The Abode

From the ledge, two tunnels split off. The larger one leads into an area reserved for two dragon couches. The more human-sized one leads and curves into a rather spacious inner weyr. On the wall near the entrance are several pegs, sturdy enough to hold riding straps and leathers. An obscenely large bed is settled against one far corner of the room. It is covered in a deep red comforter with multiple pillows laying against the headboard. Beside it, a singly drawered nightstand sits. On the opposite side of the bed, there's a large wooden armoire, likely holding both residents' clothing. Between the bed and the armoire sits a vanity dresser, its surface mainly empty except for a brush. Against one wall of the weyr, an interesting set of geometric shelves hangs, its shelves holding a variety of odds and ends. Underneath it is a plain desk with a single chair. The perfect place to get hidework done. Just past this set-up, a fairly-sized couch is nestled against the other corner of the weyr, before it sits a low klah table. Toward the center of the weyr proper is a decently-sized table, large enough to comfortably sit at least four adults and surrounded by exactly that many chairs. Scattered about the weyr are several rugs of varying size, russet colors, and quality, attributing to its general hominess. Beyond all this, a curtained opening against the far wall leads into a room further within.

Lets face it, L'xan has been out of sorts for a little while now. But for the last sevenday or so, he has been practically non-existent, leaving their weyr before Selaine is awake, and only returning in the wee small hours to collapse into their shared bed. SOMETHING is up in L'xan's world, and try as he might, he's not really the type to keep secrets for very long (unless he's keeping them from himself, then he's kinda pro). Perhaps it is a bit of a surprise when the big burly bronzerider comes striding into the weyr with the golden light of impending sunset. He's home early tonight!

Of course, Selaine isn't the type to completely be ignorant to whatever is going on with her weyrmate, but as it is, he's never home when she's awake for her to confront him about it. With the twins only just past the seventh month mark since their birth, there's still a lot that the girls can do to wear the greenrider out. Today, however, is a rest day and the three of them are huddled around the floor as they slowy begin to crawl around, though a lot of it is just them getting onto their hands and knees and kind of rocking back and forth. Selaine sits with her back against the couch, clapping her hands, "Lenali! Come to mama!" she calls out just as L'xan comes through the entrance. Upon seeing him, Jonaxi actually makes some headway in trying to crawl in his direction. "Oh now you start crawling…"

Thank Faranth for impossibly clever and impossibly cute crawling babies, L'xan will totally seize the opportunity presented by Jonaxi's cleverness to scoop his girl-child up and reward her with belly raspberries. There is much giggling from father and daughter, because lets face it - L'xan is totally under the twins spell. "Clever lil Jolly!" Those nicknames have stuck, and he turns his attention to his more gentle daughter. "C'mon Lolly, are you going to let her get away with that?" He knows they don't understand him, but aside from the inevitable increase in pitch - L'xan refuses to use baby talk. He has his dignity okay? "And here is the prettiest one of them all. Evening Silly." And he'll just dance over this way now, bobbling Jonaxi carefully, as he escapes the retaliation for the nickname that occurred to him not long after he gave the twins theirs.

Without a doubt, L'xan's ridiculous nicknames for their children has Selaine rolling her eyes, but she can't help the smile the spreads on her lips at the sight of her weyrmate interacting with Jonaxi. In response to her father calling her name, though likely not because of it, Lenali starts to crawl in his direction as well. When L'xan uses the same nicknaming convention for her as he did for their daughters, she frowns, searching for something to throw at him, except she'd made sure that there was nothing that the girls could get their hands on. SO SAD. "You're home early today," she notes after her unsuccessful search.

L'xan is very well pleased with his successful use of that nickname, and his grin is broad and unrepentant, even as he scoots closer again. And then he's getting tag-teamed by both slobberingly adorable twins (Teething UGH!) so he'll just flop onto the ground beside Selaine, placing Jonaxi on one leg, and nudging Lenali closer with the other even as he slings an arm around Selaine and kisses her hair before issuing a low growl into her ear. "I would have gone with Sexy, but that might be embarrassing when the twins start learning how to talk." No, L'xan doesn't know how babies work, but he is a perfectly good climbing thing, and the twins are entertained trying to loll their way around those legs of his. Rolling is fun! "I am aren't I?" He agrees, while NO ONE has been getting much sleep lately, he looks rather haggard - more so than can be explained by the duties of childhood. "But I was thinking it might be nice to get away for a bit… Anahera around somewhere?" He looks towards the nursery expectantly. Sure it was weird living with a complete stranger, but she was such a blessing he wasn't going to make that much of a deal out of it.

As soon as he's close enough, Selaine still manages to get in a swat for the nicknaming (he should've been expecting that, right?), before quickly succumbing to the kiss that he gives her. It seems almost like forever since he's given her a proper one, after all. There's a light blush for the nickname alternative even as she rolls her eyes. Still, she does scoot a little closer as he's kind of bogged down by babies, watching fondly as the children use their father for entertainment. "Get away?" she asks with a lift of one brow, "Why so suddenly? And she's here… Thesrov's taking a nap." So it's possible she's trying to make sure the boy stays asleep while the girls aren't being fussy.

"You used to like my surprises." L'xan counters, pretending to wince as that swat hits its mark. "Or you didn't ask so many questions." One or the other. "I just thought it might be nice to have a 'grown-up' night. I've been busy lately…" Coughcough. "And the girls seem to be…" He waves a hand at the rolling mass of baby limbs and saliva and cute little baby girl clothes. "Perhaps Anahera could handle all three of them for a few candlemarks while we go somewhere fancy for dinner. You have all those floaty dresses hanging up in the closet. It would be a shame not to see you in them. YES THIS NIGHT IS ALL ABOUT SELAINE!

"I always ask a lot of questions," Selaine points out as she pulls out a handkerchief to wipe away some of the slob that's accumulated on Jonaxi's chin. The look she gives him when he mentions being busy practically screams, 'No, really? I didn't notice.' Still… the suggestion to get get dinner with just the both of them is rather appealing, as much as she loves spending time with the children. Eyes shift over to the wardrobe, a wistful sigh as she recalls all the dresses that have been hanging unused for months. "Well… I'm sure she'd be fine for a few candlemarks…" Which probably means a 'yes' to that idea.

L'xan would rub his hands together, but he's got a handful of Selaine, so instead he squeezes her opposite shoulder with an echo of that boyishly charming enthusiasm that he used to have about the same time she was wearing those dresses regularly. "I'd call out, but that'd probably wake up Thesrov right?" See he learns! "But we should probably you know…" Get up off the floor and make the responsible arrangements for the children's care while they abandon them to the tender mercies of the Nanny (Who is really cool in a no nonsense kind of way.) With a groan he pulls himself away from the puddle of women-folk he finds himself in. Time to get this party started or something, and seeing as Selaine needs the time to get herself really pretty, he's going to go find the nanny and make those arrangements (Cos he's a guy, it takes him like ten minutes to put on something that looks like he tried).

Seeing that he does have his hands full, Selaine will at least give him another kiss, excitement building at the prospect of an actual date. How long had it been since they actually had one? Then she's getting up with a brief kiss to the top of the girls' heads before leaving L'xan to deal with the actual arranging while she gets ready. To her credit, she's a lot quicker when it comes to getting ready for anything — a necessary skill when you've got a small handful of children that almost always need your attention the moment you do something else. Still, she takes some time to look nice, putting on some light makeup after she chooses a suitable dress. (Possibly one of L'xan's favorites? If he has one.)

He prefers her naked~

Well, he has to have an alternative preference.

No.

Too bad he's been TOO BUSY to see her naked.

It's not his fault…Oh. He saw someone else nekkid thou~

Does he want to get kicked out of his own weyr? Cause this is how he gets kicked out.

He has his own Weyr now :P Like literally a whole Weyr…and stahp. I'm posing

<3

L'xan doesn't resort to light make-up, but he does take a moment to splash himself with something appropriately manly and stinky. And for once he eschews his practical uniform of white shirt and tan pants for something a little more well…grown up! He dresses quickly in a charcoal shirt and black pants. IT IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT! (Even if he keeps his wrist-braces and suspenders the same.) And because there is a very real possibility that any one of the children could come down with the plague or similar emergency in the short, short time that it takes the pair of riders to get ready he's just going to offer his arm out to Selaine real quick like and hiss. "Quickly! Before they realize we're escaping!" And then a bit louder. "We're going now Anahera! Good luck!~" And they better get their asses out quick, because there is no way his yelling is going to end well.

Selaine will at least take a moment to actually admire a well-dressed L'xan, since how often does that happen, right? Still, she takes his offered arm and gives him another roll of her eyes, followed by another swat at his yelling. "Shh!" And then she's dragging him out of their weyr with an exasperated sigh. She wouldn't be surprised if Anahera wants to try and murder him when they return. "Where are we going, by the way?" she asks once they're out on the ledge.
L'xan is well aware that the nanny may not be entirely pleased with his parting remarks, so he's not going to linger beyond grabbing all that necessary leather for a trip ::Between::. "I was thinking we could go back to that seafood place in Ista…?" He suggests, surely Selaine remembers that super fancy, super 'geeze-I-hope-they-have-forgotten-us' place? "Have some of those fried fish things, perhaps that banana dessert…" Oh she's so going to get lucky later (Maybe….please?) "Do you want to be independent? Or would you mind terribly if I take care of all the flying this evening?" Akitith can tag along if she wants, but all she has to do is look pretty, Nokteryth will do all the heavy lifting!

It doesn't take Selaine long to recall the place L'xan reminds her of, and she's of the same mind that hopefully they don't remember the overly affectionate bronzerider and his weyrmate that one time some months ago. An eyebrow lifts at the mention of the banana dessert. He'll only get lucky if he plays his cards right~ (Or he might not have to at all because she might be a bit desperate for it at this point). "I'll leave it up to you then. Akitith wouldn't mind me riding another dragon every now and then." And she'll let him do all the heavy-lifting with all the leathers and stuff, though she'll at least climb onto Nokteryth's neck without him having to literally lift her onto it.

The benefit of being a dragonrider for as long as L'xan has is that it takes him NO TIME AT ALL to get all those straps in place, and checked over (Diligence saves lives!) And then he's quickly popping back into the tunnel for their jackets. As lovely as Selaine looks he really doesn't want her to catch a chill ::Between::, also leather jacket + Floaty dress = HAWT! It takes even less time for the massive wings of the anarchist bronze to take them to a good height for them to pop between. Seeing dismounting and walking to their final destination is all a bit boring, we're not going to describe that… It gets interesting again once they climb those stairs and enter the lofty atmosphere of The Cloudscraper Lounge. They're baaack~ And this time they are seated in a window side table just in time for a glorious sunset! Almost like magic. "I love this place." L'xan admits as he starts the ritual of small talk to fill the time between the actual active part of dining.

Cloudscraper Lounge
Deep blue carpets the floor, cushioning tired soles and muffling footfalls. Several tables of dark wood, polished to a high gloss, are scattered across the room, surrounded by an escort of comfortable leather chairs. The walls are paneled in the same dark wood, occasionally sporting a jewel-toned tapestry or painting. A long counter stretches along one wall of the room, stone sides and brass accents gleaming from careful polishing. Glassware hangs overhead within easy reach, a rack of bottles stands behind. Glass-paned double doors let the sun in to light the room, reflecting off the gleaming wood and brass of the furniture before being broken up into thousands of tiny fragments by the glasses. Beyond the doors, a balcony can be seen overlooking the island.

Too bad L'xan only gets a short eyeful of Selaine in the leather jacket before she's taking it off as soon as they land in Ista. Way too hot to keep it on, after all. Once they're seated and all that good stuff, the greenrider stares out the window at the setting sun before turning to look back at her weyrmate. "I can certainly see why. I do love this view," she comments with a nostalgic smile, recalling the last time they were here. "I can actually drink this time," she also notes with a quirk of her lips. Because the last time they were here, she was still pregnant with the twins after all, though they certainly hadn't known there were going to be two bundles of joy instead of just one at the time.

"What an excellent idea!" The drinking, and L'xan isn't suspicious at all with his enthusiasm as he waves the sommelier over to immediately act upon this vaguely voiced intention of Selaine's. Her wish is his command! "The jungle and the sea is nice isn't it?" More small talk as they await the menus and the copious amounts of alcohol that L'xan has requested. There is a smile for Selaine however. "You said at the time you didn't want to come back all that often. So I figured…I'd surprise you. And then because he is a sly dog at times… "Did you know it's been just over a turn since the last time we were here…" He remembered! Even through the parental haze that the twins have caused.

"Well it's certainly a nice change from Igen's constant desert, to be sure," Selaine agrees with a light laugh as she looks back out the window for a moment before turning her attention back on L'xan. "You definitely have a good memory, don't you?" The smile she gives him here is an affectionate one, recalling all the little things he's done on each of their little previous 'anniversaries'. "Time seems to fly sometimes, doesn't it?"

L'xan nods wisely. "Change is good!" Is it agreement, or not-so-subtle buttering up? Who knows because here are the menus, and the sommelier is right behind with a bottle of the good stuff. "That was when we decided to move into the same weyr right?" Or become weyrmates…SOMETHING LIKE THAT. It's totally important. "Of course I'm going to remember a night that changed my life." Charm, L'xan has it! He also has a horrible case of the fidgets, but he'll man up enough to pay attention to the wine-waiter while the guy waxes lyrical about this particular vintage of Benden wine. Eventually, the man pours the glasses and leaves them to it. It is then that L'xan raises his glass and proposes a toast. "To change!" Clink-clink Selaine!

Any comments Selaine would've made in reference to change is held off as the sommelier arrives, blue eyes lighting up at the sight of the name 'Benden' on the bottle. Definitely the good stuff that this greenrider likes. Those same eyes flicker back over to L'xan with a slight roll, "Yes, it was." She's not going to correct him though as he continues with that charm of his, eliciting a wider smile. The specifics aren't always super important, right? Her own glass is raised to touch it to his, "To change." Now time to taste that delicious Benden wine~ The look on her face is enough to show just how good it is. "How I've missed a good glass of wine…" Because how often does she get the chance with the twins? "Too bad I can't drink too much of it…" Y'know, since she's still nursing the twins and all.

L'xan is going to take a moment to enjoy her enjoyment of the wine. Perhaps he should wait until she's had those couple of glasses…but the moment is kind of perfect. "Speaking of change and moving…" There is a brief moment when his confidence flees and he has to take a deep breath to get the ball rolling again. "How would you feel about a move to Southern Weyr?" Random much? There is even a hint of blush on his cheeks as he continues to watch her intently. "I may have…*cough*…accidentlybecametheirnewWeyrleader." Oh it's his turn to drink now right? That's how it works, he drops a bombshell then gets bombed (cuz he's not nursing… life is so not fair!)

There's a lift of one delicate brow as L'xan starts his segway into the next bit of conversation as Selaine puts her glass of wine down. It rises even further at his sudden question, suspicious of the color on her weyrmate's face. "WHAT?!" It's a very good thing Selaine wasn't drinking any wine at that very moment because she may very well have spit wine in his face for all the surprise that that statement took her by. She clears her throat as she realizes that her volume might have been a tad loud, looking over apologetically to the other patrons of the restaurant before turning back to her weyrmate with a sickenly sweet smile. "I'm sorry, what was that about accidentally becoming Southern's new Weyrleader?!" The last bit comes out in a half whisper.

L'xan is a gentleman enough to look very very sheepish now. He's even going to scratch his hair like a naughty school boy. "Well… It's almost funny, that story…" How much more waffling can he do? "I've been looking for new fishing spots. Ista's going into winter, so it isn't so good. And I thought 'Hey! Why not try Southern! It's going into summer now. The fishing should be excellent'…" Why yes he is rambling, but there is a purpose, I'm sure. "And I was fishing, and Nokteryth was bored…and how was I supposed to know Khalyssrielth was set to rise?" He'll just knock back the rest of his wine now thanks. A refill appears to be a good idea as he reaches for the bottle once more. "And I didn't even realize that Bailey was the senior until after…" Oh wait, that's probably not something to talk about right now. "And I kind of accidentally became Southern's Weyrleader." The end…no wait! "I blame Nokteryth, the randy bastard." Okay, now it's the end.

Selaine's just going to drink some more of that wine right now to get through what L'xan goes about telling his story. Though she doesn't look the least bit impressed with it at all. There's a very unhappy looking greenrider over here, folks, and even the servers know to stay away for the moment. "Sure, blame the dragons." Even though it really is the dragon's fault. More wine anyone? Selaine's looking real stormy right about now. And this was supposed to be such a nice date! She lets out a long, suffering sigh before leaning back against her chair with a hand at her temples. "So that's why you've been so busy lately?"

L'xan makes more of those 'I'm a complete man-baby, but you still love me right?' faces. "Nokteryth hasn't been catching all that often lately…It was a surprise for both of us…" Perhaps L'xan more than Nokteryth. "I think you'll like it there. It's very green, and there is a nice ground level weyr with all the amenities just for us!" Thank Faranth, L'xan never had to try and make a living selling stuff. "And yes. That's why I've been busy." Even with instant transportation, COMMUTING IS HARD.

Selaine is secretly glad that Nokteryth hasn't been catching a lot, keeping her weyrmate out of other people's weyrs, but such is the life of a rider… Lips purse into a thin line as L'xan tries to paint Southern in a better light. "Won't they make you stay in the Weyrleader's suite?" she asks with a frown. She's not sure about those particular logistics when part of the pair is already weyrmated. "And how are we going to get the children to Southern?" The twins are much too young for a trip *between* just yet.

"That is the Weyrleaders suite, they have this little courtyard see? And there is enough ground weyrs to accommodate all the golds…" L'xan does make a face for that, part of what he has been doing is filling in his understandable blanks in knowledge regarding Southern's recent history. For a moment he drops into more seriousness. "Southerns had a shit run of luck lately, love. When Nokteryth won…I could hardly say no now could I?" He refers of course to the fact that Southern was on very shaky ground until recently. "I know you're not happy." He gestures broadly at the setting and the people surrounding them who are trying very hard not to look like they've been trying to listen in since Selaine's exclaimations. "I did try to soften the blow." It should bring her comfort that he is more scared of her than of assuming battle leadership of the beleaguered jungle weyr. "And I'm sure we can make arrangements for the twins to travel by ship. Mother and Anahera should be able to handle it." Not that he's all to clear on the logistics of transporting babies to small to go between, or eat smushy food.

Something in Selaine wants to complain about how Southern's shitty luck has anything to do with her weyrmate but she's trying to be mature about this whole situation. Not happy was certainly an understatement as her frown deepens, a glare sent to the nosy people. "By tricking me into a date?" she shoots back before letting out another sigh and a wave of her hand, "No, nevermind. That's not nice of me. Not like you had much of a choice, right?" She takes another sip of her wine, "I can't leave them to just your mother and Anahera… I'll have to go with them. They can spare one rider for a little while, right?" She's a bonus that comes along with L'xan, after all. One more for the jungle Weyr should be a good thing, right?

There is an almost visible easing of tension across the bronzeriders shoulders. Sure there will probably be all the words later. "It wasn't a trick-date." He points out, finally reaching out to grab one of her hands so he can rub his thumb across it reassuringly. He is also trying to be well behaved. "I know the guy in charge, I'm sure he'll be fine if you're a little late making your way there." Of course he is the guy in charge now. "And I will try and pop by when duties allow." He offers gallantly. And then he is who he is he's going to lean across the table to kiss her with gratitude, and the slightest amount of passion… "Thank you for understanding." He murmurs before returning to his seat and resuming propriety. "I know it isn't easy." And he sure as hell didn't plan for any of it.

All the words or perhaps none at all? Only time would tell. At least Selaine's frown relaxes as L'xan takes her hand, even allowing a small quirk of a smile as he mentions the 'guy in charge'. "You'd better, otherwise I'll have Akitith annoy Nokteryth until you do." And then he's kissing her and all the anger and hurt just melts away. Who cares about propriety?! "You're lucky I love you so much," she says with a genuine smile this time.

"I am extremely lucky." L'xan agrees, tenderly. "Perhaps even luckier later?" Oh, now he's pushing it even as he quirks his brows to accompany his slightly naughty question. "We should probably fuel up first though." There are more lecherous facial expressions, but no more kisses (for now). "We could check out the new digs after… it has a private bathing room." He did promise her one of those at some stage didn't he? Now that the hard stuff is out of the way, they can concentrate on the excellent food beautifully enhanced by the fine Benden wine selected for them.

"We'll see about that," Selaine says in response to the naughty question with a quirk of her lips. "Though you know I don't say no to food." Her appetite has definitely gone down since the twins were born but she eats more now than she used to. Lets hope all that PT keeps the weight off from all that food. At 'private bathing room', a brow lifts, "Oh? That I must see." So that's a yes, right? There are some advantages to having him be the guy in charge after all, though she's not going to admit that out loud any time soon.

L'xan drops his voice lower even as he leans towards her. "Also, right at the moment, there are no children…no nanny…no one." His confession has the conspiratorial tones of a parent who loves their children dearly but also finds the prospect of alone time extremely appealing. "Except us. Later." He winks before tucking into the food that some clever sod thought to provide them. His appetite is still a match for his frame, so while it looks like a lot of food, by the time he is sated there is nothing but empty plates. With one of his many appetites sated, he's just going to lean back in his chair and watch Selaine for a long moment, cradling his wine glass - but not sipping from it just yet.

Selaine is trying very hard to resist temptation, okay? She's still a little mad. But the way he puts it has her squirming a bit in her seat before she digs into the food as well. Silence reigns while they eat, with L'xan finishing well before her but it doesn't take much longer for her to finish her own portion. While he takes his time with his glass of wine, Selaine indulges, now on her second glass since the meal started before her gaze flickers to meet his stare. "What?"

"Anyone tell you you're extremely beautiful?" He answers her question with one of his own. It must be love if he can say something like that after watching her eat. "They should, and often. Else you should beat them." His lips twitch despite himself. But now that he has broken the news to Selaine, it is apparent that he is no longer under the compulsion of the odd restlessness that has been plaguing him even longer than his has been Southerns new leader. "Did you want to get that banana thing? For later?" Undoubtedly his plans for the rest of the evening include the banana dessert, and the empty weyr with the bathing chamber. He's a little transparent right now.

"Maybe you can just beat them up for me," Selaine suggests with a widening smile before she takes an actual sip of her wine. His questions have her considering him from across the top of her wine glass before she finishes it off and sets it down. "Sure," she agrees eventually, "For later." Lips quirk into a sly smile as she's just agreed to whatever his plans are, despite her resistance earlier. She's not the type to stay mad for long.

If Pern had watches, he'd totally pretend to check his non-existent one…but alas he has to make do with finishing his glass. "I do declare it is later now." After a whole 5 seconds have passed. With a wave he'll summon the magic restaurant people and place an order for that banana thing to go…and after a moment considering his now empty wine glass, he also orders a second bottle. Nokteryth has a big back, he can totally handle all the stuff Lax is planning on bringing with them as they check out their new digs. "I'll think of some suitable punishment, I'm sure. I'm an inventive man." Wink. But, sooner rather than later their take-away stuff arrives and L'xan is standing to offer her his arm once again. "Shall we?"

Selaine just rolls her eyes at him even as L'xan goes about ordering the dessert and wine, though her expression is nothing short of simply being bemused. "It had better be a good one," she adds for good measure before taking his offered arm as everything arrives for them to take home. By that point, there's hardly a trace of the previous conversation and the greenrider seems willing enough to go with whatever her weyrmate has planned for them.

Of course L'xan has been an entirely good boy this time at the Cloudscraper, and he can't let that stand! He has a reputation to maintain. A little giddy from relief and the promise of slippery sexytimes, he's totally going to sweep Selaine up into his arms for a proper kiss. It's much easier now that she's not pregnant also. "Perhaps you can help me come up with some good ideas Sexy?" He growls in her ear before letting her go (gently). Now that he has sufficiently scandalized the employees of the Cloudscraper lounge sufficiently for the next turn or so, he's going to lead Selaine back to Nokteryth with a cocky grin. He's the king of the world baby. Or rather Weyrleader of Southern. Same dif right?
