Living Caverns

Grand and spacious, the cavern curves high aloft in naturally-vaulted ceiling that soothes any sense of claustrophoba. Rich woods line the cavern floor, varnished and stained a rich mahogany, while round tables scatter about candlelit and intimate. The largest table lies southerly next the sideboard, long trestles that seem oriented to providing for the weyr's youngest. The rich blue of Azov can be seen from a distance in good weather, when the heavy stone doors covering the entrance are allowed to stand open.

Kodi is already out of all non-essential clothing by the time she makes it into the shade of the cavern, riding gear folded and tucked under an arm, over-shirt dangling from her free hand. It's a little early for dinner, but she's clearly hopeful there's something set out a little early for dinner, too, going by the look she gives the tables nearest the kitchen. Spotting a few likely offerings, she leaves her things at the end of one of the tables, then heads in that direction to investigate more closely. In the bowl, Risielth is freshly gleaming from a bath and oiling, not at all upset about the summer temperatures.

D'wane may have a more liberal understanding of non-essential clothing than most considering he's currently wearing shorts and sandals and that's about it. His shirt may be completely AWOL for the rest of summer. Don't tell K'vvan unless you want to hear yelling. The looming wingsecond is currently perusing the offerings for this early dinner. It seems like there's fish, fish and more fish like just about every day in Southern. He's currently got a plate with mostly fried fish pieces and some veggies. Whatever he's currently trying to decide on next, he's taking a while and seems to be oblivious to the fact there might be anybody in line behind him. As for Rocketh, he is no where near the bowl. For a northern born dragon, the bronze sure does love the Southern beaches and that's exactly where he'll be until he has to be anywhere else.

Kodi isn't really in any particularly big hurry, it would seem. She's managed to find a plate, some bread and some sauteed veggies, but for the rest… "Just once, steak. That's all I ask," she mutters behind the rider who tops her by nearly a foot. She stares grimly at those bits of fried fish, then gives them a past, going for the fried tubers instead. She glances up at the shirtless Ocelot rider, then reaches in front of him for one of those slivers of grilled fish. Just the one.

There's some sort of non-verbal sound of agreement from D'wane at the steak comment and the hand sneaking in front of him seems to remind him he was supposed to be doing something besides standing there. That something is apparently looking for the condiments for the fried fish. "Guess you should go to Keroon for steak?" Shhh… he hasn't been keeping up with news out of Igen and the possible herdbeast shortage there. Don't break his hopeful heart. "Don't they normally have vinegar out?" Cause apparently the only condiments to be found right now are a big ole bowl of tartar sauce that's been out for who knows how long in the summer heat, and wedges of citrus.

"Malt?" Kodi asks distractedly, still frowning at the various shapes and sizes of fish. "Someone left it by the plates," she adds, pauses, then moves to get it herself. She does tap some of it on her own fish before offering it to the big man, not quite meeting his eyes. Nothing personal, her mind's just elsewhere, and she definitely has that look. "No steak in Keroon either," she informs him, as she has been keeping up. At least when it comes to meat. "Not without a whole lot in trade or marks, anyway, from what I hear."

"Yeah…" While she's checking the actually tables, D'wane's busy looking further down the buffet. He's rather dubious why malted vinegar might be near the desserts, but some people are weird and he's looking there until the smaller rider solves the mystery. "Huh. Guess there must have been fish for lunch too." Cause it's southern and it's fish all the time. He'll raise the bottle of vinegar in a form of pseudo-toast after she passes it over before pouring some on his fish. The news about the lack of steak gets a frown from the bronzerider. "Huh. That's unfortunate. Wonder how much fish it would take to trade for a steak." Rocketh has gotten pretty good at fishing if the recipient doesn't mind some teeth holes in the fish.

Kodi snorts rather indelicately and turns to start walking back toward the table with her gear on it. "You'd have to find a Holder who really likes fish," she replies in a dry drawl, shooting him a rare if crooked grin. She settles down to eat, taking care of the fish first. After that, there's no particular pattern to the rest of her meal. No particular amount of smalltalk, either, other than a single comment on the nice blend of spices on the veggies.

"Surf and turf is a thing, right?" D'wane's pretty sure it's a thing as he heads down to claim his own seat at a nearby table. Since it's still pretty quiet in this early dinner hour his ruminations can probably carry pretty well. "So if you go far enough inland… at some point fish becomes more of a delicacy?" Anyways, he's just going to shrug and tuck into his own food. Eating is serious business and it's hard to do when talking, so he won't even really attempt it. Just giving a polite nod in response to the comment on the veggies.

"Except for the part where it still tastes like fish," Kodi replies, not looking up until she's finished the next bite. A twinkle in dark eyes indicates she's just kidding, but there's little else in her expression to corroborate. And so the early meal progresses. As the last few bites are consumed, the first few trickles of not-as-early-diners has begun, and a few heartier dishes appear on the sideboards. It's the wine Kodi's looking at, though. It's just coincidence that it's in the same vicinity as the desserts. Both are left for now, though, as she turns back to D'wane, considering him for a minute before asking, "Been to the tar pit yet?"

D'wane just shrugs and continues eating the last of his fish with relative gusto. Apparently although he might prefer a steak, the fish is perfectly acceptable as well. He may have gotten more food than the smaller rider, but it's doesn't take him much longer to finish his own meal and then he's going to stretch out and give a fine example of manspreading. Good thing he has his own chair and table so he's not impeding on anyone else's personal space. The last question though gets an eyebrow raise. "Tar pit?" That would be a no, he hasn't even heard of this. Which is surprising since that seems like something Ocelot riders should know about. How many things might get lost forever in the pit?

Kodi is about to reply right away, but a trio of gabby Jaguar riders makes her pause, watching them closely. Once they're no longer walking between the two tables, Kodi looks over at D'wane again, offering up a helpful, "The one from the volcano." Because that answers all. "I heard a couple people found old skeletons and stuff in there. Not of people, either. Sounded pretty interesting."

D'wane really has no shame and very little concept of an inside voice himself, so the gabby Jaguar riders don't really get his attention until Kodi pauses and he follows her look that way, but again another shrug. He was about to give up on getting an answer to this mystery tar pit when she finally speaks again. "Nah, I hadn't heard about it. Was there for the volcano though. And immediately after. Got more than enough of that place to last a while." A good long while.

Kodi gives the man a thoughtful nod before finishing the last of her bread. She pushes the plate and fork toward the middle of the table, then folds her arms along the edge, leaning casually. "I don't know. I feel like if something good can come of all that, why not take it?" Her focus turns inward briefly before she glances toward the exit, but she makes no immediate move to leave. "Maybe we should send Harpers. They can make some nice paintings or something."

"I mean, sure. If somebody has time to make something good of it…" D'wane's not going to stop someone from poking around in jungle and tar pits if they really have nothing better to do, but he's probably got a long list of other things to do somewhere. Hopefully it wasn't misplaced with his shirt. Anyways, there is no more food on the big man's plate so that's seems to be the signal for him to start tidying up his dishes to carry off to the dirty dish bin. "Does sound like something for the harpers. Just don't get yourself stuck in the pits if you decide to poke around." He's at least sounding semi-serious with that last bit before he gives a very sketchy half-salute and takes off, depositing the dirty dishes where they belong.
