Rooftops

If you can find the handholds to haul your way up - and there are plenty, if you know where to look - then there is a hidden highway of tile and adobe that waits for knowing travellers to tread its path.A road best travelled by those sure of foot and able to stomach the occasional leap between buildings without falling victim to vertigo, the rooftops represent a quick and possibly convenient way of travelling about the bazaar; though don't be surprised if there's the odd shady opportunist willing to take a risk this high above what law lies below.

The view from up here is spectacular; rooftops, sun-bleached, weathered, beaten by time, spread like an uneven patchwork quilt from here to the very borders of the bazaar. Some flat, some tiled, some frequented and some abandoned - it's not unusual to find the odd potted garden, stored goods or even a precious chicken coop, locked down to protect the feathered denizens within its thread-protected casing.

The sounds of the bazaar are muffled, the scents blissfully so too, making it a potentially pleasant little getaway for those in need of a little peace and quiet to observe the skies, to travel the high walkways, or to simply soak in some of Rukbat's rays.

The sun is setting over Igen Weyr, coating the rooftops of the bazaar in a sticky, honey-gold heat that's still and just a little stuffy, in the aftermath of the latest sandstorm. Dust has piled up in every possible nook and cranny in the lesser-used upper walkways of the bazaar; footsteps mark those paths that are known and trod, though Thierry, naturally, is away from the more common spots to find a sunsoaked roof that's one of the highest around, and one of his favourite hide-outs. He's sent Snake with a note to Reilan, asking him to not only come but to bring dinner too, and now the teen just sits with his feet kicked over the edge of the roof, watching the sunset.

It may take Reilan just a bit of time to actually make it up onto the rooftops. And with food! He's had to wrap it up and stuff it in a carrying pouch to prevent it from getting smooshed or covered in sand, but the teenager does make it, squinting a little in the light from the setting sun. He heads across the roof to sit down, smiling behind his veil at Thierry. "You couldn't pick an easier spot to eat?"

"Nope." Thierry scoots over on the battered rug he's pilfered from someone's roof, making room for Reilan to sit beside him so he doesn't get his butt too dusty. He leans back, resting his weight on his hands, and smiles up at his friend. "Y'gonna sit here all covered up, pretty boy? What'd you bring to eat?" Up go his fingers, to tweak gently at the veil.

"Maybe I am. With all the dust.." Reilan just makes a face for a moment. But he does reach up to dislodge the veil, letting the cloth fall down to drape around his neck instead. "It's easier to eat this way, I suppose." He lifts the pouch then, offering it to Thierry with a small shrug. "Easy stuff. A couple of wrapped up mixes of meat and greens and those pastries you like."

Thierry flicks playfully at Reilan's nose when he drops the veil, then sits up and scoots back a little from the edge of the building so he can sit closer to the blonde. "Awesome." He's pleased with dinner, certainly! The teen winks at his friend, taking the pouch and pulling out a wrap for each of them, handing the first one over to Reilan. "So I spoke to that guy. That Southerner."

Reilan settles a bit more comfortably, taking hold of the wrap for him with a laugh. He waves it at Thierry's flicking fingers to keep them away from his face however, then takes a bite out of the wrap. It's only then that he turns a curious look onto the other boy, brows arching upward quickly. Chewing..chewing..swallow! "The one you said was all marked up?"

"Mmhrm." Thierry's got his mouth full, and can't manage more than that as a reply. He chews, swallows, and then leans his weight against Reilan, shoulder to shoulder - or near enough. He's grown a bit more! And so has his hair, which should really be tied back in a runnertail to keep it out of his face, since it's a mess as it is. "Though mebbe we'd go swim tonight. Sneak in to the lake. Whatcha think?"

Reilan adds his own weight into that lean so he's not knocked over in the process, grinning a little bit to himself. He's content enough to eat in relative silence for a time though, before he tilts his head to peer at his friend. "And? What'd you /say/?" He's curious, darn it! There's laughter from the blonde though as he plucks a piece of meat out of his wrap, nibbling on it by itself. "We /need/ to sneak?"

Thierry takes Reilan's weight easy enough, grinning down at him as he loops an arm casually about his shoulders. Doesn't that make leaning that much easier? He sighs contentedly, and shrugs again around a mouthful of wrap. Once he's swallowed; "Tell ya later." He's giving nothing away right now. Nothing! As for the question? "Uh-huh. Don't wanna get seen by no-one. Ain't been in the Weyr for fucking ages and I dunno what that you-know-what'll say if she finds out I fucked off outta the guard."

Reilan finishes off his wrap, taking the time to brush a bit of crumbs away from his clothing. And if he happens to lean all the more against Thierry, well, that arm just makes it easy to do. He can't help it. He doesn't look particularly happy about being put off about the Southerner, but nods and starts digging in the pouch for the pastries. "I guess that makes sense enough. It'll be dark anyway, so it's not like it'll be hard."

"Right." Grinning down at his friend, Thierry stuffs the last of his wrap into his mouth. It's a lot to chew through so he can't talk for a while, but that doesn't seem to bother him; he can just lean happily against Reilan, stroking fingers through his blonde hair - fingers that don't have wrap-crumbs on them. When he finally gets to swallow, he presses his forehead to the side of Rei's head, bumping him gently. "Wanna nap here first?"

Reilan is having a lazy time of leaning and enjoying hair-stroking. And pastry. He gives a little nibble to it, after all, but shrugs, nodding. "So long as we do wake up.. I don't wanna spend all night up here." It gets cold, after all! The teen does grin however, offering part of the pastry to Thierry with a glance up at him. "You want this?"

Thierry bites the pastry, then snorts at Reilan. "Whatcha mean, so long as we wake up? Course we're gonna wake up, blondie." He snorts in amusement, running his finger up the underside of his little friend's chin, then tapping it off his nose. "'sides. 'm gonna keep ya warm, Worm." Isn't he draped half-over him now anyway? Thierry leans against him more, while also pulling Rei closer to him.

Reilan rolls his eyes just a little bit, laughing. "I meant wake up to go across the bowl. I don't wanna sleep out here all night long." His nose wrinkles a little bit at the return of that nickname though, before he gives a small smirk, poking Thierry in the side. "You'd just better do a good job if you're keeping me warm." Although he seems to be doing a good enough job of it for the moment, despite the lack of need for it, given the temperature is still fairly lofty.

Capturing Rei's pastry-holding hand to raise it to his mouth for another bite, Thierry winks at his friend, and, using the arm wrapped around his shoulders, he lowers the teen down onto the scruffy rug they're sitting on. It's sunwarmed, and, coupled with the heat stored in the hot brick beneath them, there's plenty of warmth for the time being, while Reilan's allowed to use Thi's arm as a pillow. He rolls over to face his friend, stealing some more pastry as he does. "Hey. Pretty. Why din't you pinch some wine too, huh?"

Reilan grins, but takes the rest of the pastry for himself once Thierry takes his bite. He settles down though, resting against the older boy's arm while watching him. It /is/ a fairly comfortable place to rest. Maybe not for too long a period of time though. "I didn't think about it. I'm not in the mood for drinking anyway."

"Eh, probably just as well. Might have rolled off the edge if you were drunk." Thierry teases, prodding a finger against Rei's chest. "Mighta had to go find me a new friend if that were gonna happen. You wouldn't be no good pancaked down there." he grins, settling down more comfortably. "So… y'gonna keep me warm?"

Reilan makes a face at Thierry for that, promptly swatting the older boy in the chest. "Exactly. No way am I taking a tumble off the roof just so we can have a party and be drunk." He'll do his drinking on ground level! His lips curve upward a little though, looking fairly amused for the time being. "You just let me know if you feel a chill."

Prodding fingers walk up Reilan's chest to his neck, then skip up to squeeze the younger teen's chin. "I ain't gonna get cold. I'm a man. Don't get cold." Maybe Thierry's got enough insulation in his scraggy beard to keep him warm. "Hey, Rei? We never had drinks nor nothing on my turnday. You're gonna hafta fix that."

Reilan snorts softly at that. "Yeah, well I'm a man and I get cold." Granted, Rei would also wear warm fuzzy slippers if he got the chance to. So cozy. He shifts to simply rest on his back, staring up at the fading light of the sky for now. It's much better than having the /glare/ of the Igen sun beating down during midday. The teen blinks however, turning his head again to look at Thierry. "We didn't, did we? I'll fix it later on, kay? We'll have drinks and everything, and eat."

"You're not a man. You're Reilan." And therefore in a category all of his own, according to Thierry. Who is totally teasing, though he still grabs hold of Rei's wrist in case the younger teenager decides to retaliate. He grins, squeezing his wrist and pressing it back against the blonde's chest. "Let's just take stuff back to the Ring. No point wasting marks on shitty company in the Cantina."

Reilan does eye Thierry for that comment. But alas, his arm has been captured! Retaliation does not occur. Though the teen certainly looks like he's /thinking/ about it. He gives a little huff though and tugs away, sitting up again. "There's nothing wrong with the company in the Cantina. Hell, give them an excuse to party and they'd probably buy you a bunch of drinks anyway. Come on. I don't wanna take a nap. We can go get a drink on the ground and do whatever swimming thing you wanna do later on."

When Reilan sits up, Thierry rolls over onto his back, propping himself up on his elbows. "Oi. The fuck d'you think you're going?" He reaches out for Rei's tunic, to curl his fingers into the fabric. "C'mon, lie back down." A little tug tries to force it. "Ain't gonna drink then go swim. That's fucking stupid, blondie."

"Well don't get /smashed/." Reilan bats at Thierry's hand though, getting to his feet. "I'm thirsty either way, and I didn't bring anything else with me." He pokes at the older boy with his toes once he's up, nudging him a few times. "Come with me?"

Thierry groans in protest at having his plan for the evening foiled, and thwaps at Reilan's calf for the toe-prodding. "Fine." He'll agree, even if he's not happy about it. The long-limbed teen gets to his feet, then bends down to roll up the scruffy rug, which will no doubt be stashed somewhere on their way down. He looms over Reilan now they're both on their feet, capturing the blonde's chin in his hand to squeeze it. "You're getting bossy."

Reilan waits for Thierry to get up, smiling faintly to himself at all the groaning coming from his friend. That's Rei. Plan-ruiner! He does lean a little into Thierry though, head tilted up to look at him. "It's a terrible thing?" The blonde smirks then, and simply pulls away, making his way back across the roof to the way he came up. "Come on!"
