Brig

It's clean — that's more than can be said for most similar locations around Pern. There are sturdy bars to keep that which would try to leave, in; and sparce furnishing enough to keep those who would want to enter, out. Each private cell is equipped with a latrine and cot; the group cells contain bunks. There is no privacy to be found in the brig of Southern: only meagre are the comforts offered those who break the laws of the land.

Much to do when your a guard, doubly so when you are a recruit. Now if that recruit has ditched a day of work then well, life is going to get hard. Domnic is sadly has to 'watch' said recruit as they have to clean out the brig, because after the gold flight there is a plethora of strange smells and other things that need to be cleaned out. "Make sure you are drinking enough water, I am not cleaning you up if you pass out in there."

It was wishful thinking to assume a note from the Lynx Wingsecond maaay have been enough to escape a terrible punishment. Talya is just glad they didn't throw her out (though at the moment she probably wishes that they had). She's wearing the scummiest clothes she can find, probably some of the first she'd pulled out of the hand me downs in the caverns and has holes in it. She still gags as she cleans a particularly vile patch with the rag they gave her. "Why is it sticky?!" Cue dry heave. When she recovers she shoots Domnic a glare. "I'm going to pass out from the smell before I'd ever pass out from dehydration here. This is torture, you know. You'd think more people wouldn't have been able to show up after a goldflight." Poor sad Talya has to suffer alone, maybe the others have a different torture. She dunks the rag into a dirty water bucket, shuddering as she does so. She has to be down on her knees for this mess (maybe part of the punishment) but it really requires putting her back into it to wipe the scum off.

Domnic shakes his head "Most people show up for morning muster and then get let go. But they showed up." He says though he is sympathic to her plight, "go ahead and take a break." He sits down on a chair out side the cells slowly carving a piece of wood, look Tayla you can stab your self when he is done.

"Most people are able to /walk/," mumbles Talya more to herself in reply to Domnic. More loudly she adds, "You'd think they'd be lenient when a dragonrider— Wingsecond no less— explains it to them that I was incapacitated at the moment and helping them out. It's for the good of the Weyr and all." Because she was totally doing some duty or other in helping out a rider… Yep. That's her excuse. Because she's been binge drinking before and come in looking like hell and still able to get some PT done, if poorly. Purge and rally usually worked just fine for those days. The mention of a break has her dropping the rag immediately, but even as she stands with a painful groan she gives Domnic a suspicious look. "If this a test?" In case she really can't take a break, her eyes staring at the carving knife as she tries to stretch out kinks.

Domnic chuckles and shakes his head "It isn't a test, I have had to clean these cells more times than I think I want to remember." He leans back in the chair slightly "So what were you doing, I know what the rumors say but I figure I would give you the benefit of the doubt.." Because there are some interesting rumors to be sure! He hands her a mug of fresh water to drink waiting on her answer.

Talya quickly scuttles out of the brig cell once reassured that it is not a test. Two times is enough to be certain and she HAS to get away from that smell, though it still seems to remain on her when she leaves. She wipes her hands down on her nasty clothes before she stares at the full Guard. "Did you clean them out as a recruit or after you became a Guard?" Her eyes go from wide to suspiciously narrowed even as she takes the water from him. "Rumors, you say? There are actually /rumors/ about me?" Not that it wouldn't be a first. Cautiously, instead of answering, she dares to ask, "What are the rumors going around?"

Domnic nods at the question of cleaning "Both, so don't think you will ever really get a way from it." He raises an eyebrow at her, must of learned that form D'wane, "That you got caught up in that flight… That you just quit.. That you finaly went off and stabbed some drunk at the bar.." He chuckles and says "I honestly didn't believe the last one, you don't look the stabby type."

Talya rolls her eyes at all those rumors. "I'm more of a punching type of person, which is what I /wanted/ to do during Rhiscorath's flight." She finally chugs down on the water, no longer in fear of choking at some horrible rumor. She lets the cool water drip a little down her face… her hands are too disgusting to wipe the drips off. "I did what I said I did. Had to help one of the ranked riders and all that, as if I've lied to anyone here before." Hah. She considers her next words carefully, "So you weren't the best recruit around and still made it to Guard. You think I stand a chance?" Her eyes glance back to the punishment she is currently dealing with.

Domnic nods and gives her a reassuring smile "Trust me, I was the farthest from an ideal recruit. Giving my past and where I am from, you are doing just fine." He tilts his head a moment thinking "Just maybe don't miss muster, while you were helping out a rider which is a good thing, we still have a job to do. Though from what I have heard you are doing just fine."

"Oh, that's good." Talya actually relaxes visibly, tense shoulders dropping. She must have been really worried about that, considering missing a whole day of work only a little bit away from final examinations. "Don't think there are gonna be anymore gold flights any time soon, so there's no need to worry about that. You know, and riders that need help and stuff." Uh huh, smooth Talya. She finishes off the rest of her water in a second chug before dropping down to sit on the ground right where she stands and right next to Domnic. "It's been a long six months but at least it's almost over. You think I can request a bunk change after? Gorgo's snoring is a /nightmare/." That may be someone she'd be willing to stab if he keeps her up all night the day before examinations and makes her miss out on being a Guard.

Domnic chuckles "Probably after you make full guard you can ask. Just don't kill him in your sleep ok." Because they look down on murdering there own, even if said person needs his mouth sewn shut during sleeping hours. "So where are you from originally or are you a weyrbrat like most of the folks here?"

"I make no promises when I am subconscious." Talya proves just how little sleep she is getting by giving a big yawn right about then. The kind that comes with stretching and a wince from unhappy muscles. His question makes her tilt her head to him curiously, then reluctantly admitting, "Black Rock. I was working the docks there before I came to the Weyr. It helps with the heavy lifting I have to do and occasionally working with a runner to move stuff around, not so much the running and endurance and sword skills." Hence why she tries to put so many off hour time into working on those skills since she started being a Guard recruit. Weyrbrats were used to running all over the large Weyr. And because they're making small talk, she asks, "You?"

Domnic freezes for a moment when she says where she is from, he gives her more of a better look over. But he relaxes saying "Same actually, I worked for a few people. But decided to leave that life and start over here.." He isn't hostile to her but there is the clear he doesn't want to talk about it right now. He goes back to working on his little wood project before he says "Don't stress about stuff like that, as long as you know the rules and are willing to enforce them no matter what you will do fine. Integrity is the key here, if people can't trust your word they can't trust you and that reflects badly on the Weyr."

Talya gives Domnic a look up and down when he admits to being from the Seahold. She presses her lips down into a thin line, not quite so happy about her home Hold either. "Huh." Nothing to worry about, she wasn't going to pry anymore than that. IF she did, /he/ might, and that's a past she would rather tread lightly. She watches him from the corner of her eye, enjoying the break he has given her. "Yeah, I get that. And not take advantage as the rule enforcer as well. But still have to show 'em I got what it takes when the time comes." For all she knew, she'll trip and that was that. She gets up with that same groan from earlier and a whimper as she looks back to the mess. "It ain't gonna finish itself." She will actually get back to work without having to be told to (that's improvement!). "At least I don't have to suffer the smell alone."

Domnic nods and takes mental note of her adjust in her attitude as a self starter and he says teasingly "Guess helping that Wingsecond has rubbed off on you." He nods and chuckles "Well if you don't hurry it will be dinner time, and well I will leave you here to suffer because they are making my favorite herd beast loaf." He goes back to his carving as he keeps an eye on the lass but nothing out of the ordinary seems to happy.

"Maybe the faster I can get this finished, the faster I can get out of here and drink the smell away," Talya calls out from the cell. She's moved on from sticky to some easier cleanups. She will return to that battle at a later time! The mention of leaving her and, particularly, food, has her dry heave again. "You go enjoy your dinner, I ain't going to be eating anything after this." Drinking is not eating, it was a way of purging these nasties from her mind. And she'll be a diligent little worker for the rest of the time and beyond that, to make up for her missing day. Or maybe because she just wants to get out of here as fast as possible and not be forced back into this torture.
