Hallway

A connection between the bowels of the weyr and the heart of the leadership, this hallway sweeps along a majority section of the inner section of the weyr: the residential quarters. Glows light the way, but little adorn the rough-hewn walls. It is a place of transition, not a place to linger.

It's after Luciana and Drex are released from the brig, but how long past that? Hard to say. Probably no more than a few days. In that time, Clementine's been scarce to get a hold of. Chalk it up to Hannah's return, a grudge match with Black Rock and the grubs freaking DYING on them. Also, she's probably not too thrilled to talk to Luciana. However, a rather well connected harper would have at least attempted to make contact with the former pirate woman. The kind of guy who could get spurious accusations tossed out the door. Especially when they're lodged by a man who's response to being accused of attempted murder is to basically say 'well duh of course, it seemed like the best solution to my problem'. At this moment, Clementine is on her way back to her office BUT NOT IN IT YET because nope please not another scene there, it's in the infirmary all over again!

It’s busy and chaotic times! For everyone but Luciana. She’s spent the first few days mostly in her rooms. She has reason to sulk, here! It sucks being arrested (again) but it’s worse to have Guards following you. That Harper was probably the only visitor aside from D’ean that she would tolerate. When she learned that he could get those accusations tossed out? That caught her interest. Could be she was meaning to meet with him or already had, as she’s distracted in her wandering of the hallways. She’s pointedly ignoring any Guard shadows she’s acquired too. It’s movement ahead that has her looking up and spotting Clementine. Her steps slow and she stiffly nods her head. “Evening, Weyrwoman.” Ooh, back to formality!

Clementine has also probably been coming up with inventive ways to punish T'zaim for arresting her assistant. JERK. That takes up a lot of her time too, for the record. She's not so distracted that she doesn't notice Luciana approaching, shifting some files under her arm as she draws to a stop. "Luciana." There's a pointed look for the guard that's trailing the woman, a lifted eyebrow and a glance away to indicate he's to step back to some point over there. Once he's beyond earshot of a quietly spoken voice, she'll speak. "How did it go with the harper? I pulled in some of my limited Harper Hall favors to get him down here." In other words, he better not be terrible.

Seriously! Luciana will look relieved when the Guard backs off and her brows lift in obvious surprise when Clementine asks her about the Harper. It does bring a wry, if faint, grin though. “Should’ve known you had your hand in that. Didn’t seem very likely that a Harper like that just happens to come by. He knows his stuff.” In other words, yes. Yes, he’s damn good at his job! “Though I can’t say I’m exactly… thrilled for the sources of my arrest. Figures Drex would’ve run his mouth.” The name is spoken with just a wee bit (okay, a lot) of venom. Might be best to keep considerable distance between those two.

"This is what happens when you assault someone outside of our coverage area and you don't tell me about it beforehand." Because when Clementine finds out in a room with D'cen and T'zaim, it turns into a rolling ball of consequences that starts to spin out of her scope of control. So she's not entirely 'over it' as the case may be. "Why did you lie to me? Why didn't you explain the full extent of what was going on up there?"

And there it is! It’s the truth too, Luciana really did botch that one up good. In her defence? “You did say not to bring it up,” she mutters and then quickly lifts a hand up in a warding gesture. BAD JOKE. “I get it though. I’m not used to your laws or politics. Lived under different rules for too long.” Read: No rules, no laws. She grimaces, “I should’ve told you from the start and I am sorry for that. However I did not think Drex would be so utterly stupid enough to come back.” Her eyes narrow a bit as she frowns. “I didn’t mean to lie to you, Clementine but it really was personal matters. And I thought I’d — we’d — seen the last of Drex.”

"You put me in the position of having to side with you or butting heads with D'cen and T'zaim." Clementine's tone indicates she wasn't pleased to have herself pushed in between that particular rock and hard place. The bad joke earns her a frown, the same sort of frown some other clown got when they were playing with a paper fortune teller. She holds her breath and then blows it out. "It doesn't matter now. It's in the hands of someone else. If Drex makes it out of this, we'll have to see about running him out of the weyr. I don't want an attempted murderer around even if the hall decides he's not dangerous." It's going to be a long road for Drex, even if he makes it out of this next thing unscathed. Her eyes rest on Luciana, an eyebrow arching: "Never do that to me again."

“The charges against me were ridiculous to begin with,” Luciana counters but she’ll quickly bite her tongue from saying anything further given that frown she’s earned. Right. Don’t piss the Weyrwoman off anymore than she already has! She sighs heavily, “If I’d had any idea that Drex was the type of man he’s proven himself to be? I’d have never asked that he be released. I spared his life, figured I’d take him north with me and this is how I get repaid.” So this is basically kind of, sort of, all her fault. Her expression twists, mouth pressed to a grim line but she’ll nod. “It won’t happen again.” Lesson learned. It’s as close to a promise as she’ll get.

"You assaulted a man with your bow." Now did she shoot him with the bow? BLUDGEON him with the bow? Clementine might not know specifics. This could be one of those times she doesn't want to know the specifics. She sighs, as her ability to think on Drex is quickly disappearing. "Well, apparently he's very adamant about having tried to kill your niece and not being at all remorseful for it." She rubs her hand over her face, perhaps trying to wipe her memory of him completely. "Thank you." It's not specifically stated outloud, but the goldrider should come across as the type of woman who won't tolerate this kind of thing happening more than once. At least not without lots of warning and the potential for sweeping it all under the rug.

Too bad, she’s getting the specifics. “I hit him with over his head with my crossbow so he’d stop trying to kill my niece! Damn right I assaulted him! And he’s damn lucky I didn’t just shoot him on the spot” She never raised her voice, but her whispered voice takes on a harsher edge. Plenty of anger simmering there. She scoffs then, “He isn’t and for that I’m done with him. I don’t care what happens… He made his choice.” If there’s any plans for murdering in the future, Clementine can be assured that she’ll be in the know. Despite the whole pirate thing? Luciana doesn’t (usually) kill. It’s bad for business. “I am sorry it’s become a mess for you too.” She means it. Angry or not, there’s sincerity in her voice. Regret too. “But I couldn’t just let him kill her. I had act, Clementine.”

"Great. But after you hit him, you didn't come to get me. So then he got to spin his tale of you assaulting him." Clementine's fingers flex around the files in her possession, stepping forward so that their conversation is more private than it already is. "Make no mistake here, I don't want you getting into these kind of mishaps to begin with. But when they happen, you find me. If I can't get to you, I will send someone to you. I will pull you out of the fire." She seems unphased by the anger, neither intimidated or particulary put off. "When I hired you, I put my trust into you. Start showing me some fucking trust back." There's a kind of cold irritation of her own behind the goldrider's intent stare. Then she'll hand her files off to Luciana, perhaps expecting her to take them. Or maybe she doesn't care if they fall on the floor! "Start showing up to work again."

Well, that wasn’t an expected response? Luciana frowns, clearly thrown off guard when Clementine explains that she should’ve called for her aid. It’ll sink in later and all click, likely making her feel all the more the fool (and idiot) for not realizing how easy it would’ve been to avoid all of this. Instead she went about it all wrong and backwards. She’ll just meet that intent stare with a narrowed one, but she says nothing more. Mostly because she has to scramble not to drop those files and manages.. barely. “I understand and it won’t happen again.” Famous last words. “I’ll be there in the morning,” she mutters and is already inching away. Then she stops and, brazenly, asks: “Can the Guard shadowing stop? Or am I still under arrest?”

It's probably some kind of conflict of interest but Clementine waves her fingers at the man who's been SO patiently waiting this entire time. "You can stop following her. And send along a message to your captain. Tell him I hope we're not using the guards to trail every person that's accused of simple assault. And instead I'd like the guard detail on Drex doubled." In short, add another person (or five) to the list that hopes Clem dies in a fire. "I'll see you tomorrow. I need to go lift the ban on T'zaim being allowed access to sandwiches before he requests a transfer to High Reaches or stops talking to me forever." As was mentioned, she's a very busy woman. So she'll just be going now, without much in the way of further explanation. It can be assumed she accepts those famous last words as truth~

Luciana’s not pushing her luck any further this night! She’ll dip her head respectfully to Clementine, along with a murmured, “Thank you.” She’ll try not to look giddy with relief and over Drex’s doubled guard. She’ll definitely not laugh about T’zaim’s ban from sandwiches; that’ll be for later, when she’s in her rooms again. So much laughter. She’ll go sort out those files first though and after that brief stop to her personal rooms… will go out for a drink for the first time in days. Let’s hope she doesn’t have that interrupted too!
