Lake Shore

Sprawled out beyond the Weyr proper's hustling activity and ambling roads, the cool, blue paradise of the Weyr lake promises escape from the oppressive hammer of Igen summer's cruel climes; the asymmetrical, sandy white shores hook delicately around the deceptively still waters running deep and sure, greedy peninsulas reaching white fingers stretching in crooked lines towards its center. A sturdy shack, weather-beaten and brown as cured leather, resides in isolated splendor upon one such finger, screened shelving offering a variety of brushes and fragrant oils housed in colorful tureens. Out beyond a small and dusty paddock ringed by a white fence, a long rocky pier stabs out into the lake, providing a panoramic view of the Weyr itself, while the southern shores provide varied shrubs and grassed for the massed herds in their pens.

The weyr has gotten harder to navigate for Loranduth now, with his continued growth. Ja'un is more bemused than irritated at how long it takes to traverse the crowds before they get out of the central bowl. «I want to fly.» is Loranduth's complaint and Ja'un pats him sturdily upon the flank as they trundle down to the Lake Shore for recreation rather than training. Ja'un carries a leather satchel slung over his shoulder stuffed full of lunch.

It stands to reason that if the Weyrlings are on ‘break’, then the Weyrlingmaster staff are also! Today sees Miel trailing after a few of the more adventurous pairs, the greenrider wearing a bemused smile upon her features. Ivaenth is already in the water, lounging in the shallows and soaking up the sun. “If they want to go to the water, let them! We won’t have to worry about them drying off in time today.” she calls out to a few who seem hesitant on letting their draconic counterparts take part in swimming.

« I bet I swim better than you because you're big and you'll sink! » Flickers of light dart from one end of Reiyaseith's mind to another as the green gallops past the bronze who is complaining about flying. Khali runs after her life mate. She's managed to get some sleep and is as energetic as her partner today. "Yeah, what'll you do if he just sinks?" Teasing.

"Its al the muscle they're talking about, buddy." Ja'un says reassuringly to the larger bronze dragon. It isn't in time to stop sand from spraying this way and that from that swishing tail. «I do not sink. We will prove it.» Grumbly gravitas, bemused acceptance of the green's antics by now. "Scoot then. Go show'em what you're made of." Ja'un doesn't take to the water yet, content to lay out a towel and plop his bag on top of it first.

Ivaenth lifts her head up to watch, almost as bemused as her rider, as some of the weyrling dragons come down to the water. She doesn’t move from her spot, but she’ll observe them in half-dozed interest. This is break time, even for her and she won’t intervene unless the shenanigans get out of hand. Miel salutes to a few stragglers, before gesturing for them to join their peers or venture off on their own. “In a rush again?” she remarks, gently, to Khali as both she and Reiyaseith rush by. She’s thankfully out of the way from Loranduth’s sand spray, though it wouldn’t be the first (or last) time she’s pegged by sand, dirt or grit from growing dragonets.

"She doesn't do anything that's NOT at full speed." Khali says with a grin and comes to a halt shy of the water but close to Ja'un's side and says more quietly, "She doesn't really mean to be mean." As Reiyaseith darts and flings herself into the water. « It's cold! » shock causes a white streak of lights to dart from tree to tree.

Loranduth is a measure of reserved patience as he takes his time leaving Ja'un to Khali's mercy. "It isn't animosity. Its exuberance. She wants everyone involved with what she is doing. Paying attention to her." Ja'un does his best not to side-eye Khali as he passes judgement on her dragon…..or her. It might actually be hard to tell. The Bronze slides down into the water, claws digging into silt before pushing himself off, free to glide through the support with wide-spread wings over the surface.

"There's nothing wrong with that." Khali says, stung, crossing her arms on her chest as she side-eyes the bronze weyrling. "She's perfect." Reiyaseith dives under the water and then back up again, wordless as she just ENJOYS the experience. Not teaching the bronze more… yet.

Miel chuckles, for Khali’s sake. “They’ve all got their quirks and you’ll learn to adjust — or have, already.” There’s a hint of a wink there, with her gentle encouragement. Another glance to Ja’un, while she observes Loranduth briefly, but before she can speak again, another assistant weyrlingmaster is jogging up to her. From the way she frowns at whatever is hastily and privately spoken to her, there’s trouble somewhere. “… I’ll speak with him and calm him down. You got it covered here?” The two will swap places then, with Miel hurrying off without explanation and Ivaenth but a few seconds behind her.

(log incomplete, as I had to bow out at this point…)
