Where once books reigned supreme, this open space is now dominated by a stalwart skybroom reaching to the sky through a broken ceiling. What was once evidence of collapse is now ornately carved with engraved ivy, matched by a clever contraption of stone that allows the gap to be closed in inclement weather. A small garden occupies the space around the tree-trunk, all manicured bushes and flowering shrubbery enclosed by a grated gutter. The walls are lined with bookcases, while a spiral staircase leans on the western wall to wind upwards to the second level. Tucked in the corners and scattered in the main areas are tables and chairs, cafe-style, and comfortably worn overstuffed armchairs. It is the perfect place for individuals to gather, to enjoy the offerings of the food-cart or a spirited conversation.

It is that wonderful evening time when most people go home and relax, or snog with their loved ones as the case maybe. But Lynx riders are always up to something it seems as Th'res has a few of the newer riders going over the latest sweep reports. He also seems to be drafting what looks like a very long letter to someone as he sits at the table directing the others.

Lynx riders might always be up to something, but this evening has M'noq doing anything but work. The last couple sevendays have been occupied by catching up with the current status of the wing's sweeps and drills. Evening is just about the only time he has to himself, so when he slips into the library, it's for a book that looks like it's more for entertainment purposes than work. He spots Th'res working, though, and swings by his table. "Th'res. I hope you aren't spending all your free time working."

Th'res chuckles and looks up saluting his wing leader "Not at all sir." He taps the letter he is writing "this is personal time, and they were asking about learning extra details." The look on the faces from the younger riders is one of concentration as they are working together to figure out the maps in front of them. Th'res leans over and whispers "I Gave them each an incomplete sweep map and they have to work together to make it whole." There is a very satisfactory grin on his face now.

M'noq looks over the young wingriders and then back to Th'res, nodding. "Very good. I hope you all find the project rewarding." There might be something else on his mind, though, as he runs his thumb along the spine of the small book in his hand. "And you? Have you been spending enough time doing relaxing things yourself? You and Jedameth need bonding time together too."

Th'res nods and grins "oh we are, he is loving this weather right now so we are flying every moment we can." Right now the blue is napping out at the bowl in the rain like a weirdo. He does look up and says "Actually sir, there was something I wanted to ask you, a favor of sorts..?" He looks rather apprehensive about asking but he has never been one to shy away from something.

"Of course," M'noq says, pulling out a chair and sitting down at the table opposite Th'res. He hesitates a moment then adds, "Be careful with so much flying in the rain. Don't catch a chill and end up getting sick. I don't know how some dragons don't seem to mind the rain, but I don't think riders are as immune to such things."

Th'res nods and grins "I will sir, I tend to make him land every hour or so, that way can come in and dry off." Because if he didn't there would be one less Wingsecond around. Th'res straightens up and says "Sir I was going over the roster and it seems we have a place for a few new riders. I was wondering if perchance we couldn't use some more experienced riders?"

M'noq gives his wingsecond a wry smile. "I'm always open to suggestions, provided the person you want is actually looking to transfer. Generally, it's easier to pick up riders when they graduate weyrlinghood, because you'll get someone who can learn our methods from jump. Who is it you have in mind?"

Th'res takes a deep breath and says "Veena, she is currently a watchrider for black rock." He holds out a report to M'noq "She was injured three turns ago. Though even this injury hasn't held her back from doing things like normal." He will wait for M'noq to make his own assessment before going on.

M'noq frowns a little. "I'm not familiar with Veena." But it's a big Weyr, there are a lot of people he doesn't know personally. "Is she looking to get into a fighting wing, after three Turns as a watchrider? Managing day-to-day activities is a different sort of thing from being able to fly Thread," he says, trying to be gentle in these words but still express concern.

Th'res nods and folds his hands in front of him "I know that. But she may never fly it again if all she does is watch ride. Those instincts will only dull as time goes on." He exhales and looks at M'noq. "I don't know what but I have this feeling she is meant to be more, and that she should at least have the chance to prove it to herself and to others. We aren't high fliers in this wing we are smart fliers. That is what you showed me, what I have been teaching to the others, she has a lot of drive."

M'noq gazes off into the middle distance for a moment as he considers this. Finally, he looks back to Th'res. "Threadfall is demanding. I don't want her life cut short by decades just because she wants to try to fly Thread again. If you bring in someone who can't pull their weight, it puts the whole wing at risk. There are many other ways to have value in the Weyr besides flying Thread." Then he sighs. "But I'm willing to meet with her and see what she is interested in doing."

Th'res grins, better than he was hoping for as he expected an outright NO. But hey they say everyone deserves a second chance, and Lynx seems to be the land of lost causes turning their life around. "I will let her know you want a meeting, when is good for you? Because I know your busy with the catching up as well as balancing things on your own."

"Send her around or have her drop me a note," M'noq says. "As long as we're not in drills or flying thread… or I'm not in a meeting, or sleeping, probably…. Well, you get the picture." He hesitates then gives Th'res a serious look. "You know this is her fight, right? She will have to prove what she can do and what she wants. I'm probably going to want a Healer's recommendation as well."

Th'res nods and looks back just as serious "I know it is. But she needs the chance to try, to show to herself and others where she is. That is all I am asking, is the chance for her to get a shot." He then gives him a lopsided grin "Besides, she can't be worse than F'kan was."

M'noq seems to muse on that suggestion for a moment. "F'kan was definitely a challenge. Moreso because I knew K'vvan had worked with him for months without success. But his was a mental issue. I just want you and her to know that not all physical limitations can be overcome. It doesn't mean someone can't be useful or accomplish many challenging things. I just don't want you two to get up to unrealistic expectations. I assume she was sent to be a watchrider instead of returning to her fighting wing for a reason."

Th'res nods and steeples his fingers again "There probably was, but I wanted to talk with you about it before talking with her. She doesn't even know we are having this conversation, because I didn't want to fan the fires of false hope." He looks down at the black leathers he wears and nods "I know she won't be like she was, and maybe she isn't cut out for Thread anymore but that needs to be something she can see on her own. Not just have someone tell you that you are done and push you away."

M'noq just considers this and nods. "Fair enough. But don't you try to push her into something you want for her, just because you think she needs it. If she wants more to do, perhaps she could do something with Lynx in our mapping project or somesuch, without flying Thread. I'll keep an open mind, but she's going to have to convince me she needs a change here." Then he gives his wingsecond a pointed look. "Now, as for you. I hope you have other plans for this evening besides just sitting here, working."

Th'res grins and nods "That is all I can ask Sir." And when the brown riders gaze is slanted at Th'res he just chuckles "No sir, I got a batch almost done I need to Jar then there is our nightly rounds of Jedameth looking in on all his friends before bed." He gives the senior rider a wing and a silly grin "And your welcome that I have him check in on his golden clutchsister in the afternoon instead of the midnight he seems to think she likes."

M'noq gives a laugh. "To be honest, if you're waking Zymuraith, Amani, or me up at midnight, it may not go well for you or Jedameth." A pause and he shrugs. "Ravaith might not mind all that much. He'd just send you both bad to bed." The he lifts his book and wiggles it. "I'd better get this checked out and then head back. Drills first thing tomorrow," he reminds, no doubt unnecessarily. Th'res probably set the schedule.

Th'res grins and nods "I didn't know you two were still entertaining each other. I will have to remember that for later." He reaches for a mug of Klah to sip from as he says "See you in the morning Boss."
