Weyrling Training Grounds

Here, a wide and spacious field, devoid of all but more of the glare of ubiquitous, fine white sand of Igen: not even a blade of grass dares lift its head against centuries of clumsy draconic antics. To one side, ever-present firestone bins are set, kept supplied by many a hand, while agenothree tanks line the curving angle just outside the barracks, primed and ready for use. Very often, a glimpse of classes in session or dragonets at play may be caught under the open sky under the watchful eye of diligent Weyrlingmasters and older dragons.

By now, everything seems to be rather routine amongst the weyrlings. It's the same motions, over and over. Everything falls into place quite naturally, although the fascination of their new life partners have yet to die down. Off to one corner of the grounds, Selaine and Akitith are enjoying each other's company. Though the weather is warm, the day is much nicer without the blazing sun glaring down at them. "I swear… You don't seem to be growing that much but you sure are dry." the holdbred Harper-turned weyrling tells her green as she oils her hide. Said green is lounging rather happily, head resting on her forelegs as Selaine lathers and oils.

Though the young dragons do tend to tire quickly, that stamina is growing daily. Thankfully, Tokath knows better than to overdo it too much. Or at least A'sh does, and isn't about to let the blue run himself totally ragged. They're making a slow walk of it around the training ground area, with the young dragon stopping now and then to inspect some random bit of dirt or rock. It's /is/ all so fascinating. Coming up near the other weyrling pair though, he burbles out a rumbly croon greeting before his legs simply slide out from under him, splaying his blue self onto the ground. Ah. Dirt. Dirt and grass. So blissful. The former healer simply smiles a moment, and rather adoringly. There's a smile then for Selaine, tipping his head to her while sinking down to sit as well. "I think we're going to go through all the oil in the Weyr on this lot."

Akitith is more than content to be where she is at the moment while her clutchmates are off doing other things. She'll join them soon enough. Selaine's hands are constantly moving. Oil, rub rub, oil, rub rub. The blue's crooning receives one from the green, greeting her brother as he flops down nearby. « I'm oiling. » she tells him indignantly, opening one lazy eye to look at him and the dust that blew up around him. The young girl lets out a short laugh as she looks from blue to rider. "You would think." she replies, "Can you imagine how much they use on the bigger dragons, like a bronze?" Her eyes open wide, painting an image of the sheer size of them and just how much oil and time that would take.

Tokath's neck extends outward slightly, stretching, leaaaning as he peers more at Akitith..then jerks his head back with a startled sniff. « You..are? That doesn't… I mean..it doesn't sound healthy. They have people to check that. Are you leaking it? We shouldn't leak. I'm pretty sure we don't leak. » A'sh simply stifles a laugh, reaching out to rest his hand on the blue's neck lightly. "She's getting oiled." …Oh. Well that seems to relax Tokath completely. That makes sense. He does look over Selaine again though, smiling softly. "I can't even imagine. I feel a bit sorry for Mayte in that regard."

Both of Akitith's eyes open to swirl with amusement at Tokath. "You should've worded that more properly, dear." she tells the green, patting her hide where she's oiling. The green responsds with a huff of air through her nose, blowing away some dirt in the process. Selaine can't help but laugh at the two. There's a nod from her at the mention of Mayte. "Yea.. can you imagine how big she'll get?" There's a slight shudder, "I definitely don't envy her that."

A'sh shakes his head, and braces himself as Tokath begins to shift..partially into his lap. "You do realize you can't do this forever?" At seven feet long now, the blue is already getting a bit too big! Thankfully, he only really manages a leg and his head. It's comfortable! While looking terribly awkward. Still, A'sh smiles, leaning back on his hands somewhat to give the young dragon room. "I can't even imagine how big Tokath will get. Not yet anyway. It's amazing that they'll be large enough to ride."

Selaine chuckles at the sight of the blue attempting to get onto A'sh's lap. The green continues looking on, quite enjoying herself at Tokath's expense. "And he'll definitely be bigger than Aki here, that's for sure. But yea.. big enough to ride huh…. Imagine all the oil I'd have to use on you!" she tells the green, rubbing her hands on the green's hide affectionately. Akitith croons her response with a low rumbling in her throat that could only be interpreted as a laugh. "Laugh at me, will you!" The girl harumphs and puts her hands on her hips. "Well, I'm done oiling you anyway." She moves to go sit near Akitith's head, which is still quite small compared to her clutchmates. "Whew! But at least we won't have to oil them as often. They're just growing so fast right now…"

A'sh nods slowly, fingers trailing over Tokath's headknobs slowly. "Yes.. That is what they said, correct? It's all the growing that's making them need so much oil. After that stops…much less often." But how long does it take to oil a fully grown dragon? The young man winces just a bit at the thought. "I hope they allot time for that amongst all the other things to do. It sounds like it would take quite some time to get done…when it's needed." His head tilts though, looking back across the large training area toward the bowl beyond, and nods. "Soon enough we'll be able to go out and visit the other parts of the Weyr with them." See new things, smell new things. Ah, the wonder of it all. Tokath puffs out a sigh.

Selaine nods, "Yea, the rapid growth stretches out their hide so we have to oil it often so they don't get cracks." She winces slightly as she remembers when the weyrlingmasters had lectured them on the importance of it. "I would hope they do!" she replies, "Or at least… I'm sure we'll have time beyond our given duties. I see other riders doing it all the time, so it definitely shouldn't be a problem." The girl nods to herself, just for her own reassurance. When A'sh looks toward the bowl, Akitith looks, too and raises her head slightly to gaze beyond what they can see. She, too, wonders of the possibilities and lets out a small sigh. Selaine chuckles at the two dragon's wistfulness. "Soon, dear, soon." « Not soon enough. » Replies the green, receiving an eyeroll in return.

A'sh chuckles softly, shaking his head. "I'd be inclined to agree with Tokath on wanting to move about more, though I'm used to not having a very large area to go. There weren't a lot of places we could go at the healer hall. At least not in the beginning." Apprentices. Let them wander wherever they want and there'd be chaos! Fingers scratch lightly into Tokath's brow ridges though, earning a low thrumming trill from the blue. Definitely a good spot there!
"Oh I know how that goes. I lived in a hold before I came here and had been nowhere else before." Selaine says, following A'sh's suit to scratch Akitith in her current favorite spot, just under the jaw, Yes! There. Her eyes close contentedly. "I was quite overwhelmed when I first arrived, not to mention I was Searched only shortly after."

A'sh nods ever so slightly, lips curving upward even further. "Mm, I was brought in so close to the hatching it feels like I'm still trying to catch my breath." There's a slightly confused look for a moment then, before he glances down at Tokath who has…fallen asleep quite abruptly. "..Well. Looks like I'm here for a while." No chance of getting the blue to move now. "I'm used to Hold and Hall, still though. Once we're able to do more, I'm sure I'll fall in with it and catch up in learning."

"Yea, you did cut it pretty close." Selaine admits, glancing over at the now-sleeping Tokath with a grin. The sleepy mindvoice she's getting from Akitith tells her that the green is on her way to dreamland. "Easy enough to learn the most basic thing." she replies, "Salute everybody. Bottom of the chain, we are." There's a soft laugh from her as her hand stops moving now that Akitith has been confirmed to be sleeping. "They really do fall asleep anywhere, too." She shakes her head slightly, looking fondly at her partner.

"They do everything, everwhere." A'sh notes, with a bit of a sniff. Like poop. At least it's a rather loving tone. Even if cleaning up the mess is a bit gross, he wouldn't change it. Still, he sighs and lifts Tokath's head just a bit, giving the blue a small jostle. "Come on now. I know it's nice out here but there's plenty of time to sleep back at the barracks. Where I can, too." If Tokath is going to get some shut eye, the former healer deserves to get a few extra hours too! "Would you like to come back with us, or stay here?"

Selaine chuckles at A'sh's response. "Not wrong there." she adds, wrinkling her nose delicately at the thought. She tilts her head slightly as she watches her companion tries to wake Tokath. With a small yawn, she nods. "I think I'll join you. All that oiling's worn me out!" At that, she gets up and lightly prods the green with her mind as well as using her hands to jostle her lightly. "Come along, Aki."
