You're both no fun.

Ancient-cut stone stretches broad, smoothed by the wind and the weather and the rain to create a boisterous center of commerce. Wood overlays stone in places, patterned and pretty, to attract the eye of those traversing the strip to particular vendors. Though not the size of the tremendous markets of the North, the boardwalk's offerings show the knowledge of ageless crafters: Smith contraptions, Herder-certified animals, Starcraft maps and Weaver textiles are only some of the things that may be purchased, among the spicy scents of beach food and the contrast of bright shells and dark stones from the shoreline.

It's been a day of lazing about for Evka. She swam in the morning, had lunch with R'zel and the new Jr. Weyrwoman and spent the better part of the afternoon lazing about on the beach, improving her tan and just enjoying herself. Now however, she's somehow managed to get her friend Talya in her clutches and has subsequently dragged her to the boardwalk for some retail therapy. "Really, you've got to come see the booth that new merchant lady Taurie set up. Her booth stocks things from Igen, and some Zingari things too." Locked arm in arm with her fellow brownrider, she strolls the boardwalk.

In the few turns that Talya has been an official dragonrider, those free days were very welcome for her away from the dangers of Thread: to drink, to relax, to travel and explore… Shopping? Shopping was usually at the bottom of her list. Unfortunately for her, even Turahaimajusuth agrees with Evka that it is much needed. The brown put on his breaks and refused to leave until Talya brought home something new and special. "I like Taurie and all but can't we just go to Igen to pick something up? You know, get a change of scenery?" Yes, that's an honest whine right there. She probably had ulterior motives to get out of the Weyr too, like visiting old acquaintances at the desert Weyr and sampling new drinks.

Strolling through the throng of people is Novi. Her hair is still damp, and the skirt she wears over her swimsuit. Southern is still a very new experience for her, and she's still learning the about the pod. Novi pulls herself to a stop just in time to keep from bumping into the pair of riders.

Evka skitters to a halt when they nearly careen into Novi and let's out a soft expletive. "Sorry there. Didn't mean to near run you over!" Turning to Talya, Evka gives a sigh. "I would, but I've got to be up early early tomorrow and a trip to Igen means whiskey and a very late Evka in the morning." They can take a trip to Igen soon for sure, but tonight, they're home bound. Turning back to Novi, Evka smiles. "Been swimming?"

Talya gives a louder curse at the sudden stop of Evka, having been following glumly close behind the taller woman. "Busy for it being so hot out, ain't it? Look, you're going to trample all us short people out here," she tells her friend with a nod towards the apprentice and giving the stranger a smirk in greeting. Fellow short people, she completely understands that crisis. With a heavy sign, she finally has to agree, "You're no fun. You know that I gotta wake up early, too, but that hasn't stopped me from sampling a good drink." It probably has caused her to be late more often than Evka has. While her friend directs the question to the stranger, her own dark eyes roam towards the nearest booth and accessories. She has to come back home with something, after all.

Novi gives a nod, "Yes ma'am," she answers. Of course it's something she does a lot, "The fault is mine," as she wasn't really watching where she was going. Novi was supposed to help man the booth the Dolphincraft has set up, but she's having a difficult time finding it, "I'm sorry, I seem to be lost. I'm supposed to help watch the booth we have set up here," she smiles at Talya, "I'm Novi. Dolphincraft," she finally does give. Talk about being absent minded.

Evka offers a nod of her head in greeting. "Evka, of brown Saetyroith. Well met. I don't remember seeing a DolphinCraft booth, but we've only just got here and it's been awhile since I've shopped more than a booth or two here." She eyes Talya at the one booth, a smirk forming on her lips. "We can have a couple of drinks here!"

Talya studies the dolphincrafter silently, dark eyes moving up and down as if jotting it down to memory. "Dolphincrafters have a booth?" Talya looks between Evka and Novi, in obvious confusion, then shrugs one of her shoulders in answer to Novi. She's looking at Evka expectantly, but her face falls at the other brownrider's words. "I figured you'd be here most of the time," she comments in disbelief. "Do you even know where Taurie's booth is or who sells drinks?" Talya is starting to look skeptical. Eyes narrowing at Evka before she turns them onto Novi, face relaxing as she adds in an afterthought, "The name's Talya, brown Turahaimajusuth's rider."

"Well met ma'ams," Novi replies as she looks around. It is very likely that she's being pranked, "It's possible," likely even, "that one of my fellow apprentices is having a laugh at my expense," ah to be the low man and all that.

Evka remembers the days of playing pranks on one's fellows. To be so young again…. not that Evka is old or anything, but she's been younger. Evka rolls her eyes in a tease towards Talya and chuckles. "I usually am… but I was busy… and hermit-like for awhile there. Yes I know where her booth is! And that booth just over there sells drinks, and the Kitten isn't far off either." Novi is given a sympathetic look. "Would you like some help looking around, or to join us for a drink?"

"At least this trick is pretty tame, if they did lie to you for a laugh." Talya looks rather disappointed in these other apprentices if that were the case. "And none of that ma'am stuff with me, it makes me feel so sharding old you hear?" She gives a little shake of her head, starting to step away towards the booth that Evka notes serves drinks. "Trick or not, it's better to just come away and getting a few drinks instead. They can either laugh on their own while you're having fun or suffer tending a booth since they weren't nice enough to give you directions." This brownrider is definitely not one for following rules and being a good example to the rest of the Weyr. She looks back at them and jerks her head with a grin playing on her face. "Drink first, to get some lubrication in before the shopping torture begins."

Novi gives her wrist a light twist which sends her apprentice and senior apprentice charms tinkling one against the other, "So long as the drink for me is non-alcoholic," she's still an apprentice after all. Talya's comment earns a chuckle, after all Novi isn't one to worry too much about the 'what ifs' of a situation. Still she's going to play it safe and not drink anything stronger than fruit juice.

Evka nods. "Of course, I'm sure they serve juice or ices too." She chuckles at Talya and leads the way to the drink booth. They serve tavern style, so there is a bar and stools to sit upon. "What're ye havin'?" Comes the rough growl of the barkeep.

Talya makes a face at Novi and her charms. "You're both no fun," she says with a scowl to both of them now. "I don't remember following rules back when I was an apprentice." Which… Talya never was, and therefore it's a lie, but that's details no one had to point out. The brownrider is quick to steal the barkeep's attention to ask for a light ale, light and cold for the summer months. She at least is respectful enough to let the others handle their drinks, even if she does mime to Novi that her lips are sealed, and means that she won't tell a soul. With a wink to the barkeep as well to, you know, play along.

"Redfruit ice," Novi says as she seats herself. If she weren't positive that the information of her rule breaking would make its way back to her folks, Novi probably would have an ale.

Evka orders an orange ice with a healthy dose of rum. Turning to Talya she smirks. "I did my fair share of rule breaking too. But I didn't have a knot at stake, she does." She jerks a thumb at Novi then hums appreciatively as her orange spiked drink arrives. "We can't get these in Igen."

Talya looks disappointed at Novi when she asks for the redfruit instead, but she no longer says anything regarding it. Instead, she takes a good long drink of her refreshing ale, sighing happily and making a show of enjoying it. Then she's back to facing the crowds even as she answers Evka, "No, but there's still plenty at Igen that we could have been getting that isn't available here. I guess I have a few Turns on you still of enjoying what Southern has to offer, that it's real nice to be able to get away. If Tura would cooperate…"

Novi takes a sip of her own drink when it arrives, "My parents have spies everywhere," she says, "I can't risk them finding out I'm breaking rules," she'd be gone so fast people would wonder if she'd ever truly been at Southern in the first place.

Evka gives a look to Talya that plainly says see!! Evka knows what it's like to have parents like that. That doesn't stop her from shamelessly enjoying her own spiked drink however. It hits her pretty quick and she realizes she hasn't eaten anything since her early lunch.

"It's better to start separating yourself from the parents at around your age. Can't be that young…" But Talya is unsure now. Age is hard to determine on shorter people. "Maybe we'll be able to run into you some other time when there's less eyes around. If so, remind me I owe you a drink." The brownrider may not remember, especially considering the way she's downing down the ale. It's over too soon, and she sets the empty glass down on the bar with a markpiece. "Evka, I'm gonna browse to get an idea. I need to leave this boardwalk with something or Tura is going to throw a fit." The short brownrider gives Novi a nod as well. "Well met, and remember." Then with a wave she's shifting between people. The sooner she gets it done, the better.

Novi sips at her drink, as she looks around. The boardwalk is a place to explore when next she has time to do so. For now, she's going to have to finish her drink and scoot back to her studies, "I'm going to have to go soon. Studies, and a pod to learn names for."

Evka finishes off her drink and nods to Talya. She'll be joining her soon enough. Evka pays for the drinks and stands, if a bit wobbly. "Have fun tending to your studies. It was nice to meet you Novi." She then goes to find something breaded to eat before rejoining Talya down the line and shopping outrageously.
