Central Bowl

Cradled childlike in an easterly mountainous embrace, the steppes of the central bowl nestle cozily between lake and weyr. The latticework of dusty adobe paths spider out from the southerly Weyr Road, wagon-ruts of which curve lazily to the adobe sprawl of the northeastern bazaar. A small footpath, just as abused, ambles away from the lake's shore, travelling over rock and hill to the northern dragonet complex and branching itself due west to end at the entrance of the blessedly cool inner caverns. The abandoned caverns of Igen-that-was lie at the end of one disused tracking. All around, the dizzying heights of the caldera's sharp-sloped sides are pocked here and there with ledges, the weyrs' draconic occupants needing no path to guide their way.

It is the forty-third day of Winter and 40 degrees. It is a bright, sunny day.

Finally, finally Reiyaseith has blooded her first animal. Finally, because it seems almost like WEEKS since she first started showing signs of proddiness. Weeks that Khali's been driven nigh-on to utter distraction as Reiyaseith flits from one amazing idea to another. Unfortunately for said Khali Reiyaseith has decided to blood right as her rider walks through the center bowl of the weyr. So that's where red-headed Khali has frozen her eyes fixed towards where her dragon laps at the blood, the color drained from her own face. It makes her look a little bit like she's burning, the unkempt red curls on top and blaze of freckles down below. "JA'UN!!!!!!!!" That yell totally echos, just for dramatic effect.

Technically technically, Doji's shift in the dragonhealer yard is over, but that doesn't mean she's vacated the premises. While the brownrider might be dillydallying over such boring thing as hidework, Raktraeth's finally awoken from his wintery morning hibernation to spy a commotion in the bowl, one that he totally wants to a be a part of! It's a bit of a process for the behemoth to lumber to his feet, but once he launches in the air, he makes quick work of snagging not just one, but two porcines as he gives a happy rumble. « That's my girl!!! » A gentle breeze blows through those redwood giants that make up his mind and a few sunbeams break through to show a little sapling on the forest floor quickly growing upwards.

Azrith has definitely been keeping a very close eye on the newest green in Arroyo for awhile now and as luck would have it, he had just picked Zaria up from the Last Call, the bluerider a tad tipsy after a couple drinks on her afternoon off, when Reiyaseith took down her first kill. He's none too delicate in the way he takes off as soon as he drops her near the Lving Cavern entrance, a trumpeting bugle called as he wings his way over to the pens and choses his own meal to blood for the energy. And one look at the behemoth brown tells him he will need it. Zaria for her part winces when she is subjected to the bellow and looks over to see Khali in all her dramatic glory. Oh this is just sharding great. But the alcoholic fumes and the rush of Azrith lust do remind Zaria that at least Khali is female so that's a bonus.

What sort of rider is /asleep/ at this time of day? The sun tepidly casting warmth down from above while the Weyr is doing all of its daily sort of chores and tasks. Ja'un is that rider, blissfully gone upon the waters of dreams during his nap. Whirlwind has all of its training almost /predawn/, so he has gone to nap before the rest of his day's work. Except the bugle of a awake and rowdy bronze causes Ja'un to thrash about his bed willynilly until he prompts falls free from it. "WHAATTT?!" Quick mental communications has Ja'un jumping in only a single boot as he gathers up things to wear and is almost mounting Loranduth before rushing back to grab his other boot. Then they're aflight and thumping down in the Central Bowl. He is very very late, Loranduth moving before Ja'un is completely untangled. So he faceplants into the soft sand. But he is here at least. Loranduth is blooding now as well.

"Ja'un!" There's relief in the diminutive Khali's voice as the man arrives, and she runs forward to cling to him - but stops short. It's probably Reiyaseith's influence because at that same moment Reiyaseith is hissing at the late Loranduth for being LATE. The hiss has blood flying through the air to speckle each of those who court her before the green pushes herself up into the sky, wings snapping open. Her mind is clouded as she reaches out to the trio of dragons, and a harsh rain begins to pour sending the gentle spirits of her forest fleeing for cover. Lightning sparkles through the rains to illuminate the hiding forest below. « HA. Good luck you huge buttheads. » Yeah, that is to ALL of those dragons below her.

Conceding the inevitable, Doji tucks her unfinished reports into a binder to be completed another day and slowly makes her way into the bowl with her hands stuck firmly into her jacket pockets. There might be a little muttering in the direction of the feeding grounds, but she's here. Raktraeth takes the hissing and fury of the rain in stride. Nature's wrath is definitely something he's weathered more than once before and his trees stand firm in that gale. Even if there might be one smoldering a little bit from a lightning strike. He can ignore it for now as he launches himself after the dainty little green. « Is that what the weyrlingmasters are teaching for anatomy these days? Sounds like someone could use some more lessons… »

Watching Khali call out for the arriving bronzerider does bring a frown to Zaria's face. She tried to warn the greenrider when she grounded her that there's no guarantee when it comes to flights, but she wasn't even sure then if she had gotten through to the girl…apparently not. Sigh. The ginger-haired Wingleader just runs her hand through her hair before crossing her arms over her chest and settling in for the wait. Already she can feel the the warmth spreading from Azrith to her. Speaking of the blue, he had almost finished blooding his first when the green hisses at her suitors, replying with a deep rumble of his own. « You tell him sweetling, how dare he take his time. » the blue encourages mischieveously before snapping his own wings down to follow with haste once she takes to the skies. A rich mental chuckle replies to her taunt as he reches out with a touch of pale gossamer, « Sassy as well as alluring, I'm sure the luck is all ours. »

Loranduth is bugling all coy-like to Reiyaseith. «I have arrived. Have no fear!» The bronze has blood dripping down his muzzle as the Green unleashes her wings and jumps into flight. A few more gulps before Bronze wings stretch wide and he lifts from the air to give chase. Poor Ja'un though, doused in rain and now sand stands by his lonesome, brushing his hands down his clothes to shake sand free. A bit of a wan smile as he tries not to shiver as even the slightest breeze drains heat from his body. "Its a lovely day for this, isn't it?"

« Like I care about YOU.» Reiyaseith spits back towards Loranduth's insinuation that she is AFRAID. UGH. MALES. « YOU AREN'T MY TEACHER! » Gets blasted at Raktraeth, while Azrith gets just a, « You aren't the boss of me NOW! » Before she's turning wing over wing and darting away from all three of them. Khali pouts on the ground as she rubs at her arms. "I don't like this I don't like this I don't like this…." She's just going to sit, right there, in the dirt and cover her head with her arms.

« But I can be! » If Raktraeth had any eyebrows, he'd be wiggling them even as his tail lashes out more seriously towards the competing suitors although that's mostly just to test and make sure there's adequate space. He might not have the sheer speed that Azrith and Reiyasetih possess, but the massive wings can cover a lot of air quickly nonetheless. In the bowl, Doji gives a grimace as Khali pouts into the ground, although she doesn't move much closer. Space, it's important and she respects that. "On the bright side, it'll be over soon and then you can get on with your life for another six months or so…"

« Of course not lovely, you are the one completely in charge now. » Azrith asserts even as his pale blue wingsails work overtime to pump him higher and higher after the verdant prize. Her aerial acrobatics are met with an impressed trill as he dives and twirls after her, putting himself on display just as fully. There's much sympathy in Zaria's eyes for her wingrider, but it's quickly turning to something else as her blue is wide open broadcasting his rising desires to his rider and her face is quickly starting to flush. She doesn't move forward, but she does offer some soothing words for the first-timer. "Deep breaths Khali. Just like Doji said, it will be over soon, just take deep breaths and stay with her."

Quiet time for Loranduth, he is dashing amidst other wings to gain himself some space and height so he has room to manuever. The bronze is fine with being just a bit behind the other chasering dragons, plenty of space to nudge people out of the way as they follow after the spritely Green. Ja'un isn't the one to break the small circle forming around Khali, and he isn't going to offer up his own words. He isn't quite sure what the red-head is going through, with never going to be on that side of a flight. Besides. Its cold when you aren't dressed for the weather!

"Ugh, I hate you ALL." It's hard to tell who is talking there, as that's one of Khali's favorite phrases. Ja'un's heard it so many times. Up above Reiyaseith banks in the sky and turns about to dart RIGHT at the pack of dragons chasing her, aiming to absolutely bite one of them if they don't scatter quickly enough. Mentally she flashes her lighting at EACH ONE OF THEM because they're all just STUPID BUTTS. Or TAILS. OR WHATEVER.

Doji looks decidedly uncomfortable at the declaration of hate and she just sticks her hands deeper into her own pockets and takes a step backwards. There might be a few glances up towards the sky, but any last minute efforts to get Raktraeth to abandon his current pursuit are probably in vain. The ruddy brown rumbles merrily as Reiyaseith lashes out with those lightning strikes (as well as teeth!), but he'll brave it gamely as he dives towards the green aiming to envelope all with his massive wings although it's a risky move since that also means there's plenty of wing available for any of the other suitors to tangle with or push through.

Zaria blinks a little bit at Khali's outburst but she doesn't say anything. A first flight is never an easy thing, and the bluerider kind of got the impression that Khali, while a good rider in general, may have a bit of maturing to do. Maybe this will help…or maybe not. Her hazel eyes don't leave the prone greenrider though, as she bunches her hands into fists as the tension courses through her. She tries to take her own advice and remebers to breathe. Above, the raucous flight that Reiyaseith has led them on has got the blue's ichor boiling and he spies his chance just as the green turns the tables on them. He drops then performs a tight loop to come at her from behind, thrusting dark obsidian claws in her directions, reaching for the maiden prize.

Ja'un is entirely unaffected by Khali's murmurings, even offering a level-headed. "Mmmhhmm." He has heard the phrase plenty and its always directed towards the situation than anything else. "She is just overwhelmed." Words to the wise for those surrounding Khali, unaware of her lashing out demeanor. Not that its okay. Loranduth's mindscape reacts to those lighting blasts with vivid bursts of color trailing smoke. Fireworks bursting for the festivities! He'll dive now, bustling his huge body through the careening dragons to try and bump people free of Reiyaseith and seek to claim her claws with his own! Clutching and grasping as hide and wings collide this way and that way.

There is an abrupt gasp from Khali when Reiyaseith turns to fly RIGHT AT the dragons, and she scrambles to her feet - "NO!" That's getting yelled at the sky because even Khali knows that is a STUPID MOVE, but then she bites down on her lip hard enough to make it bleed. Alas, Khali's right, because her maneuver is stupid stupid stupid. It ends with her being caught in the embrace of a dragon. This dragon? Owned by Flufferkins, of the picture http://cdn.thedesigninspiration.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/Cute-Rabbits-012.jpg.

Azrith wastes no time once he gets purchase of the green to pull her towards him, wrapping her up in his azure wings bugling his triumph for all and sundry before falling with Reiyaseith and showing her what true passion is for the first time. For her part, Zaria sucks in a breath and lunges towards the risen Khali and pulls the younger woman into her embrace with matching passion as she presses against her. Dragonlust is coursing through her as she frantically tries to think of where they could go before things get taken too far.

There's a time for every season, but apparently this particular winter is not Raktraeth's season. The bulking behemoth just couldn't manuever with the smaller dragons and Azrith manages to zip the green right out from under him. With a grumble of disappointment, Raktraeth wings off towards his own ledge. Doji looks torn between her own relief and her lifemate's own frustration. But she stiffens up and tries to bottle those emotions all deep inside with everything else. Getting out of here is high on her priority but not before she coughs towards the pair. "Ground weyrs are that away." And off the brownrider goes to go compose herself.

Reiyaseith is going to make Azrith regret catching as she clings to the blue hard, digging her claws keep into the blue to bring forth ichor. Khali's no different below, reaching blindly for Zaria and kissing her soundly- heedless of the blood that issues from her own lip. Zaria'd better take charge, because Khali's already trying to rip off her opposite's clothing.

Azrith isn't opposed to a rougher mating, variety is the spice of life afterall, as he bellows at the bite of her sharp claws into his bright blue hide. Below, Zaria lifts a hand and gives a thumb's up in Doji's direction even as she is caught up blissfully with Khali's kisses. When the greenrider starts to attempt to strip her in full view of the Bowl, Zaria has just enough control of herself, it's what comes with a decade bonded to a most lascivious blue, to scoop the smaller woman into her arms and carry her off in the direction of the nearest ground weyr, silently begging Faranth not to let Khali expose her before they've made their way to somewhere more private.

The larger dragons don't make it through to clutch the small one's talons, not with that blue diving between their grasp to interpose himself there. Loranduth's baleful bugle is resounding as he circles down with widespread wings. Down down towards the ground to find some means to shake it off. Ja'un's mouth gapes though at the furious attempts of Khali to couple with Zaria. He'll stand in place a bit, steadily getting more and more doused before rousing himself to escape the damnable rain and into drier places. To change.

Ground Weyrs
Spacious by necessity, the slightly grimy atmosphere of these weyrs house couches made to fit dragons of various sizes and in various states of health, each with feeding and watering stations near to hand, as well as the necessary medical aids to treat any draconic illness. A small alcove offers up a different view: Healer's records stashed in meticulous order on a shelf, a cluttered desk full of hidework in process, and a polished small basin where fresh water may be poured. Above it, a small rocky shelf protrudes, holding various cleaning supplies in neatly labeled containers: redwort is most prevalent, followed by numbweed.

The ground weyr that was the nearest came nicely equipped with a comfortable bed and fresh linens, changed out frequently just for this type of occurance. But Zaria doesn't register any of that as she's sprawled on her back, one arm curling around Khali to tuck her up next to her comfortably. The booze she has partaken in earlier that afternoon combined with a most vigorous post-flight romp meant that the bluerider quickly dozed off once they had worn each other out. Stirring slightly, it briefly looks like she was coming round, but she merely shifts and turns onto her side all the better to wrap her other arm around the warm, soft body next to her as well, while she exhales a satiated hum in her sleep.

Khali's red hair is EVERYWHERE after that, as are the marks of her fingernails. She made zero attempt to be gentle as they twisted together and it's only exhaustion that holds her still in Zaria's embrace now. As she is pulled closer she blinks and then moans to herself, eyes pressing shut as she leans against Zaria like she could just make the world go away.

It's that little moan that finally pierces through the fog enveloping Zaria's mind, the warmth of another body next to her momentarily startling before the memories come flooding back. Oh shards! Azrith had done it again! With a one of her wingriders' dragon…Again! She can't be too mad though as she can feel Khali lean into her, the softness of her skin bringing a satiated sigh from the bluerider's lips as she gently lets a hand run up and down the girl's back gently. "Doing ok now?" she asks in a soft murmur but doesn't pull away just yet.

Khali has her face firmly hid against Zaria's side, and soon enough it's going to become clear that she's started crying. It's the sniffle that'll be the first clue, but with nothing between their skin Zaria'll feel the wetness of the tears soon enough. This was not how Khali expected this to go.

"Hey now…" Zaria croons a little bit as she gives the girl a tight squeeze of reassurance. Of all the reactions post-flight, crying isn't that common so the bluerider just tries to let her get it out. "Shhhh Khali, it's ok. It takes everyone differently the first time. You did fine, promise." She says that even as she shifts and the motion brings a sting of pain from the various scratches dealt to her by the greenrider in the throes of passion.

There's so much sniffling going on as Khali continues to cry, though when Zaria makes it clear that she knows Khali's crying the girl DOES try to reel it in. She does this mostly by holding her breath which only works as long as she can hold it. Finally though, she lets it out and manages, "Ja'un is going to be so mad…."

"Oh sweetie…" Zaria lifts her hand to the back of Khali's head to run her fingers soothingly down her hair. "I don't know the guy, but if he's worth the time of day, that won't matter to him," she leans back a little bit and looks down at Khali, even going so far to catch her chin in her fingers and try to get her to look up. "That wasn't you…It was Reiyaseith. You were just along for the ride. If he doesn't know that, then he doesn't deserve you."

As a redhead Khali does NOT cry pretty-like. Her eyes and nose are all puffy-red with the tears. "He…he…" Khali tries to get the words out but fails completely. Instead she pushes herself up and sits with her arms curled around her legs. No matter that she's completely naked right now, there are more important words. "What… if he doesn't want me now?"

Zaria is so familiar with how redhaeads ugly-cry, but as Khali sits herself up, the bluerider sighs and props herself up on an elbow, not bothering with covering herself either as she's more focused on the girl who is crying in bed with her. Not the preferred outcome in these circumstances, but this is one of her wingriders and so she tries to slip into her Wingleader's knot, metaphorically speaking. "Well, if he doesn't, he's a sharding fool and you deserve better. Why do you think he wouldn't want you?" she asks gently.

Khali tries to wipe at her eyes, pushing tears away. "He… he was the only person I'd been with. Ever." Well, she pauses and blushes as she looks at the naked Zaria before her. "Before now. If… if I'm not good enough now? He's all I have… Reiya, but she's… she's a dragon."

Zaria's mouth forms a small "o" as realization hits. "I see. Well…You can look at it this way, Ja'un is still the only man you've been with. I don't have the parts to do what he can do…" she trails off with a bit of a shudder as she imagines those bits and all the times she's inadvertantly come into contact with them. "Why would you not be good enough for him? You were raised Holder right? Things don't work that way in the Weyr, hun. What would he expect you to do? The dragon flies, the rider complies. It's not cheating."

"Do… do you really… think so?" Khali doesn't sound at all sure of it herself, but at least mildly willing to believe her at the moment. She does reach out to grab up a blanket and curl it tightly in her arms. Right now she doesn't look twenty, but someone much much younger. "He's the only one who… who puts up with me."

Zaria sighs deeply and nods her head, "Of course, how often do I say things I don't really believe wingrider?" Zaria replies putting on her 'Wingleader' voice but also grinning at the girl. Reaching for one of the furs drapped at the foot of the bed, she wraps it around her self for the sake of decency at least as well as some warmth, now that the heat of passion has worn off, the bluerider shivers slightly. Khali's last does earn her a sympathetic look, "Oh Khali. If he really does 'put up with you', which I think is putting it mildly, then there's should be no doubt that this, something you didn't even have control over, isn't going to matter."

Khali runs another quick hand over her face, slowly composing herself. Oh well, slowly composing until Zaria says 'isn't going to matter'. Something about that phrase makes Khali fall apart all over again and fling herself at Zaria to hug the woman tightly. It's going to take a bit of talking to settle her again, but at least talking is good?

Zaria doesn't get a lot of pretty young women throwing themselves at her, but she usually prefers them not to be leaking tears all over her when they do. So the bluerider spends whatever time is needed to talk Khali down and hopefully make her see that this isn't the end of the world and that surely her bronzerider will be the perfect example of chivalry and grace. Hopefully it's helpful, but either way it's going to be a long night.
