"Why yes I am, though I am wondering if they don't teach proper Etiquette to young weyrlings these days?"

Garden Terrace

Tucked-away and bejeweled, here is a hidden treasure of Southern, beckoning and beguiling those who may trod the entrance of weyrbridge: steps cut upwards, switching back and outer-railed, to terminate in a sheltered ledge of stone. Here, greenery blooms in fragrant profusion, scenting the air and quieting the minds of those who stroll amongst the cultivated rows of cultivars. Flowers, and tiny fruit-bearing trees limn the walkways. Tables and benches scatter organic throughout the rambling concourse, providing easy rest for those who challenged the stairs… or the craft shops beyond the scrolled wooden door at the innermost part of the terraced ledge.

It is the forty-ninth day of Winter and 43 degrees. The day is dreary and overcast. A chilly winter rain is falling down in soft drizzles.

Another cold morning at Southern, as the soft drizzles of rain keep most people indoors huddling next to there fireplaces some brave few are out enjoying the weather and the quiet. The red headed wingleader of Lynx is one such person. Wrapped in that multi-colored long odd scarf of his he sits at one of the tables on the Garden Terrace having a mug of something steamy while he reads over sweep reports.

It's a good thing Xanthee is all bundled up in her riding leathers, because the cold drizzle is a shock after the bright summer morning she left back in Igen. But it's her rest day, and she decided to spend it with friends. Liowyth is off to explore as she's done the few times they've come to Southern either visiting, or, ferrying people or things. Her destination on this morning, is the beach. It's so much different than the Lake back at Igen. For her part, Xan is a little early for her lunch with Evka and Amani, but that just means extra shopping time! So she's just headed to the Craft Shops, via the Garden Terrace when she spies a familiar redheaded bluerider and decides on a detour. Creeping up as quietly as she can, she only speaks up when she's right next to him. "Working hard Th'res?"

Having a dragon that specializes in the unexpected pranks has trained the bluerider to keep from jumping out of his skin when surprised. With a smile Th'res says "Why yes I am, though I am wondering if they don't teach proper Etiquette to young weyrlings these days?" He sips his Klah looking at Xan waiting to see if she is going to explode at him or not..

Xanthee stands up straighter, the smirk on her lips deepening before snapping off a very crisp salute, "Wingleader, sir." she says formally, with emerald eyes dancing with mirth. "My apologies, sir, don't want you to think Igen's standards are slipping." Without waiting for an invitation, she slips into a chair across from him before running fingers through her damp raven locks before rubbing them together through her gloves. "So why with the working outdoors?"

Th'res nods and returns the salute as the young woman sits down. He answers her question with a grin "Because it is a lovely day, and if I wasn't a wingleader now and in charge I would be off with jed playing at the snow up at the Barrier Hold." He gives a dramatic sigh "But alas I am but a slave to the Weyr." Lifting his mug to his lips to hide the teasing grin he askes innocently "What brings the weyrling Wingleader back here? Igen getting to hot for you these days?"

Looking around herself at the grey skies and that insistant drizzle, Xanthee raises a speculative eyebrow. "You and I have very different opinions on what a 'lovely day' is." she chuckles as she burrows her face into the high collar of her jacket. "Yeah…I only did snow the once. I never did get to the Southern Barrier in my time down here…I should rectify that." Leaning back in her chair, she hooks one elbow over the seat's back casually, "Rest day visit to Amani and Evka. So much more convenient to get some girl time when we all have our own rides."

Th'res laughs "Well don't go and burn down the Weyr you three. But it is good that you are here to visit, gets Amani out of all that stuffy office work she has to do." He sips his Klah before putting the mug down on the table. With a slight lean forward he props his elbows on the table and interlocks his fingers to make a resting place for his chin as he says "And how are you doing lately? Gone off to see your beau yet?"

"As if! Now that Amani's got the big knot, we need to help her let her hair down just a little bit," Xanthee replies with a grin as her fingers reach out to idly trace over the edge of the table. His lean forward is observed with interest, but his question has her smile brightening and eyes twinkling subtly. "Fantastic. Almost graduated, really excited to see which wing taps me. Settled in a ground weyr right off the Lake which is just perfect. And Mal…" she pauses as her cheeks pink up a little beyond the cold as she drops her gaze down to her wandering fingers, "Well, he's moved in. Things took some adjustment…but we're as good as ever."
Th'res grins and presses the attack "Moved in? That is a big step. I hope you two are following your healers suggested treatment course, or are you two talking about families?" What is the point of having a little sister type friend if one can't tease them.

"Oh? Didn't you know? We'd been living together for almost two turns before I got Searched this time," Xanthee remarks with a grin, "But yeah, that was always temporary, now, we're making our home." Xan's smile is slightly dewey as she sighs before looking back at Th'res with a snort. "Mal and I have been together for over three turns now. Never a scare. And not that it's any of your business, but no…growing our family is going to have to wait a bit."

Th'res chuckles "Aww well I guess I can hold off on sending a cake then." He leans back in his chair slightly, lounging or what could be lounging if he wasn't always so ridged in posture. "How is your lifemate? I have only heard bits and pieces of reports about your weyrling class." He sighs and pinches the bridge of his nose before adding "and JEd wants to know if you have any shiny stones from the desert with you."

The cake comment gets a puzzled look, but it does remind Xanthee that she should try and see her half-sister while she's here. Th'res's asking after Liowyth makes her smile even brighter still as she taps her fingers on the tabletop in front of her, "Liowyth is fantastic. My big girl is creeping up on some of the smallest blues at Igen, and the weyrlingmasters don't think she's done growing yet." There's a beam of pride from the girl as her chest swells a bit. "And even with the little bit of leadership we've done, I couldn't ask for a better lifemate. She makes friends with every dragon she meets.." Xan trails off as a faint shadow crosses her features for a brief moment. She's quickly distracted with Th'res' next question though and she cuckles with a little shake of her head, "Unfortunately I don't. Tell him sorry."

Th'res chuckles and nods "Yeah reminds me of another dragon I know…" Yes Jedameth we are talking about you! "He says that is ok he will just have to come and visit soon as he is done on his time out.." He does catch that shadow and reaches over to poke her in the forehead saying "You are worring about something, it gives you a wrinkle right there."

The similarities between Jedameth and Liowyth are not lost on Xanthee, who answers his observation with a wry smile. "Well if you do come visit, I'm sure Liowyth would show him around." Xan responds idly before the bluerider pokes her, causing her to wrinkle her nose further. "Yeah well…we just had the mating flight lesson. I'm not as bad off as some, as least I'm not some virgin. But…" she trails off with a sigh, "I'm sure it's just the anticipation of the unknown."

Th'res ahhs and nods reaching into his jacket pocket to pull out a small bag of sweets offering it to the raven haired girl "Well you are better off than some of us were." He puts the bag on the table between them before adding with a kind smile "Don't worry so much about it, you will still have your Mal."

Xanthee will gladly take one of those sweets and pop it into her mouth when offered. She smirks a bit for Th'res' response even as she narrows her eyes on the bluerider. "Since rectified I hope." Xan teases as well as pries just a little bit into her friend's life. She goes after another sweet with a grin, and nods, "That's true, I will at that. But we've already run into some sticky subjects we didn't even know was going to be an issue, it's…just me being cautious I guess. It's going to be a test that's for sure. And I hope we pass it well."

Th'res nods and reaches for his klah "Yes yes it has." He takes a drink of the still warm liquid before adding "I am sure you will, just remember to trust each other and not to go jumping to conclusions before you have all the facts." He watches her now before adding "Are you still avoiding my wingman?"

Xanthee chuckles at his first as she shakes her head a little bit, "Well that's good at least." And no other comment on that. Stuffing her hands into her pockets to warm them, she nods at his advice with a smile, "Yep, that's what we're trying to do. It's proving more difficult in practice than theory, but we're committed." The resolve is clear in her features. His last does have her blinking a little bit, trying to figure out exactly who he means. Mouth drops into a small O when it finally clicks, "Oh…him. I'm not avoiding him." She retorts a little testily. "I just hope I never have to see him ever again. And if I do, I don't have anything to say to him." She trails off with a shrug as if it's as simple as that.

Th'res nods and sips his Klah again before saying "I understand, it takes a long time for people to let go of hurt and hate." He gives her a knowing half grin "But I am sure he is busy now that he is weyrmated and all that so I doubt you will see him." He reaches over and pats her on the head "You are going to be a fine Wingleader someday, after weyrlinghood that is."

Wrinkling her nose again and looking a little indignant at that pat on the head, Xanthee narrows eyes at the bluerider in playful warning. "It's not about letting go, I let go long ago. But I'm not forgiving him. I know you've said before he wants to apologize, but I can't forgive him Th'res. I don't care that he's weyrmated, I guess good for him, but he's an asshole, and nothing he can say or do is going to change my mind on that." When her voice gets a little heated, she takes a feep breath to steady her. "Please, don't bring him up to me again. I'm asking you as a friend." Once that's done, his last has her chuckling wearily, "Yeah, I'm looking forward just to be in a regular fighting wing and finding our groove before I start to think of leading again. I'm honored they thought of us, but…had the first bad score of one of my wingmates under my leadership last seven. It was a shit show, a freak storm made things impossible." she shakes her head again, "He'll live, they both will, but…That's a huge load to carry." She admits before looking back up at him.

Th'res nods leaving talk of that brown rider in the past and looks down at his mug "I understand that all to well. I was thinking of just being a normal rider too, then M'noq tapped me for wingsecond. you never know what the universe has in store for ya." He idly runs a finger over the rim of the mug adding softly "I am glad your wing is still in tact though, as there are some things worse than bad marks. And it is a weight you will never let go.." He as to forcibly shake himself out of the dark thoughts that have cropped into his mind as he pickes up another sweet from the bag.

"Well, That's true, you never know," Xanthee muses in reply, even though she highly doubts that she will be walking the same path as her friend, at least not yet. "And now you're Wingleader. I couldn't think of anyone better suited. You'll wear the knot well." She predicts with a nod. Next though, she sobers, sympathy written over her features plainly. "I'm so sorry you had to deal with that. Faranth forbid we remain intact through to graduation. I…I don't think I'd handle that well." she says, the last bit barely above a whisper.

Th'res shakes his head and gives a bitter laugh "I am sure you would handle it better than I did, you love and live with your heart out there for people to see. So you will have a people ready to offer things to you like comfort and affection." He pats his chest slightly "I am still wrapped in my stone layers so it is hard for me to do that. I think that is why I have Jedameth, he helps me express my self better."

"Wow, that's kind of poetic Th'res," Xanthee looks impressed and a little surprised at the same time. "I'm thrilled that you have such a high opinion of me, truly. I just hope we never have to find out who would have handled it better." She agrees with his last, "If anyone can break through those layers, it's that blue of yours. And maybe a special lady…perhaps a certain brownrider…" She's not too subtle, is Xan. At that moment, her little gold Selkie pops in from between with a warble and a mental image of Amani and Evka heading towards the Living Caverns. "Well, I have to get going. But we need to see each other more than a couple times a turn ya know. It'd be nice." She rises with another sharp salute before ambling off towards the stairs downwards.

Th'res chuckles and salutes as Xanthee leaves "Yes we will, Jedameth will be very sad if he doesn't get to meet your lifemate before you leave." After the visiting rider leaves he goes back to his work reaching for the bag of sweets again before saying to the air in general "Such a lovely day today.."
