The Tipsy Kitten

Here there be drunkards: a marble bar and the gorgeous array of colored bottles behind it would be enough to draw them in, but more yet lures those to enjoy the recreation the Kitten has to offer. Windows allow light to naturally illuminate the first floor of the tavern in the daytime, while green-tinted glows shine after nightfall. A door behind the bar leads to the tiny kitchen, while a stairway leads above to the rooms available for rent. Among the hubbub and the ruckus, a calamity of tables scatter through the open space, plenty enough for dragonpoker tournaments on restday eve.

Warm beautiful spring afternoons are meant for beach trips, a dip in the lake, or relaxing somewhere cool and enjoying it with fine people when there is time off to be had. Being a weyrling means little time off, but being cleared for drinking required some exceptions. The moment that drills were over and there was nothing else scheduled for the rest of the day, time given to the weyrlings to fly out and search for their permanent weyrs that have yet to find one, Talya has decided to take the time for something else. They were given the all clear for drinking. She still had to make sure Turahaimajusuth was well oiled, all pretty and napping in the sun, before she could take off to spend some quality time with an old friend. She bursts through the door of the Tipsy Kitten with a long loving sigh, gazing around at an old haunt (and her old work site). "It's been way too fucking long." And then with a few bounds she's at the bar. "Two firewhiskey shots, please!" Starting the evening off right.

Evka is not far behind Talya. The kitten was a favorite place to visit with Amani before candidacy and weyrlinghood took over her life. He mind echos Talya's words. "Firewhiskey?" She asks when they reach the bar. Knowing they have it in stock, she also orders an entire bottle of Zingari red. She'd done well not blowing through ALL of her savings during her time as a candidate and weyrling. Ok. She probably spent way too much on the beads and fripperies she added to her candidate robe and weyrling uniforms, but hey, they were hideous. They needed it. «No wine? I keep hearing about this wine stuff. You should try some.» Saetyroith is keen on the idea. No. No wine tonight Sae. Sometime soon though. And with that, her attention is back on Talya.

"Firewhiskey," Talya repeats after Evka, eyeing the two shots that are placed down in front of her. She places a hand to her chest and looks up at the bartender afterward. "They still remember me, and give me the cheapest stuff they have. At least I hope so, I need to save up to fill whatever weyr I wind up in." She doesn't seem to consider it too long, taking one up and pushing the second over to the other brownling. She can always order another afterward, the goal is to feel the old familiar burn of the stuff first. "To… To… Shit, I can't think of anything, I just want to drink it." Very smart, as a dragonrider should act of course. She tosses back the shot without another word, and then proceeds to make a face before coughing. "Well," she gasps out when she can. "It has definitely been a while. I bet my tolerance is trash, too." It doesn't stop her from ordering something else— a light ale this time, at least. Perhaps she should start easier.

Evka raises a brow at Talya and takes the shot when it arrives, coughing herself and rubbing at her chest. Her nose wrinkles up in slight distaste. "No offense lady, but I think I'll stick with the whiskey from home. Grab your ale and come this way." Evka holds up the red tinted whiskey bottle she'd ordered and snags up the shotglasses before heading for a table. She slips into a seat and pours a couple of shots. She pushes one at Talya and smiles. "Try this." Evka tosses back her own shot, face near rapturous as she welcomes the smooth taste and familiar burn of the redfruit flavored whiskey. "I'm so glad that someone liked this enough to start importing it here. It's one of the things I miss most from home."

Talya grins widely at Evka's reaction, happy not to be the only one affected by the strong shot. She thanks the bartender when she receives the ale and then follows Evka towards a table, slipping into an empty seat as she eyes the whiskey the other woman received. "I've never even heard of it, to be honest. I'm always happy to try new things, though." She watches Evka enjoying her first shot as she holds onto her own glass, smiling stupidly at her. "It's amazing how long it's been and how good it feels after all this time, right?" Tal doesn't yet go for the shot, considering the color as she stares down at it. "A Turn or so, right? Drinking, and… weyrs. Have you decided on yours yet? I think that's going to be the strangest feeling of all, as much as I've been waiting for my own space for so long."

Evka chuckles. "Closer to two than one." And the break had probably done more good for Evka than she has yet to realise. "It's a redfruit based whiskey, a bit smoky and sweet. You'll like it, I promise." After she catches Talya eyeballing the whiskey, she figures she should explain it. Another ale comes to land on their table, seems Evka had ordered that at the bar too. She's midsip when Talya asks about her choice in weyrs and she nods. "I picked one above the upper bowl. The view is breathtaking." She chuckles and sighs. "Y'know, I've been living in stone rooms for the better part of three turns and it still just kind of bothers me. Despite that, I'm excited for my own space again."

With the shackles of junior weyrlinghood behind him, J'ay steps through the doors and into the Tipsy Kitten with one goal in mind: to have a celebratory drink. Or three. The bronzer is currently dressed in his clean uniform and appears to have just come from the baths the way he smells like floral soapsand rather than grimy firestone. He makes his way to the bar and orders a proper drink. But, first! He needs to know what his clutchmates are drinking~ "What're we having?" To Evka and Talya, that. And a grin to follow.

"It still feels like it was just yesterday when Tura could fit his head in my lap," Talya reminisces with a tender smile. She finally takes a sip of the foreign whiskey, her eyes widening as the taste hits. Thankfully no coughing, none of that sharp spicy cheap taste of the firewhiskey. She smacks her lips and then tosses back the rest of the drink, actually letting it sit there in her mouth for a moment. "Okay, that was excellent. I am sorry that I forced you to choke down that other shit instead." She places the glass back down, and goes ahead and fills both their glasses again without waiting for the other woman. "It's too chilly up there for me. At least I figured it would be, windy and all. Alyna suggested the River Cliffs, her old weyr being empty but… I ain't sure that's the right place for us." And hey, here's another weyrling to pitch in ideas! She looks up at J'ay and gives him a grin, raising her pale ale (leaving the shot still filled). "We're having anything that we can stomach until they kick us out. Sit, sit, and join us. Have a shot of this stuff, it's pretty amazing."

Evka chuckles. "It's alright." is her response to Talya's apologies. "It is sad they're all growing up, but I think I much prefer adult dragons to baby ones." She sips at her ale, smiling on the inside when Talya goes to refill the shotglasses. One won't see Evka stopping her. "I couldn't do the River side weyrs, they were too humid and wet." J'ay is smiled at, and toasted with Evka's glass. "Whiskey and ale till we drop. Come join us!" She laughs when she and Talya basically say the same thing at the same time. Great minds.

"Don't mind if I do." It takes J'ay a moment to collect an ale from the bar and soon after he's joining his clutchmates. His drink is then lifted in 'cheers' before he takes a hearty, savoring swig. "Sharding right." There's much appreciation in his voice for that long awaited booze. "I don't remember it tasting this good." Probably because he hasn't /had/ anything remotely buzz worthy since before candidacy. Now that he's had a swig, he takes another while listening to the conversation. "Iandreth and I picked the lower bowl. It's central and close to everything." A beat, "Figured the sound of rushing water would take some getting used to near the cliffs."

"Oh, it definitely tastes several times better, after being dry for so long. It's going to take a lot for me to stop." Talya happily downs a good bit of ale like a woman dying of thirst. Then she looks between her two clutchmates and has to defend the river cliffs just a little, "It isn't that bad. You know, that river sound kind of puts you to sleep when you're sleeping over there. I didn't mind the mugginess too much either. I just don't find the view that great anymore." She presses her lips into a thin line, lost in some old thoughts, which takes her a moment to shrug away. "Being central would be the kind of spot that Tura would like. How's the view like?" she asks J'ay curiously.

Evka swings a look to J'ay as he joins them, her smile widening. Cheerful friends, banter and booze. It's a good evening thus far in Evka's book. "We took the Upper bowl, we're sky height. It's quiet, saving the wind, but you can't hear that much from inside. Any idea how you're going to furnish yet? I'm having some things imported from Igen and I found some of the best stalls down on the boardwalk for textiles. And there's this merchant woman around who can basically get you anything…" Sorry, is Evka babbling? If there's anything she loves more than performing, fashion and Saetyroith, it's interior decorating. Talya is given a bit of a worried side-eye when she mentions not liking the view at the River Cliffs much anymore. She'll have to ask her about that later. Girl talk, y'know?

J'ay swigs his ale and then sets it down as he thinks about the view from their new ledge. "It's a view of greater Weyr. Ian likes it because he can see the jungle and all of the activity that flies through the central air space." The bronze loves to observe activity in the bowl, hence his preferred location. His rider, though, isn't that picky where they turn in for the night. "I've some things from my old room in the Herder wing. It's not much, but it's a start." He then considers venturing to the boardwalk at some point for some other items to help fill the empty space. "Could use some more rugs, to be honest. Helps keep the cold air inside during the summer, or so I'm told."

Talya definitely does not want to think about river cliffs just yet, and seems to give a firm nod after listening to J'ay's description of his new home. "I'll have to check out that area later with Tura. See if there are any remaining weyrs left in that area, I think that sounds just about right. I think everyone's made their decision by now except for me, but I don't have anything to move into it either." She gives a shrug of her shoulder, then moves on to take the shot glass instead. She's going to need it if she has to think about the marks she will be spending to get even the basics into her new home. "Tura wants rugs. Also plenty of scented candles, lavender-filled pillows, colorful blankets. He likes to look good but it isn't like many people are gonna be looking at our weyr. And he always winds up seeming to make a mess at the end instead— Evka, is there a way of hiring you and maybe telling Tura that simple is good too?" Otherwise Talya is going to wind up without a mark to her name for a good long while, then how will she drink?

Evka smiles and has a server bring another shot glass by, when it comes, she fills a shot for J'ay. "Well, if you decide you need help picking things out, please don't be shy in asking, I'd love to help." Something she's offered everyone since she basically has her own plotted out already, she just has to wait for things to arrive. "Hanging a tapestry over the open ledge door would help with that too, you'll stay cool in summer and warm in winter." She gives a look of sympathy to Talya. "We'll get you sorted on things to move in Tal, never you worry. And Yes, I can try to convince Tura that simple is good too, even though I tend to take his side on that argument." After all, not only is Evka flambouyant and showy, her Saetyroith is too. Only the finest, as he demands it!

J'ay nods after finishing the last of his ale — that didn't take him long at all! Just means his second is right around the corner (like the shot of whiskey handed over to him). Perfect timing! "There are some weyrs left in the lower bowl, Talya. Better grab one so we can be neighbors." The bronzer grins and then decides he's going to venture to get another ale from that pretty barmaid further down the bar itself. Straightening, he gives another 'cheers' to his clutchmates and downs the shot of whiskey. "That'll put hair on your chest." He clears his throat afterward and smirks, nodding to both gals as he does. Now he's off to fetch another drink~

"Neighbors with someone I know would be great," Talya admits with a grin. She gives J'ay a wave as he moves off to get that drink, tossing back her own shot that goes down a lot smoother than the previous time. The body doesn't take long to remember how it goes, and at least it helps that the whiskey is good quality. "That sounds like a good idea, actually. I bet it'd have to be a tasteful tapestry, though. I mean, particularly if it faces the outside. I know the one thing that I am not looking forward to is winters in a weyr up high." She shivers, very unhappy with the thought of a cold weyr. At least they were all moving in during the Spring! "And thank you, Evka," she says sincerely. "Have you seen Tura's couch? The weyrlingmasters would have held me back if I wasn't on him about keeping it clean and cleaning up after him, too. He likes pretty things, but doesn't know how to keep them in their proper place."

Evka chuckles at J'ay and waves him off before turning to Talya and smiling. "See, there's a place to look!" She desperatly wants to ask her about the River Cliffs but is unsure how to broach the topic. So, what does she do? She downs her shot and pours another, and gestures at Talya to do the same. "He'll learn someday hopefully. I'll show him how to display everything so that he gets complimented. Feeding his ego on that one may be the key to getting him to take care. I did the same with Saetyroith." Two peas in a pod, these browns.

Talya is quick to refill the glass, because she needs yet another! There's a huff of a laugh as she shakes her head. "Oh, he gets his ego fed just fine. That is definitely not a problem for me or among his peers, apparently." She gives a little shake of her head, but the smile is fond for her dramatic brown. "I didn't think about telling him how to display stuff for compliments though." She falls quiet almost freakishly fast, as if checking in her mind on something. "Okay, he's still dead asleep. You're good at this, Evka, you sure you aren't going to jump straight into being a weyrlingmaster once you're done here for the next batch?" She lifts a brow at her friend, then lifts the shot glass in another toast. "To saving myself plenty of future meltdowns. Thanks." And down it goes.

Evka chuckles and shakes her head. "I doubt anyone would trust me with a group of weyrlings. It's not like Saetyroith and I are top of the class or anything." She sips at her ale some more at this point and looks thoughtful. "Thanks for the compliment though, I'm glad to help. "To saving you from future meltdowns." Evka winks, Tura's meltdowns are downright epic and Saetyroith is always amused by them. She downs her shot. The old familiar buzz begins to creep into her mind and she slows down on the drinking. No flying drunk, she'd promised herself that.

At least the infamous Tura-meltdowns were rare now that they were older. The last probably having been his straps… there was no way that Talya would put that much effort and marks into making them pretty, when it took enough of to make them absolutely secure and strong. Not to mention the brown was going to outgrow them before he could even get over the meltdown, most likely. "You never know, F'kan was quite the fuck up from what I heard around the Weyr gossip and look at him now. Not that I'm saying you're a fuck up, far from it!" she adds hastily with a chuckle. She finishes off the rest of her ale, leaning an elbow on the table and placing her head in her hand heavily. She's getting a bit toasty, those first shots hitting hard already. She stares at the bottom of the empty pint before setting it down. "Looking forward to actually fighting Thread? Can't be long now til we're actually in the thick of it, even if it's just to toss those bags of firestone we're filling up."

Evka nearly chokes on her ale as Talya brings up F'kan because she's now chortling to herself. "You have no idea." Evka had been quite close to that situation. "So maybe…" She lets herself dream for a moment before coming back to reality. As for thread… "I'm fucking terrified, are you kidding me? I think we'll do well, they've done a good job teaching us the drills and I think they'll continue to do so. But thread and my people have a hate/hate relationship." Indeed the Zingari mother clan had nearly been wiped out by thread upon it's return.

Talya lifts her brows in question at Evka's reaction to the mention of F'kan. Hey, Talya wasn't around during that time and she apparently didn't know the juicy details. The question doesn't linger long in her thoughts, however, as she is brought back to the more serious topic that she brought up first. "Me too," she says without a hint of embarassment at admitting just how scared she was about the whole fighting Thread thing. "Tura has enough animosity for the both of us against Thread. I feel like the more I learn, the more it's common sense not to do stupid shit, though. I guess you just never know til you're up there, or how others end up reacting around us. We got a lot of good heads in our group, though." At least, Tal hopes so. She probably doesn't really include herself in that category.

Evka nods along as Talya speaks. "Aye, I can see where you're coming from there." She looks at the candle marking the time and sighs. "We should probably get going. We have those early drills in the morning." Evka stops up the bottle of whiskey and begins gathering her things, leaving about a third of her ale unfinished. "Shall we?" She leaves the marks for the whiskey and stands.

As her clutchmate gets up to go, Talya looks at their table with a wistful expression. "Do we have to?" That little piece of her still remained, where she just wanted to drink the night away and sleep the rest of the day. Shame about life and having to grow up. She makes a loud exasperated noise and gets up finally, but not without first taking the rest of the other brownling's ale (waste not) and then dropping a few more marks to add to her own tab and tip for the staff. She seems a little unstable on the way out, but otherwise is grinning happily as she follows after. "You'll have to come by and check out my big empty weyr once we settle in. You know, after we fly up there tomorrow to check which one's empty that we want." Location decided, just have to run one by the other half. Talya may regret that extra bit tomorrow morning, but at least she had someone to keep her from over indulging.
