaments of clover frame this grand experiment. Her head is thin with green so bright she almost seems to glow, then deepens toward viridian through the length of headknobs' shadow.

Name Inspiration

We played around with Egyptian styles and Aztekian origins, but nothing really jumped out at us for what we envisioned for this little lady. We searched and searched when finally, it hit us like a ton of bricks! Saskia. The name is Germanic in origin and translates into “protector of mankind.” And since we wanted to add a little panache and originality, we exchanged ‘Sas’ for ‘Saj’ and VOILA! Sajkiath!

Which, oh by the way, can add plenty of variations in pronunciation! Check it out:

Diem pronounces her name as, "SAW-kee-yath."
N'tael pronounces it, "Sah- jah-key-ayth."
G'deon says, "SAHJ-kee-ath."

Of course YOU, dear R’em, pronounce her name however you like to say it!

Mindvoice

9.jpg

It's sound which hits you first, here in the depths of Sajkiath's mind. The sound of liquids bubbling, all at different speeds. It's a quiet noise, but it anchors you here, and gives you direction.

Lights flicker on, bright and almost blinding in their artificiality, leading the way forward and fading away behind with mechanical regularity. Scents of antiseptic cleansers reach upwards to bite at your nose. Dust, disorder, and disarray have no place here.

Color comes next, pinks, blues, greens, reds, each with a neon tinge to them, issuing forth from the bubbling which you hear. What the liquids bubbling are is a mystery for you to spend the rest of your life with Sajkiath figuring out, but be wary. It may seem like her mind is safe enough, but it carries pitfalls which would entrap even as they discover.

Bubbling brightly, the sound echos to you through the darkness. « Soon R'em, just be patient. Soon. » It's almost ready to bubble over, this test tube full of pink liquid.

Sajkiath's mind is one of endless discovery. Here is where she puts her ideas to the test, and sees what will work and which must be shelved. There is no concept of 'impossible', here, only that which has not been tried, tested, and proven or disproven. Sajkiath's mind if one of concrete reality, settled within an artificial shell that keeps all variables out except those which can be controlled and accounted for.

10.jpg

Sunlight is firmly banished from this place, and artificial lighting rules. The problem with that artificiality? For each section of metal flooring which it illuminates, another section is cast into utmost darkness. This dichotomy between light and darkness parallels the thin line which Sajkiath watches, where one side is complete rational sanity, and the other is a pit of irrational madness.

It shatters, the light, as sparks cascade down from the ceiling and cast the laboratory into complete darkness. « Do come again Aionedyth. I'm not sure I quite heard you correctly. » Danger bites on the edges of darkness, nipping closer as the hiss of chemicals grows more intense.

Her laughter is just that, the low cackle of the mad scientist, one who has just discovered something which was unknown before. It's an uncomfortable sound, but not evil. Instead it forces itself into the mind, and stays there long beyond when the humor has passed, for that laughter itself has built something which is left behind.

11.jpg

The purpose of this place is discovery which leads to eventual creation. All matter is strung together by bonds which when broken only lead to the most disastrous of results. Her laughter, or even her sorrow, creates connections the likes of which the world may never have seen quite the like before. Straight, curved, it doesn't matter. These bonds are the building blocks of the world.

All around sounds compete for supremacy. There is the sound of chemicals mixing, bring with them explosions, or perhaps just the hiss of dissolving solids into insubstantial liquids.

12.jpg

Some of these reactions within her mind are understated, and can almost pass by without your attention. These are subtle emotions of satisfaction, when things just go right. They create colors which the eye is hard pressed to put a name to, and smells which buoy the mind and send the soul soaring. Sometimes they're the light fragrances of perfume, scented just lightly like flowers. They tickle the nose but never overpower.

13.jpg

Other times… WATCH OUT R'em. Sometimes the otherwise placid calm of Sajkiath's mind seems to quite frankly explode. When just the right chemicals mix light so bright that it leaves spots behind flairs up, and liquid hot shards of glass spin outwards to embed themselves into the walls of her laboratory. There they embed, winking until the reaction is done and the lights without gain power again.

Regret is a completely different reaction, one writ in a less showy reaction. Rather then sparks or colors, regret is simply a build up of smoke that bubbles over and spills across the workspace of her mind. It covers all with a dark fog, making any other progression within her mind almost impossible to create. You'll have to find a way to vent out this smoke before it smothers her (and possibly even those who surround her) in a thick white smoke that prevents even the smallest of breaths.

Almost unnoticed the beaker sits, settled within a corner of the laboratory. A lone purple drop hangs timelessly above, before it separates, and drops below. « They… did not pick us. » It begins to smoke, thin tendrils reaching up over the side hungrily. The reaction continues, building, growing, spreading. Soon there is nothing to be seen here but the white smoke, seeking to take away breath and hide the shame within. « I… don't know what to do.»

As a creator, sometimes Sajkiath gets so excited about her thoughts, that she forgets that anyone is there at all.

14.jpg

It appears then, this piece of glass set into the wall. Her findings get scribbled down here, and sometimes there is little rhyme or reason (well, to the outside observer) for what gets written here. Chemical formulas, of course, and bonds to be created make up part of it. But some of it is just her thoughts as they occur, writ down so that perhaps she will have a better chance of remembering it later. Off in some of those corners though, you'll find little things that remind you that Sajkiath is so much more than the laboratory within. There her own little doodles are found, with hints of unicorns and rainbows that she will quickly erase in embarrassment if someone should catch her in these idle moments.

Not a diagram here, this marking in black upon glass. Instead it is a little egg, like one of those sitting upon the sands. When she realizes you watching it, quickly it is scribbled over, « Nothing to see there. What was it you asked again? »

Physicalities

From the minute Sajkiath breaks shell, you’ll notice one very prominent feature: she is skinny. All legs, all wings, all tail, you’ll have to help her maneuver about for the first few weeks of her life — so that she doesn't trip and stumble over her own limbs! Petite like a tiny newborn foal, what Sajkiath lacks in bulk she will make up for with speed and agility as she grows older and becomes more in control of her movement.

15.jpg

Those long legs of hers will carry her around the training grounds at top speed and yes she will take many a digger! She will faceplant into the sand and get right back up without missing a beat. Those spindly legs of hers won’t keep her down, R’em. Oh no, no. Sajkiath’s snout is also long, pointed, and slightly hooked at the end like her mother’s patrician muzzle. Her tail is much like a feline’s in that it, too, is long and able to curl around dainty paws with sharpened claws.

16.jpg

Grace, thy name is not Sajkiath.

She’ll have some trouble fitting into places when she’s young, simply because she doesn’t know how to judge her lanky body. When she tries to sleep, she might accidentally jab an elbow or knee into herself (or you!) as she attempts to fold up into a neat little ball. Sajkiath will discover that she must sleep with her sleek beak angled and tucked underneath a folded wing so that she doesn’t poke herself or anyone else in close range. Give her plenty of room to move, R’em! If she does manage to thwack you with her tail or a wing, don’t get too upset. Because, really, can you stay mad at someone sooooo daaaaang cute?

Much like her mother, Sajkiath will have a shimmery, iridescent hide right from the beginning. Zsaviranth is Pern’s citrine queen, therefore Sajkiath is the crystalline green! Her hide is smooth and will need to be oiled a lot throughout her adolescence and even periodically in her adult life if you wish to keep her hide sparkling, R’em. And why wouldn’t you? Her coloring has a wide range of light colored aventurine to dark flecks of moldavite that are only enhanced whenever she is in Rukbat’s warm rays — which is frequent during Igen’s summer months!

17.jpg

18.jpg

She will be glorious as an adult. Slender and well proportioned from the hook of her snout to the tip of tail, she will be graceful once she transitions out of that awkward gangly stage of her youth. Her legs will still be long and her wings even longer. They will look frail and thin to many, but you will know to never, ever underestimate their power, R’em. They are strong and durable, perfect for performing aerial tricks and impressing those bronzes, browns, and blues with their glimmering colors.

19.jpg

Personality

R'em, Sajkiath does not just hatch. She emerges, and from the first second the laboratory of her mind reaches out to latch onto yours you'll come to realize that you have signed into one living experiment after another.

“Sometimes, son," my father said, prying my fingers free, "you have to help the heroes along.”
~ Brandon Sanderson, Steelheart

Where some of her clutch makes have a firm sense of reality, Sajkiath lives in a world just a little bit separated from the rest. See, at her very core, Sajkaith is an idealist. She's born with the idea that people in the world are good, the world rewards the good, and that if you work hard enough, the good in all things will come through and rule the day. It puts a bit of a rosy outlook on just about everything she does, because there's no such thing as 'evil'.

She believes in heroes, and in the ability of people (and dragons, of course) to become heroes. Everyone she meets is just a hero who hasn't quite proven themselves. Especially her clutchmates. When it comes to being the cheerleader of the group, Sajkiath has it in the bag. And the older, bigger, obviously Thread scored dragons? Sajkiath is just one step short from worshiping the very ground they walk on (and air they fly in.) The more experienced the dragon, the more she'll try to follow in their every footsteps. Thankfully, she doesn't fixate upon just one dragon at a time. Instead she'll jump from one awesome role model to another and then on again.

A sudden bark of explosion rocks the laboratory as nitrous oxide and carbon disulfide mix. Fog fills the area until fans kick in to pull it swiftly out of the way. « Did you see how he did that?! That was AWESOME. Hey hey! Could you do that again? Please, I think I can copy if it if I see it just one more time, PLEASE. »

I have a smoke grenade in my room," I said.
"What?" Megan asked. "How?"
"I grew up working at a munitions plant," I said. "We mostly made rifles and handguns, but we worked with other factories. I got to pick up the occasional goody from the QC reject pile."
"A smoke grenade is a goody?" Cody asked.
I frowned. What did he mean? Of course it was. Who wouldn't want a smoke grenade when offered one?
~ Brandon Sanderson, Steelheart

That's something else pretty cool about your Sajkiath, how very excited she gets over what seems like the most mundane objects and actions. Her weyrlinghood is filled with abrupt discoveries that are just the coolest thing ever. (Until the next coolest thing ever.) She'll keep you on your toes as she bounces from one amazing thing to another, each with the same level of enthusiasm and energy that she brought to the last.

The older Sajkiath gets the more steady she'll become. There'll be a lot less bouncing from one awesome idea to another, and more finding something truly awesome, and sticking it out until the end. You'll see the first hints of this when she begins to fly. She really wants to do it well, and she'll shove anything else out of the way until she solves that particular problem.

Now, there are little things that just… aren't quite on her radar. Names, turndates, appointments - all of these things are apt to get written down in some corner of her mind, covered up, and then completely forgotten about. Unless you're on top of the scheduling thing, it's likely that the two of you will miss some events you had originally planned on attending.

"Didn't we have something later tonight?"

Distracted clicks of beakers answers, « huh? » before a single drop of a liquid is added to each of the blue test tubes placed upon the table. « I don't think so. Hey do you think… »

But that's just the small stuff. When it comes to the BIG stuff, Sajkiath has one of the better dragon memories out there. Her mind is like a steel trap when it comes to wing formations, and how different dragons work together. She's concerned about the science between people, dragons, and the weyr at large. She knows exactly who works well with whom, and who really needs to be kept apart less they send sparks flying into the atmosphere.

As a weyrling Sajkiath is much too concerned about all the new experiences to really get into much conflict herself. But as she and the others develop the full roundness she'll come to find others that she just can't stand. Normally her reaction will be to just straight up ignore them. Sometimes though…

Never throw the first punch. If you have to throw the second, try to make sure they don't get up for a third.
~ Brandon Sanderson, Steelheart

What arguments that she does involve herself in she is going to END. This extends to you also. If you can't stay out of a fight, you sure as heck had better be ready to finish it. While she won't push you mercilessly to get a body able to do the second-punch take out, she will highly encourage you exercise those upper arms of yours. It's better to end a fight before it begins but… y'know, that's just not always possible.

20.jpg

Sajkiath is also really into gadgets. Simple, complex, it doesn't really matter. If it has moving parts Sajkiath really wants to know how it works. She'll badger you to act as her hands and look more closely at things that simply aren't possible with her draconic form. Sadly, this does have one serious downside. Since she isn't really on the same sight-level as you, Sajkiath has some problems estimating small distances. Hopefully you have a better spatial sense than her, or you might just get caught with your hands quite literally in the cookie jar. (In her defense, the cookie jar had a really cool opening and closing mechanism and it wasn't the cookies you were after.)

21.jpg

How about games R'em, do you like them? Hopefully you do, because as Sajkiath grows she's going to develop a keen interest in one particular game. Chess. Smart people totally play chess, and this is something your green picks up on super quick. It really does fit her though, it requires strategy, and there's as much in there about reading another person as there is in the actual movement of the pieces. You'll find a new depth to her mind when she plays this game (usually through you) as you realize how far ahead of a single event Sajkiath is able to plan.

Sajkiath enjoys planning, and creating new things. It probably wouldn't be too surprising if she rises the two of you into rank with her sheer tendency to tweak and want to make things better. She's also not at all proprietary about her ideas. If she finds a new wing formation that works even a little bit better than what already exists, she's going to share it far and wide. Don't be surprised if she easily chats up willing foreigners with her ideas. They're made to be used right? Of course, this is probably going to be not-so-awesome if the two of you end up in any competitions (like the T-Tourney, or weyr games) because she's pretty terrible at keeping her strategy to herself.

The gentle bubble of chemicals fills the background, as black marker is lifted to glass surface. Swiftly and without pause marks begin to appear, « Here, first we are going to… »

Something else that might slide the two of you towards a leadership role at some point is Sajkiath's keen eye towards morale. Since she wants her wings to work at peak efficiency, she has to keep an eye on the emotional levels. When they dip too low, she takes it upon herself to do something about it. Sadly though, her jokes are pretty much terrible when she's actually trying to make them. Instead, she's funniest when she really isn't trying.

Take metaphors for example. She's pretty much sucks at them. Normal people use normal metaphors to describe things snow white, but Sajkiath is more… well…

They looked so dangerous, like alligators. Really fast alligators wearing black. Ninja alligators.

He was right. I was letting myself get distracted, like a rabbit doing math problems instead of looking for foxes.

The sun peeked over the horizon like the head of a giant radioactive manatee.

To a drone I’d have a tiny heat signature, like a squirrel or something. A secretly very, very deadly squirrel.
Assorted quotes, Brandon Sanderson

Yeah. So be prepared to try to puzzle though some of her comparisons and asking more than a few times what the heck she actually means.

Now, it's not to say that Sajkiath is all good-all the time. She's very ends-justify-the-means. So she's down with bending, and sometimes straight up breaking the rules when she feels that her objective is worth it. This will land the two of you in hot water if you can't convince her to pull back a little, and go through the proper channels to get things done.

Under that science exertior, Sajkiath really does have the heart, and at her core she wants to be accepted and part of a valued them. Yes, she will go off on her own and do her THING if needed, but really, a team is better. But not just any team. She wants to be a part of a team where she feels valued and loved. If you run into a wingleader that doesn't see her value she's going to be more inclined to ignore him and completely and do her own thing.

"Sajkiath, The wingleader said…"

A hiss of steam cuts you off, as flicks of bright light slice like diamonds through purest steel. « He doesn't care about us - about what we can bring. Well, screw him. We don't need him anyway. »

She can get super sulky when she gets into those moods honestly, and she doesn't forget slights to herself or to you. Some of your now-time ideas are really going to clash with her here. As far as Sajkiath is concerned it doesn't matter who someone is, all that matters is what they do. If you happen to spread some of that now-time attitude at her be prepared for a full on fit on anger that is directed at you until she can convince you that you are wrong and she is right.

Some of these traits she'll start showing when she is young. Others will develop as the two of you age and really come to be a team, rather than two individuals bound together. With all of her growing and experimentation she's constantly rebuilding herself. What she is good at now, she will be better at later. What she is no good at now, she will improve upon in the future.

Thread

Thread. Thread is messy. Thread is a bit of chaos theory tossed into a world that Sajkiath knows is governed by rules and logic. Thread just does. Not. Make. Sense.

There is no room in this word for the nonsensical, so really, there's only one solution to the solution.

Burn. That. Sucker. To. The. Ground.

22.jpg

Seriously. Sajkiath doesn't really care how the burning happens. Thread just has to go. She's totally cool if it goes down because of the fires of her larger brown and bronze brothers. She doesn't mind if it is made into cinders by quick little blues and greens. In fact, she doesn't have any problem with those goldriders and their funky (we'll get to these in a second) flaming tubes. This flexibility means that when it comes time to pick a wing to join, chances are that Sajkiath is going to be able to fit herself in pretty much anywhere, and making a showing for herself.

Now. About those funky flaming tubes. Sajkiath kinda is in love with them. And we mean, love at first sight.

A burst of color breaks bursts forth, covering one wall in a vibrant purple. « R'em. » Her voice is urgent, insistent, you will pay attention right now thank you very much. « What. Is. That. » She's already scribbling it down on her glass wall, trying to figure out just the right amount of this and that would be needed to create fire. « I want one. No. I NEED ONE. Right now. »

It's highly unusual for a greenrider to bring a flamethrower into battle, but hey, Sajkiath likes them! Who knows, maybe some stupid weyrling won't be Johnny on the spot with your firestone and you'll need to put it to use. Anything is possible!

Her fighting style is highly planned out. She's into the mathematics that go into a fight, and she's constantly checking herself to make sure that everything is within normal parameters. While others may get heated during thread Sajkiath keeps a cool (well, coolish. There are some seriously awesome explosions going on within her mind during threadfall) head throughout. She knows exactly how much flame to expend to eat up that clump of thread. She knows when to not bother to go after a piece that's just going to get her hurt.

Something that really pisses her off though, is a weakness she simply can't do anything about. As a green, she just doesn't have the stamina to be able to make it through a full threadfall. She's so eager to get out there that she'll try to push herself beyond what she really can do, reworking the mathematics to always give herself just a 'few more minutes'. You're going to have to be the adult in these situations, and pull her back to the weyr. After she's going to be sulky, and probably not be the greatest lifemate to be around for a while as she retreats from your mind to 'plan' (really, she's scratching out here discontent onto that glass, it's erasable, right?) until something else can turn her attention away and onto something new and different.

Flights

Oh, dearest R'em. Flights. You really can't be a greenrider without at some point coming forcefully face to face with the simple fact that your Sajkiath is very much a female.

23.jpg

One tiny little problem though, see, she doesn't always realize that she's female. It's really not something that crosses her mind as important in the long run. After all, as a regular course, she can pretty much do whatever almost any other dragon could do. Okay, so maybe she can't last a full fall but really, that's just physics at work. Plenty of blues have exactly the same problem.

But back to that whole not-realizing-she-is-female thing. This usually wouldn't be a problem! But with being female she's going to end up flying at some point. Unlike some of the others who put their riders through a period of proddyness, Sajkiath just isn't like that. She is so concerned about other things that her own biology goes a little bit to the wayside.

What we're trying to say, in short, is that there is almost zero warning on Sajkiath's part when she's going to go up. She's not going to get all cuddly and warm with the males. She's not going to take on some extra special glowy aura. She's not going to make you get all hot and bothered. Nope. Just one hour she'll be talking about something new she's learned, and the next she'll be leading the males of the weyr in a dizzing race across the sky.

« As I was saying, when you m…» A change, suddenly, in the background as every light in the laboratory turns on, and there's a flutter of white lab coat being discarded to one side. « Catch me if you can suckers! »

Just, bam. Up. Away.

Now. Just because Sajkaith doesn't realize that she's about to get her sexyness on, doesn't mean that you won't eventually come to realize what is going to happen before it happens. See, she's regular. Every four months on the dot from the moment she is one and half turns old. Three flights a year. It's not quite regular down to the hour, but you'll at least get about a three day window to keep the two of you near the weyr and those pesky dragons who are going to want to chase.

Some of the more observant dragons, perhaps even Xyphth will pick up on her regularity, and try to do some pre-wooing to improve their chances during the actual flight itself. These attempts at flirtation fall on completely flat ears though, because she's completely confused at their overturns.

The pen on the glass wall slows, then pauses, hovering just over an equation somehow gone horribly wrong. « Why… did you just drop a wherry carcass on my ledge? R'em, did that make any sense to you? »

" Whoa. Not too stiff," Cody said. "Secure, strong, but calm. Like you're caressing a beautiful woman, remember?"
That made me think of Megan.
I lost control, and a green wave of smoky energy burst from my hand and flew out in front of me. It missed the pipe completely, but vaporized the metal leg of the chair it sat on. Dust showered down and the chair went lopsided, dumping the pipe to the floor with a clang.
"Sparks," Cody said. "Remind me to never let you caress me, lad."

She, uh, kinda sucks at the whole flying-sex thing. It just isn't something that feels comfortable for her, and she is not fond of it even when her nature takes over and makes sure that the thing happens. Her poor mates are going to find themselves a bit battered at the end. She doesn't mean to scratch them so badly as they cling together and plumet. She doesn't mean to wrap necks so tightly that the muscles underneath are left sore and achy. Really. She might even apologize for it after she's gotten the heck away from her partner asap!

Because she will, get away. While she's not anti-social, Sajkiath just isn't a cuddly kind of dragon. Any male that tries to cozy up with her afterwards is in for a seriously sad ending, because your green simply isn't having any of it. Sex done, Sajkaith is gone. Now, unlike some others she won't try to pull you away from your after. She's quite content to stay away from pretty much everyone until she's herself completely again.

R'em, your Sajkiath is quirky, fun, and a little bit on the edge of sanity. All of the inspiration above are our suggestions, but we turn her over to you now excited to see where //you take her. We hope your experiments with your green lifemate produce just as many explosions as her mind is apt to.
