Beach

An eerie mirror, the glass-quiet Sea of Azov: the clear waters stretch along the dark-pebbled shores, and along this narrow beach. Here the faintest lap of waves belies the calm beyond; here the rocks have been ground down into finest, softest sand - those observant would mark upon the similarity between it and the sands of the hatching grounds. The soft sand soaks up summer sunlight as a sponge; painfully hot during the warmer months, it is only truly pleasant at wintertime. Rocks rise to east and west, lichen-limned and green against the abyssal darkness of stone.

It is the sixty-seventh day of Summer and 105 degrees. It is sunny and bright. White fluffy clouds drift lazily across the china blue sky.

The day is hot, humid and getting closer to midday when a gem-bright emerald green pops out of ::between:: above Southern Weyr's Beach. Her pale oversized wings gleam in Rukbat's intense glare, as she lazily circles down for a landing on the hot sand. From her neck, her raven-haired greenrider surveys the area for any familiar faces, human and draconic alike as she dismounts, pulling Liowyth's straps on her way to the ground. Quickly she sheds her riding leathers, revealing a strappy sundress in a bright sunny yellow underneath, and makes a small bundle of them with the riding straps, and tucks the whole into a pack she brought just for this purpose. Once she's shed her boots however in favor of some sandals, the heat of the sand is nearly unbearable, and she hops and skips to the water's edge where the lapping waves cool the wet sand, sighing with relief when she gets there. « Where are they? You did tell them we were coming right? » her green asks, eyes turned towards the Weyr proper, whirling between blue and green. I'm sure they will be here soon, we're just a tad early. Why? So eager to see Saetyroith again? She teases, although she knows Lio's maiden flight is all but forgotten at this point by the green.

Zymuraith, of course, is never late. She arrives precisely when she means to, and how she means to. In this case, it's with a burst of cold air preceding her from between as she appears over the beach, a short glide bringing her and Amani in to land not far from where Liowyth and Xanthee have come to rest. « Greetings, Liowyth, » the Southern queen says with a rumble, a shower of green and pink sparks spilling over the edges of her bonfire bowl as the sweet scent of caramel and cocoa wafts across to the green. Amani, clad in a sundress of deep wine red with her hair pulled back and a broad-brimmed hat shielding her from the sun, makes her way to the water's edge as well, her own sandals in hand as she calls to get her friend's attention.

Evka is coming! She and Saetyroith are making their way up the beach, on their way back from the cove. Evka is in her favorite colour, a burnt orange one piece with a matching sarong skirt. Her sandals hang loosely from one hand as Saetyroith trails behind her. The pair seem at ease and soon enough, a hailing trumpet rises into the air when Saetyrioth spots the two other ladies and their lifemates. «Such gems shining in the southern sun. Greetings Liowyth, Zymuraith!» He's trotting ahead then, whilst Evka shades her eyes and grins at the brown, mentally rolling her eyes. His determination to go flirt with her best friends' lifemates is chuckle worthy. She waves a greeting, that having to do until she's caught up and able to speak. "Hey there!"

Liowyth trills an excited greeting to both gold and brown, rising on her hindquarters and fluttering her pale wings excitedly, her youthful excitement on display. « Zymuraith! Saetyroith! It's SOOOOOO much nicer here than at Igen right now, it's soooo cold…But Xanthee tells me it happens every Turn… » she trails off, a bit of a pout in her bubbly mindvoice as the clouds of her mind take on a frosty appearance, several elongating into puffy pink icicles. « But the weather is wonderful here, we should go swimming, or explore, or find a nice spot to sun ourselves..or… » She could go on, but Xan shoots her a bit of a look before turning to her own friends and waves both hands in their directions. "Greetings ladies! You both look stunning as always," she replies and waits for them to get close enough for a proper greeting.

It doesn't take Amani long to get close enough, hugging Xanthee warmly before turning to do the same to Evka. "So do you. The three of us could be dangerous, if we wanted to," she quips with a mischievous glint in klah-dark eyes. "Or maybe we already are." In the meantime, Zymuraith croons softly at Saetyroith, patient with his flirtations as always, and rumbles a draconic chuckle at the young Igen green. « The water is perfect, if it's a swim you want. The dolphins may be about to help with exploring, too, » the gold explains as she walks into the water. Amani watches them for a moment before turning her attention back to the other women. "Need some time to thaw out before anything else, Can?"

Evka exchanges hugs where given and grins. "Dangerous would be an understatement if we really put our minds to it." A wink is sent to both of them before she turns to see Saetyroith following the two females to the water, his inner vineyard becoming a swell of pagan frivolity. "I say drinks are in order! We'll quench our thirst and the liquor will help thaw Xanthee out." Some of that old mischief shining, Evka wraps Xanthee up in a side hug and hints at moving toward the boardwalk.

"Well I still have time to have some fun before Malosim makes an honest woman of me," Xanthee replies with a giggle before getting caught up in hugs with her friends. She can feel a lump briefly rising in her throat at the regret that they don't all live in the same Weyr, but it does make moments like these all the sweeter. The greenrider wisks any negative thoughts quickly away as her smile brightens and emerald eyes sparkle as she clasps her hands in front of her and shakes her head emphatically in Amani's direction, "I can think of no better way to thaw out than some shopping on the Boardwalk….oooh, and drinks!" she adds at Evka's recommendation. She links her arm around Evka's waist and then holds a hand out for Amani should she want it and decidedly makes for the boarkwalk. Liowyth bounds lightly into the water with a multitude of pink bubbles bursting from rose colored clouds in her mindscape.

"Somehow, I don't think that's going to stop you later on, either," Amani counters Xanthee's first, taking the green rider's hand and then hooking it through her arm. Now they're all moving along as a chain! There's a hum of agreement to Evka over the matter of drinks, though she shakes her head a little at the same time. "So long as we have food to go with it. It's early yet," she points out, glancing toward the Boardwalk. "Shopping for certain things for a certain day, I'm guessing?" is asked with a sly look toward Xanthee. A brief glance is given toward the water as their lifemates head off for a swim, just to track their direction for the moment before leaving them completely to their own devices.

Evka hums her own agreement at mention of food. "I could eat a runner right now, so you won't find me disagreeing." Her eyes narrow on Xanthee when Amani poses her shopping question. Yes. Evka is eager to know too. She swings them into a bar booth where they offer drinks and simple fair such as wraps and sandwiches and small fried foods. The bar wraps all the way around the booth so one can watch their drinks and their food being made. The brownrider slips onto a barstool and flags the attending barkeep who signals them to give him a moment.

"You're probably right. If I change too much after getting weyrmated, Mal might think he's gone and made a mistake," Xanthee pokes fun at her long time beau easily and with all the love she has apparent in the way her features soften just thinking about him. The idea of food with drinks is given a nod of approval as well before Amani's second question brings a mischievous twinkle to the greenrider's eye just as they get to the little bar booth Evka leads them toom. Unhooking herself from her friends, she takes up a stool with a little bounce and shimmy to settle herself. "Well…we haven't set an exact date yet, but it will be sometime in the spring, so time is a factor. I've scoured the shops of Igen's Bazaar for dresses and nothing…" she forstalls any comments from Evka by pre-emtively holding up a hand in her direction, "And yes, I know Timotin is amazing, but he's just not quite what I'm looking for," Xan shoots a warm look in her friend's direction, genuinely happy to see hints of the old Rev back.

Amani chuckles, knowing full well that Xan pokes fun at Malosim out of love - a love that is readily evident on her friend's face and brings about a soft, knowing smirk. She settles on a stool to Xanthee's left, smiling at the bartender in turn and considering what seems most appetizing. She does, however, look a little surprised at the greenrider's assessment of Timotin's work. "I'm sure if you give him details, he'd be able to make it, even if it means veering off from Zingari style," she opines. "But there's some interesting stuff in the shops, if you want to go look around there later." She looks past the greenrider to Evka, a brow arched curiously. "Any recommendations?"

Evka chuckles. "Even I know Timo isn't the lord of weaving, but Amani is right, he could probably pull something off." As to the query aimed her way…. "There's a few booths that are promising and Taurie ships in from more than just Igen. She's got some beautiful things in from Benden and Fort and Reaches right now. I bartered for a lovely fur-lined get up the other day and now I won't freeze the next time we decide to go for //good.. klah up at the barrier." When the barkeep make shimself known, Evka orders an orange ice with a healthy dose of rum and a basket of fried avian and fried tubers.

"I'm sure he could, but the problem is, I don't have a clue as to what I want. I'm going to know it when I see it, but I just haven't yet," Xanthee remarks as she looks over the food choices herself and orders herself something fruity and tropical looking to drink, that's actually what she says to the barkeep, who raises a weary eye but doesn't question since the Senior Weyrwoman is right there, as well as a green salad with some grilled chicken and light dressing. "That's the plan, browse the boardwalk and the shops, try and see if anything calls to me…" she trails off with a shrug, confident enough not to seem to worried and intent on enjoying her day.

Amani's expression is wry as she nods. "I guess I know how that goes," she answers before ordering herself a variation on the Kitten's Spiky Mango and some cheese-smothered flatbreads. The glint of Xanthee's ring catches her eye and she turns a bit to inspect it more closely. "I can't imagine what he's going to come up with for rings. That one's so gorgeous as it is," the goldrider notes with a smile and a little sigh before relaxing back again. Another glance over to Evka. "I'll have to have a look at what she's got in myself. I can always use something else to wear at the Barrier." Or just when it's cold in general. It's probably clear by now that she doesn't handle the cold very well!

Evka chortles at Amani's exclamations over Xan's ring. "You'll have every woman in Igen envious over your jewelry, and your man." It's no secret Mal's a looker. As for winter gear, Evka has comments on this. "Get something lined with feline fur, it stays deliciously warm." Evka's drink arrives first, and she takes a decent pull off it before setting it aside with a satisfied smack of her lips. "Delicious. So … are you just looking for a dress, Xan? Or what does under the dress too?" She winks playfully then, unable to resist a jab at the naughty. It feels good to tease light heartedly.

Xanthee has no problem propping her elbow up on the bar and putting her hand with Mal's ring on display for her friends to get a better look, pride seemingly radiating off her as cheeks burn at her friends' compliments of her beloved. "Trust me, I thank Faranth every second or every day that I managed to catch his eye before anyone else could get their hooks in him, I am well aware of what a catch I've found in that Miner of mine." Staring down at the delicately wrought leaves and the perfectly cut emeralds, she tilts her head to one side a bit with a sigh, "Whatever he comes up with, guaranteed it will take my breath away as usual."

"Definitely a catch," Amani agrees, nodding her thanks to the bartender as her drink arrives. She takes as sip, sighing gently with approval before prodding Xanthee's shoulder. "You didn't answer Rev's question, though," she points out with a smirk. "Just a dress, or other things, too?"

Evka waggles her eyebrows at Xan whem Amani prods her about Ev's earlier query. "Yeah. What else are we shopping for today?" Surely a weyrmating requires more than a simple dress! She chuckles and drinks down a bit more of her rum imbued drink and then her food has arrived! Fried deliciousness that near has her mouth watering. Just something about bar food.

Jaw dropping as Amani points out her inadvertant rudeness, Xanthee swivels towards Evka and apologizes profusely, "I am so sorry, I wasn't ignoring you, just, so much going on with the planning and just being a rider on top of everything else, and my head is rather spinning." Looking down as her salad and drink are placed in front of her, she eyes Evka's fried food wistfully, but picks up her fork and digs into her healthier option with relish. The drink is a fruity afair, with both juice and a couple skewers stacked with cubes and slices of even more fruit, served in a large stemmed glass. Xanthee's eyes light up when she sees it. "I envy you all Southern's fruit trees," she remarks with a giggle before fialyl answering Evka's suggestive question, "I was thinking maybe getting something that could be.." curling her fingers into air quotes, "…unwrapped and revealed the night of…but it's mostly pointless sicne anything inspiring I might wear just inspires him to take it off me all the sooner, so what's the point?" Her giggles are a little muffled as she carefulyl puts her lips to the rim of the glass and takes a careful sip.

Amani is trying not to laugh as Xanthee does her best to smooth over her "slight" to Evka, knowing that the brownrider isn't going to take it as any such thing. Her own food comes in the meantime - not as healthy as Xan's salad but not fried, either. "I think it's the inspiration that's the point," she notes before taking a bite of cheese-slathered flatbread with a satisfying crunch. She doesn't talk with her mouth full, finishing her mouthful before continuing on. "Right? The journey can be just as fulfilling as the goal, so…what goes underneath just makes it that much more fun. For him, I'm guessing; I know that's probably not true for everyone."

Evka waves off Xanthee's apology, Amani's predictions being right. Evka takes no offense. She washes a bite down with some of her drink and chuckles. "What Amani said, the journey is half the point. Get something that will make him drool, even if you only wear it for two seconds after he sees it." She winks at Xan and gives an appreciative smile to Amani.

"I suppose you guys are right…Just don't want to spend too many marks in case it doesn't even make it to two seconds…" Xanthee trails off suggestively, lower lip catching in her teeth, as she gets momentarily lost in thoughts about the events that will be coming after the weyrmating instead of focusing on the main even which is why she is here today! With a brief shake of her head, the greenrider takes a couple hearty bites of lettuce and other veggies with a piece of chicken and plenty of the dressing. "So we'll do around here first then the shops? Where does this Taurie work out of?" she asks curiously before going after another sip of her drink.

"Well, it might not make it to two seconds…but this is something special," Amani says to Xanthee's first, a light blush naturally answering the suggestive tone her friend takes as she smirks, dark eyes glinting rather impishly as she grins back at Evka. As for the matter of Taurie, she gives a little shake of her head. "Taurie doesn't really work out of any one place. She's my assistant, so ends up out and about a lot. But she should be easy enough to track down. After here and the shops, of course."

Evka nods. "Aye, we'll check all the booths and shops here first." Seems like everyone is in agreement here. As for Taurie, well, that makes Evka smile as Amani answers the question. "She does have a booth on the boardwalk, but it is easier to order from her directly. She's also a Merchant….or an heir to a Merchant…or both, I'm not quite sure, but it seems like she has her fingers dipped in everywhere." Evka scarfs down some more fried food, washing it down with the last of her fruity ice drink, which she waves at the barkeep in an attempt to get a refill.
I don't understand that.

"I guess it is special at that," Xanthee muses, her smile broadening and her cheeks pinking up as she ducks her head a bit to concentrate on eating. She listens though to her friends as they fill her in on this person she's never met, raven brows creeping up with each new fun fact they share. "Sounds like an interesting woman, looking forward to meeting her," Xan replies after she'd once more cleared her mouth, "But I can't promise I won't be secretly judging her assistant skills…You deserve the best help you can get. Although.." she turns towards Amani, "I hear you have some newly arrived help in the form of a new Junior. Tell me all about that…and her…and how things are going." When there's fresh gossip to be had, you better believe Xanthee is going to sniff it out.

There's a quirk of Amani's brows, a silent "ah" as Evka reminds her about Taurie's booth. At least they have an easy spot to start looking while they're out here now! Then comes a chuckle for Xanthee's admission that there will likely be some judgment going on. "I would have asked Rev. But then she had to go and Impress," is countered with a wink to her brown riding friend. It's a situation she'd have no other way, all things considered. The goldrider nods over the matter of the new junior. "Treista, from Telgar. I like her, though I'm still getting to know her. And…I don't think I've met a taller woman in all my life!" is added with a light laugh. What more there may be to tell, she'll gladly continue with as they sit and finish their food, and more as they walk along perusing everything for something that will, hopefully, jump out at Xanthee for her big day.

Evka chuckles as Amani and Xan chat, winking back at Amani when she mentions the assistant thing. "Well, I'm sure things worked out the way they were supposed to. And Taurie seems to be doing well in her position. I couldn't handle the workload that woman puts on herself." She brightens when talk of the new goldrider begins, as she hasn't heard much of her and hasn't met her yet. She probably goes on to ask just how tall the woman is because she's heard the woman is a virtual giant. It's fun to sit and gossip and drink with her friends, something that hasn't happened in far too long and it warms Evka, to have such a normal moment. Shopping is a therapy all in it's own and she has fun just letting go and doing their thing,.
