Locum Cantibus et Lux (Kyara's Weyr)

The dominating feature of this curious cavern is the column in its midst - naturally formed and pocked with many small, flat-bottomed alcoves. Pillar candles fill many of these spaces, while others hold books or remain empty for firelizard use. Smooth, porous walls marbled in creamy sandstone hues make a rough square as tall as a man and half again.

The right wall jinks into a decisive angle to form a corner giving way to a smaller space - a composer's nook, where a small table and two stools sit atop a small blue rug. The surrounding stone shelves hold several glowbaskets and encased instruments. Separated from the rest of the weyr by deep sapphire hangings is a simple, full-sized bed sitting upon a forest green carpet. More shelves jut from the walls here, holding more candles, books, and small, carved wooden boxes containing personal treasures. A wooden chest sits against the wall to the right.

In the main space, a low table surrounded by sitting cushions rests upon another carpet - Igen-woven in local patterns and the Weyr's colors. A few comfortable chairs are present for visitors who don't wish to be so close to the ground. On the walls, small, thick quilts of deep green and mellow gold hang at regular intervals. The north wall bears a small, simple hearth, which Kyara keeps going almost constantly in the colder months. Light from both glows and candles mingle against the swirled rock as the subtle scent of candle wax fills the air, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere - a place of song and light.

While Kyara has kept track of her Turndays, she’s long expected nothing much of them, save for well-wishes from those close to her and perhaps a letter from her brother. That has always been enough for her. She’s looking forward to getting to spend the evening with R’xim this time around, though, so it’s a bit more exciting than it has been in past Turns…

…Except waking up for drills today is accompanied by a swimming head and a subtly churning stomach. With a groan, she screws her eyes shut again and lays there a moment, taking deep even breaths to try and calm the nausea. Being as generally healthy as she is, even hints of illness feel worse than they likely are, she reasons. But why in the world would she be sick right now, in the midst of summer?

Carefully, she opens her eyes, giving a few quick blinks to help her focus on the ceiling. When she’s satisfied things aren’t going to start spinning again, she lets Liareth’s mists in fully, feeling her lifemate’s concern prodding the edges of her mind. « You didn’t get too much sun, did you? »

The greenrider pauses for a moment in serious consideration, then lifts an arm, eying her skin. No burning there. She presses her fingers along her cheekbones and nose to feel for tenderness, also to no avail. » I don’t think so. «

« Did you eat something that disagreed with you? »

She gives a little shake of her head almost immediately…and regrets it, wincing and stopping herself. » I only had bread, cheese, and fruit. And a couple of meatrolls. « In other words, she’d eaten about as safely as she could the previous night. » Maybe I’m hungry… « Except food doesn’t appeal right now.

« Or perhaps, since you don’t really know, you should go talk to those who might. »

Ever practical. That’s Liareth.

Kyara groans and lets her arm drop back onto the bed. She doesn’t want to go to the Healers, but if she really is sick, she isn’t going to know what to do about it until she goes anyway, so she may as well. She gets up by degrees, eventually succeeding in getting dressed and presentable and going out to Liareth. The fresh air, warm though it already is, helps a bit, and she’s able to get the pretty green’s straps on without much trouble. However, despite how smooth Liareth’s descent is, it doesn’t stop the greenrider from voiding what little there is in her stomach into the sand after they’ve landed. She does her best to clean it up before trudging through the dragonhealer’s yard, where Liareth settles to wait, watching with amber-orange eyes as her rider disappears into the infirmary.

They ask her what her lifemate already has, plus a few more questions that give her a bit of a flush. Fortunately, an apprentice brings her some spicy tea to help settle her stomach in the meantime. She isn’t allowed to sit there and sip at it without interruption, however. The Healers poke and prod at her a bit, and while she worries that it might make her sick again, she manages not to be. All the while, a funny fluttering builds in her stomach, a giddy suspicion that makes her pulse speed up a hair. When they ask if she might be willing to let them examine her more closely, she consents, though her mind begins to race along with her heart. And when they’ve finished…

…Her suspicion is confirmed.

For Turns now, she’s feared this might not be able to happen. She’d lost the first she’d known about, after all, and perhaps unwittingly more. It’s something she’s tried not to think about. But she has always hoped. Now, it seems that holding on to that hope was the right thing.

She has so many people to talk to now. So many plans to make. But first, she has to explain what’s going to have to happen to her rather excited lifemate.

And then, before anyone else, R’xim.

She can’t remember having a more incredible Turnday in all her life!
