evka, Bonifas

Reveka has a question for Bonifas, and things turn out happier than expected.

WAAAAYYYYY BACKSCENED. Happens almost directly after Gossip and Tea

-- On Pern --
It is 11:13 AM where you are.
It is midmorning of the twenty-eighth day of the ninth month of the eleventh turn of the 12th pass.
In Igen:
It is the twenty-eighth day of Autumn and 89 degrees. The small dark cloud has grown rapidly over night, covering the blue sky. It blows a furious rush of stirring wind. In a moment, the daylight is gone as visibility plummets. The clouds of stinging sand mercilessly flog all living things as the air itself turns against you. Every living thing chokes on sand and dust before escaping inside.
In Southern:
It is the twenty-eighth day of Spring and 80 degrees. It is sunny and bright. White fluffy clouds drift lazily across the china blue sky.
In Southern Mountains:
It is the twenty-eighth day of Spring and 12 degrees. It's really damn cold out.

“So, I was in the Tea House the other day…”

Igen Caravan Grounds, Zingari encampment

Deep grooves in the hard packed earth criss-cross a large patch of denuded ground, bearing mute testament to the caravans that frequent this area. Despite the midden holes set back a ways from the main center of traffic, the air is sweet, redolent with the sagebrush that forms a loose perimeter around the flattened expanse. In what is as close to its center as the vague boundaries suggest, a stone ringed fire pit has been dug and surrounded with the odd log or two, ash overflowing from its darkly blackened core.

It’s mid-morning, and having already taken an early lunch, Reveka finds herself sitting outside her family’s wagon, fanning herself against the heat. It’s not overly hot, but she’s just come from lunch and practice and she’s a bit overworked at the moment. Her eyes scan the grounds and watch people as they work, wondering if Bon had got her message. Ever since her little journey into the Tea House, she’s had a question burning in mind, and though neither of them can afford anything too serious currently, she has to ask it. While she waits, she watches her growing firelizard fair play in the sand, tackling each other in mock battle.

Lunch may be Bonifas’s favorite time of the day. Or dinner. Let’s face it, the boy is always hungry. But he did get Reveka’s message and curiosity over the contents had him hurrying through the meal so he could actually have more free time to go and seek out the girl. It doesn’t take too long for him to find her, considering the family’s wagon is one of the first places to check. His own firelizards will join into the battle games, although the older two hang back a bit to let the little ones have their fun. Bon doesn’t try to hide the smile on his face when he spots Rev and gives her a wave. “Hey! I got your letter.”

Reveka looks up and smiles when Bonifas greets her, laughing softly when his younger flits join in on the mock battles. “Great! How’ve you been? Busy I take it?” Reveka continues to fan herself, offering Bonifas a seat in one of the chairs outside the wagon. Baba, her green croons a greeting at Bon’s flits before pouncing on the lot of them, claws flying playfully.

“When am I not?” Bonifas shrugs as he takes the offered seat and stretches out. Knife work lessons that morning had left him a little bit sore, but nothing a good soak in the baths wouldn’t solve, which access to public baths was definitely an advantage for being back at the Weyr instead of on the road. Taalay, his brown, and Szczesny, the bronze, respond with to the pouncing with some wrestling of their own. It’s a rolling, tumbling ball of claws and wings, which somehow hasn’t ended up in disaster yet, which means perfect firelizard fun. “I’m sorry my schedule has been crazy. Whenever I think I find some time we could possibly go out for that ride, something always seems to come up.”

Reveka shakes her head. “Don’t worry about it, I know Javid and Morgaine keep you all pretty busy.” Reveka sends an easy smile towards Bonifas, a wink following. “So, I was in the Tea House the other day…” She begins, leading the conversation and wondering if she’ll get a reaction before Bon realises her end goal here. “I had an interesting conversation with a girl that works there.” She’s being coy and she knows it, but the game is fun to play.

There’s some visible relaxing on Bonifas’ part when it appears the reason for the letter wasn’t because their much delayed date, but the mention of the Tea Room has him tilting his head ever so slightly as the wheels start to turn. He’s sure it’s a hint to something, but what to is still a mystery. When it doesn’t appear like Reveka is going to drop any more breadcrumbs, he’ll go ahead and probe at it, “About?” Tone questioning, as if he doesn’t expect a direct answer.

Reveka flicks warm brown eyes up at Bonifas with a sweet smile on her lips. “Oh, this and that, and you.” A light giggle escapes Reveka as she playfully fans at Bon. “And lo’ and behold, during this stunning conversation, I come to find out that I am a thing, with someone, and that someone is you.” Reveka smiles and laughs, obviously more amused by this than anything. “If you wanted a girlfriend Bon,” She says, a light, teasing tone to her voice, “All you had to do was ask.” She winks at Bonifas, and leaves it at that. She’ll get to seriously asking him if he likes her back in just a moment, for now she wants to see what he has to say. Call it getting a feel for the situation before asking a potentially hurtful question.

Bonifas’s eyes narrow a little bit at the reveal that he was the topic of conversation, wheels turning in the boy’s head. Those wheels come to a sudden stop as he’s equally stunned to find out that apparently he is a thing with Reveka? That’s news to him as well, but he know has a pretty good idea who the girl that works there was. “You were talking with Xanthee, right? I think I know how she got that impression…” Because while he didn’t say it, he didn’t deny it.

“You would be correct in your assumptions sir.” Reveka smiles and winks with a light laugh. Reveka leans forward arms bracing on her knees. “Please do share how she might have got that impression. Not that I mind … but you should warn a girl before you start courting her.” She’s teasing, yet not.

In a strange turn of events, Bonifas actually finds himself starting to grow a bit red as he runs a hand along the back of his neck. “Well, you saw how she’s been, right?” At the welcome party. Xanthee is definitely not an expert at observing someone unnoticed. “Ran into her the bazaar again, got to talking and she ended up asking if we were together. I didn’t precisely lie…” He just didn’t tell the whole truth and may have phrased it in a way that probably would have given the girl that impression.

Reveka giggles. “I hadn't actually noticed…” And it's true, she hadn't. Reveka doesn't seem like she minds having been Bon's scapegoat, she actually looks pretty amused at the idea. “Well, next time you use me as a cover, make sure and tell me so I don't blow it!” She smiles and winks at Bonifas, unable to resist teasing him over the subject. “It did bring to mind a question, my encounter with Xanthee, what exactly are we to each other then?” The question is open to any answer, Reveka just wants to know where they stand.

And Bonifas does relax just a bit when it appears that Reveka isn’t offended by the whole not truth. And in fact, even is willing to go along with it! A small smile begins to creep back onto the boy’s face at the teasing although it doesn’t last long. The next question has him scratching at his head a bit. “We’re uhh… I don’t know.” It’s true. He doesn’t know. Whenever he tried to think about it, there would always be something that would come up and distract him. “What do you want us to be?”

Reveka shrugs, eyes casting downward as a flush stains her cheeks. “I don’t know either.” She giggles and lifts her eyes back to meet Bon’s. “I like the odd enigmatic friendship we have, a lot, but I wouldn’t necessarily mind being more than that either…” She smiles. “I know we’re both busy, and it doesn’t leave time for much, but…I like spending my free time with you, when we can…” Reveka tucks some of her hair behind her ears, and sits up, eyes wary and hopeful at the same time.

“I like spending time with you, when we have time,” Unfortunately for both Bonifas and Reveka, it seems the free time is all too rare, especially free time that coincides with the other’s schedule. There’s a pause there as he seems to struggle to find just the right words. His mouth moves, but each attempt is aborted before finally he shakes his head. “If you don’t mind, that I don’t have much time and that work is going to come first, I like this friendship we have. And we can be a little more than just friends?”

Reveka smiles at Bonifas, a happy look spreading across her features. “I’m busy too, I don’t mind, we find time for each other despite our schedules.” They still have a few adventures to tick off their list after all. “I’m perfectly fine with those conditions.” Reveka’s smile widens and she cocks her head to the side , inspecting Bon as her hair slips over hair shoulder.

At that response, a relieved smile finds its way onto Bonifas’s face. The boy wasn’t sure just how tense he had been waiting for her response until after she actually responded. “We’ll find time. And soon.” That much he sounds very sure of. “In fact… there should be a new schedule out for the couple sevens coming up any day now. Once I know that.” He nods. Once he knows that, then they can plan another of their adventures.

Reveka smiles, one that reaches her eyes and makes them dance. “That sounds great, let us hope they decide to give you guys a break, they work you pretty hard.” Reveka feels bad for the spylings sometimes, they get it rough during training. She looks forward to more adventures, now however, she’d like to dance. She hadn’t realised how much she’d actually wanted to try being something with Bon until he’d agreed to do so. Now she feels like walking on air.

“It’s not so bad..” As much as Bonifas might complain sometimes about constantly being busy, he likes being busy. If he had any large amount of free time, he wouldn’t know what to do with himself aside from arrange some of those camping trips he’s promised. And about this time is when a small group of other spylings pass by from one of the wagons in the direction of the next class, causing Bonifas to groan. “I didn’t realize how late it was. Gotta run.” But before he gets up, he’ll lean over to give Reveka a kiss before launching to his feet to sprint towards his peers. At least he won’t be the last one to Morgaine’s class this afternoon.

Reveka nods when Bonifas rises to meet his class, and rises with him. She isn’t exactly expecting the kiss and after it happens she stands there blushing, a hand raised to her lips as she watches Bon run to meet his classmates. Well, today has gone much better than expected. Smiling, she turns to the rest of her day and the rest of her chores, which seem like nothing compared to the cloud she floats on.
