War Room

Within this room there is a constant buzz, a low-pitched thrum of activity no matter the time of day — or night. Here are the records for the current leadership, and pertinent information for the time: inventories and star-charts, ledgers and tithe manifests and wing records. Such valuable information is kept twice-watched by two disparate forces: a guard at the door and the archivist at his table, and none quite sure which of the two is more dangerous.

Winter sees another rainy afternoon and most would likely be trying to stay indoors if they can. Va'os doesn't mind being inside and dry, but he's probably itching to be anywhere BUT this room, the council room or any form of "official" room. Currently he is alone, digging through some ledgers as he mutters to himself with the occasional curse and oath. The only other souls here are the guard and archivist, but they are preoccupied with their own work and duties to be paying much attention to the Weyrleader's incoherent ramblings. From his expression and the occasional sound of his voice (terse and clipped), he's mid-argument… with himself. Maybe Tsiroth is involved?

Trying hard not to bristle too much, Alyna is prowing around, lookin for someone. Haquith refuses to be roused from her sleep, on the beach, were her lustrous chartreuse glow is clearly on display, so her rider is reduced to searching out her target the old fashioned way. After some clipped inquiries, the diminutive blonde is now peeking into the War Room, her icy blue eyes scanning the area until they land on the Weyrleader. With one final deep breath, she steels herself and moves over to where he is arguing with himself. She has a thick folder under one arm and her face is a frozen neutral, as if she is fighting against showing any emotion at this time. When she reaches him she clears her throat if he hasn't already spied her. "Good Afternoon Sir." And she'll toss him a stiff salute. "Do you have a moment by any chance?" Her voice is even, if a little strained, and there may be a small whiff of alcohol on her breath, but she seems steady enough.

Nope, Va'os is unaware because he's too wound up in his one-sided argument! There's a jolt to his posture ? not quite a jump but close enough when Alyna's voice just pipes up behind him. "Faranth's tits, woman!" he curses, only to cough and add with a lopsided grin (that's more of a grimace of one fending off a mental onslaught… Tsiroth must be bombarding him with "music" again). "Sorry … Alyna, is it? You startled me!" Brushing that off, he'll nod and look almost relieved that she has something to harass him with. He'll regret it later, okay? "Mhm, I do. What do you have that's important enough to hunt me down?" If he can catch a whiff of that alcohol, he says nothing. Va'os won't judge, so long as she's not completely inebriated.

Clearing her throat she hands him over the folder as she starts to describe the contents. "Sir, this is a report covering how through observations I made the day the refugee boat landed and then some time later, I think I have proof that the refugees sabotaged their own boat to have an excuse to land at that cove." She then straightens up and balls her hands into fists over and over at her sides as she continues, "You will also find included in there, the expert reports from a Journeyman Seacrafter and a Senior Journeyman Woodsmith who agree with me." She clears her throat again as she subtly tries to take a deep breath.

Is it bad that Va'os' expression visibly drops when he's handed that folder? No? Is it equally as bad that he immediately pawns it off by tucking it under his arm? Because that's exactly what he does. Just 'nope' right on out of that! Since Alyna is going to give a verbal report and that seems to be more important to him. "Huh. So it's their expert opinion that back your claim? What got you suspicious of them, anyhow?" It's not accusatory, his tone. Merely curious, as he adopts a very nonchalant posture compared to the greenrider's tension. It could be read wrong, but Va'os doesn't seem to care either way.

Alyna tries not to bristle as he tucks the folder with the report that contains everything in minute detail. But ok, he wants to be told what happened. She can do that. "When they landed, I was the first one to confront them. The sailor who answered my inquiries was a fucking smug bastard." she winces as she clears her throat a bit and regains control of her potty mouth. "He acted in a very suspicious manner when asking me what I wanted the, to do, they sprang a leak and there were over 30 people aboard. Which by the way, the expert opinion says, is way more than should have been on that vessel. And after that, I even said to him point blank that there is no way they were ever headed to Southern Barrier. Unfortunately, I never got an answer out of him because I believe that is when you showed up Sir." There's a touch of sarcasm seeping into her tense tone now, but she's doing her best to hold it back.

Va'os is, at least, listening to Alyna and rather attentively. He could've brushed her off! This could have been MUCH worse. "This fucking smug bastard have a name?" he asks as he mulls over the rest of her report. Brows furrow and his jaw works in silent though before he scoffs lightly. "You're Ocelot, right?" He'll give her a quick look over, just in case she is wearing a Wing badge. Without a word of warning, he'll shift and start to walk down the small aisle… and likely assumes she'll just follow along. "So rather than get the guy's name or, I dunno… stall him, you jump down his throat and accuse him… Suppose that's besides the point." Cue a dismissive wave of his hand and then he holds up a finger. "We already knew about the boat, by the way? Black Rock's watchrider warned us something was up." Oops? Va'os stops by a table a chairs, though he doesn't sit and opts to lean against the table's edge instead. "And yeah, I'm not surprised you didn't get an answer! Accusing someone who's been caught "potentially" being a bad, bad person tend to clam up when cornered. And yeah, I showed up. Tsiroth and I got summoned. Kind of be an asshole to ignore that, eh?" Sarcasm, meet sarcasm! An an infuriating shit-eating grin. "Anything more to report on?"

Alyna just continues her icy stare in the direction of the Weyrleader as she blinks repeatedly. It takes several long moments before she clears her throat and shrugs her shoulders in the most nonchalant way she can manage. "No Sir. And if you require further information you will find it in my report. It is very thorough." This is uttered through a clenched jaw and lips pressed together in a thin line, and she reaches out hard to her green's mind, trying not to wince as she encounters the defening humming buzz of Haquith's mind voice. "Sorry Sir, I have to go, Haquith is finally rousing and I need to get up to my weyr." If he doesn't stop her in a couple of beats she will salute him stifly again before turning on her heel and striding quickly from the room.

Two can play the staring game? Va'os just holds Alyna's gaze in a steady manner and her answer just brings about a fresh grin. Only he isn't laughing, because while his expression may say so, the lack of amusement in his eyes says otherwise. "I'm aware," he replies bluntly. "And I won't keep you from Haquith. Though just a quick thing?" Said in a 'do me a favour' sort of tone. "Just gonna warn you this time round, but this whole attitude shit? Proddy or no? Not acceptable." He almost sounds like he'd have said 'cool' if he could get away with it. "So consider you and Haquith grounded until she flies. Which also means you're off this damn mess until further notice. I'm gonna have a nice chat with R'zel and Vani and we'll see if, oh… maybe a few days after she flies, if that can be lifted. Understood?" Va'os is braced for an argument… or a lack of one. Once all is said and done, he'll return that salute (a little lazily) and, with her folder still tucked away, go back to rummaging for what he was looking for prior to being interrupted.

Alyna just shakes her head and looks like she really wants to say something else, but decides it's wiser to bite her tongue. "Understood Sir." And without any further delay the greenrider makes her exit.
