Fields

Terraced over the rolling mountains of Southern's wilds, crops fight against the encroaching jungle that must be held at bay by diligent farmers. Guards are stationed at intervals across the hills, where the trees growth is thick enough to allow the lurking predator to hide. It's not Thread that threatens the luscious crops that cling to the side of the mountain, it's the felines and wherries larger than life that would partake of the feast that awaits the courageous. Each terrace lays claim to a large swathe of arable land; the fields themselves cover a vast portion of the hilly slopes. To cross the fields, from one end to the other, without runner or wagon, would take several candlemarks.

It is the thirty-fourth day of Winter and 50 degrees. Partly cloudy, the storm seems to be mostly gone with only the occasional short falls of rain painting the ground.

When was the last time Lorawyn had a legit day off and not just being done for the day by the time Rukbat is no longer visible? It's hard for her to recall, along with many of her fellow healers, which of course meant that she'd be prevented from entering the infirmary eventually. And that day is today. For the most part, she'd been wandering around her regular haunts, but eventually decided that she should probably take some time to just… do nothing. Which is what she is doing right now, or rather, she's simply just wandering the fields rather aimlessly during a period of no rain. Where is she exactly in the fields? Who knows~

Clearly she's close enough to the shipweyrs, that a certain green pair are going to divert their original landing site for one a little bit closer. There is a slight croon from the large dark-star green, even as Vani scampers down her side in a move that is very much practised. "Lora!" Vani greets with a big grin, and a dismissive slap on Caelisth's shoulder. The green is going to take advantage of the momentary lack of rain and wings her way up to the top of the shipweyr she calls home, even as Vani crosses the small distance between where she landed, and where Lorawyn is. "I feel like I haven't seen you in forever!"

Shadows of dragons above aren't really a new thing for Lorawyn, it's more so when the shadow is suddenly getting rather large near her that she pays any attention. That's when she actually looks up to see the familiar green make a landing, her lifemate following suit immediately after. The grin is met with a wide smile from the healer, gaze following the green momentarily as she flies over to the shipweyr. She hadn't even realized she'd gotten so close to them. "It probably has been forever," she comments with a more wry smile. "Did you just finish for the day?"

Vani nods. "We regularly have afternoons off. Something about lounging around on beaches." Or charting the coastline… "But with winter and all, we usually just head home and curl up in warm little balls." And then she squints and cocks her head. "Did they kick you out of the infirmary again?" Because that's about the only explaination she has for Lorawyn wandering out and about outside her home.

There's only a slight eyebrow raise for the beach lounging, but then Vani expands and Lorawyn nods with a soft 'ah'. That eyebrow rises a little more when the greenrider squints at her though and then makes a bit of a face at the question. "Maybe," is her answer. "Or maybe I decided to finally take a break or something." HAH. Totally possible, right?

Vani laughs, and try as she might, it's only just on the polite side of a cackle. "Uh-huh." Vani totally believes you Lora! "I don't think there's much actual herbs out here. Unless they're here accidently. It's mostly weeds and flowers and stuff." And okay, some grass for animals to eat. "It's pretty though right?" Seeing as most of the times Vani has prevailed upon Lorawyn to see her home where under the cover of darkness.

If Vani looks really closely, she might be able to tell that Lorawyn is trying super hard to not roll her eyes right now, though there's a hint of a smile on her lips. And then she's squinting at her friend before looking around. And actually looking at the greenery around her. "Yea, it is." Not that she takes much stock in admiring scenery too often but that's just how she is. "How're things with you?" There's a little wave of her hand which means that the question is relatively broad and the greenrider is likely free to choose from any range of topics.

Vani draws in a deep breath. "Slowly getting better." She admits. Part of the reason it has felt like forever is because of drama. Looking about she steps that little closer to Lorawyn once she's assured that there aren't any lingering eavesdroppers. There was a big marvelous DRAMA filled explosion which Vani will quite happily skip around because it's OVER NOW. "It was a bit messy for a while. But things are slowly getting better." She reaffirms. "How about you? I do keep on trying to catch you, but I'm so busy now. And you're always busy."

Lorawyn has learned to be a pretty considerate friend, or so she likes to think, so of course doesn't pry about whatever it is that Vani deemed to be messy. If the greenrider were so inclined, she's welcome to share, if not, the healer won't ask. "That's good then," is all she says instead, nodding. "Same as ever, as you might imagine. I keep myself busy because there's nothing else going for me. You know where to find me if you ever need me. I'd make time for you." No doubt her fellow healers would be more than happy to see her get out more often.

Vani nods in that way that indicates she is listening. She's quiet for a moment or two longer before blurting. "Look, do you want to come in for a klah or something? We usually have some basic food as well, cheese sausage…" Blush. "That kind of thing?" Because while it might not be raining, it isn't exactly pleasant for long conversations. "I mean you don't have too, but I don't think you've seen the inside of my place have you?" Clearly what is A'hali's is hers at this stage.

For a moment, Lorawyn is a bit thrown off by the sudden invitation but eventually her expression relaxes and she offers her friend a smile. "No, I don't think I have." Seen the inside of her place, that is. "Some warm klah sounds pretty good right about now, so sure." While it's not freezing, the weather is definitely biting enough for most people to want to be inside.

Vani gives another grin, this time a companionable one as she slips her arm into Lorawyn's and starts them on their way. "Aren't you lucky I live so close then!" It's serendipity! Or something. While they make their way towards the beached ships given new purpose as unconventional weyrs she goes on to discuss the other matters that have been consuming her time. "So. Caelisth went up again the other seven." Lorawyn likes it when Vani talks about sex right?

"Lucky indeed," Lorawyn agrees just as companioably as she follows along as Vani leads her to the shipweyr. As they walk, the healer takes some time to actually take in the details of the beached vessels and how the various riders have adapted the exterior to suit land life. "I'm guessing Ohanaveth didn't catch her this time?" the healer ventures to ask with that topic being brought up, recalling the last time she'd seen Vani.

Vani shakes her head. "Nah. You remember N'tash? The guy who repeated weyrlinghood?" Everyone knows N'tash for that right? "His Enzoth caught." Vani is doing her very best nonchalant impression right now. "It was… interesting…" She's still trying to catagorise her reactions to that unexpected win. "Different." Well d'uh, she's only got that one other guy to compare it too.

If anyone were to remember N'tash, Lorawyn definitely would. She could hardly count how many times he ended up in the infirmary during his first weyrlinghood. She doesn't verbally reply, but there's acknowledgement enough in the slightly incredulous look on the healer's face. There's a thoughtful hum from her, though she doesn't say anything else. She's not one to talk about 'differences' considering she's only been with one guy so. "Well… I guess it could've been worse?"

Vani nods emphatically. "The pirate decided to show up. I told him to fuck off, but he didn't." It could have been somuch worse. "But it's done with for now." There is a lilt to her voice that suggests she'd be okay if it never happened again. "Until next time." She groans, even as she strains her neck to look up at Caelisth, who is now kind of above them. "I guess she's worth it though." Finally there is an affectionate twist to her tone, even as she heads onto the ledge. "Hal wont be home for a while, so just us." Which is true considering the ledge itself is empty. Then she opens the door so that they can enter.

While Lorawyn has no personal problems with the pirate, she knows well enough her friend's dislike of him. There's at least a sympathetic pat from the healer at that little bit of news, and then a wry smile for Vani's groaning. "Guess you'll just have to learn to live with all the possibilities, hm?" Because it's not like greenriders have much say in what dragon catches theirs, right? Or so Lorawyn's learned. Then they're stepping into the shipweyr and Lorawyn pauses near the entryway to just look around while Vani follows in after.

We're going to pretend our pretend here cos I'm lazy~ But the interior is simple in warm hues with shelves and cages and comfy chairs. It's a nice place okay? "Don't just stand there!" Vani scolds as she edges herself in enough to start removing her boots. "You can take a seat, at the couch or the table. Hopefully the stuff I brewed this morning is still good." Vani explains as she shrugs off her jacket as well. Aaah, if she had a bra that'd probably be going next. But she doesn't, so instead she goes to the sketchy kitchenette to get the klah ritual started. "How'd you take it?"

Also please note Vani, not answering or otherwise responding to Lorawyns question. Lalalalala~

SHE KNOWS YOU HEARD HER, VANI. But whatever~ Also, Lorawyn's trying to not be rude and stuff, okay? But she'll move further in to take a seat as indicated on the couch, looking curiously around, gaze ending up on the cages for a moment. Then she lifts her gaze to look back over at Vani, "Some cream and sugar, please. Thanks." Then back to the cages. "So what're these cages for?" Because Lora-player assumes they're empty~

Not all of them are empty surely? "Hal likes to heal small creatures he finds after 'falls." There is a soft affectionate and relatively matter-of-fact explaination from the direction of the kitchen. They've been there longer than Vani has so she has accepted them. "But it's been a bit hectic lately." What with the volcano and all the refugees and excitement and all. "He says it helps him perfect his skills as a healer." Vani continues the explanation as she carries two mugs to the couch, both well creamed and sugared. Holding one out for Lorawyn she smiles. "He's a qualified dragonhealer now." Just in case Lorawyn was confused by the lack of gentle giant in her infirmary.

How was she supposed to know?! Aaanyway… Lorawyn looks interested enough, at least, peeking at whatever critters the cages happens to hold. She takes the mug of klah gratefully with a quiet word of thanks. And she does know that A'hali is a dragonhealer. They've probably run into each other a few times… the two infirmaries are separated only by a curtain of cloth, after all. "I guess that's certainly one way to go about it," she notes with a small grin before proceeding to sip on her klah. Yum~ "You guys have a nice place," she finally comments after looking around again. "Cozy."

Vani smiles as she sips from her mug, looking about at the furniture that is NO LONGER NAILED DOWN, and the only partially filled cages and the rest of the warm wooden weyr. "It is home." She eventually replies once she is swallowed. "We are happy here." So yes, it is cozy. "Don't touch the ones that are all covered up. They're probably tunnelsnakes." Because A'hali doesn't differentiate between 'good' animals and 'bad' animals… They are all worthy of care.

Lorawyn settles back against the couch, mug securely settled between both of her hands as she continues to look around. There's a brief glance over at Vani and a small smile for her friend. Then a frown as her gaze drifts to the covered cages. "Right… well. I definitely wasn't planning on going anywhere near any of them anyway, so…" Doesn't matter if it's tunnelsnakes or something else. Then she's going to sip some more of her klah, content with the brief moment of silence. (Also, her player's brain is blah right now cause she's sleepy :D)

Sooner or later though, Vani is going to start fidgetting again, she may appear indolent compared to most of her peers, but underneath that is a person who is just as incapable of inactivity as well. And seeing as Lorawyn's player is sleeeepy~ About all Vani is going to do is gossip lightly to appease her inner promptings of 'do something!' And thus they'll spend a pleasant afternoon out of the cold, chatting in the cozy warmth of A'hali's shipweyr. THE END

YAY.

Fine! I SEE HOW IT IS!
