Central Bazaar

All roads in the weyr ultimately lead here, to this center of commerce. Canvas awnings jut out over time worn, sandy cobblestone, sheltering customers and wares alike from the majority of Igen's elements, and funnel scents both mouthwatering and vomit inducing through the thin streets. Almost all store fronts are open air, delineated by sandstone arches with intricately carved facades. The insides of these stone-shingled buildings act as an amplifier for the salesmens' bawled enticements, and are held up by the chipped swirls of marble pillars.

Just another lovely hot day at Igen, and everyone down at the Bazaar is trying to figure out ways to beat the heat. Jaelynn is one of those people, though she isn't really staying out from the heat at the moment as she wanders on through the stalls looking for something or someone it seems. She has on a thin shirt with a vest on to help keep her cool, along with a pair of dark brown pants and sandles. A young gold firelizard is resting upon her shoulder and seems rather curious in the shiny objects that are calling out to her from the different stalls. "I thought he was going to be oer around here today Alsoomse." Yes the young Drargonhealer is talking to that lizard on her shoulder. Alsoomse tilts her head and trills out a bit, she does't want to search out people so she isn't much help.

Th'bek has every preference to dominate a piece of shade with a cool drink, and would gladly settle for one or the other. Arroyo's drills concluded not long after the sun rose but sweeps will resume when it sets so rustlers can see less of approaching dragons. As a small eddy of wind spins on the ground in front of him, the brownrider ruins its spiral with his passing leg and peers through the tiny gap in his headscarf. Jaelynn shimmers in the background of listless buyers as Rev seeks out one who may have information for him. His breath is dry under the faded fabric and he'll need water soon if he wants to stay on his feet.

There are ever so many things in the bazaar, and often some of them are unexpected… which can be a good thing, because it means finding interesting deals and intriguing trades! When the expected things aren't there, well, that can be more troubling, but in some ways that's still just to be expected. Or… something like that, anyhow. Expectations are for confounding? Dawkin's somewhere in the bazaar, at least now. He's striding down one of the windy paths at a quick pace… or at least, as quick as he can manage. Funny thing about the heat: nobody else seems to want to be brisk. So, since he's apparently not willing to shove any of them aside, he's… stuck behind someone slow and not going anywhere in his hurry.

Like the others, Selaine is also wandering through the stalls with thoughts on how to get cool. Having just finished a drill, her own clothing definitely doesn't help with the heat. Her own headscarf obscures her face as she scans a particular stall before scanning ones further down for one that might be selling a cool drink. She might happen to be that slow someone… if only she'd notice.

"I should have brought my scarf." Jaelynn murmurs out softly, mostly to herself. There is a pause as he happens to pass by a stall that has said headscarf's an she ohs a bit as she is sidetracked it seems and pauses there to look over a few of them. "Oh… What do you think about this one Al?" She questions softly. Well she at least paused a moment and is out of the heat while looking at said scarfs.

The stall Th'bek seeks is an extension of a tiny abode with the same wind-worried (once) blue shutters. With a woman with kohl-traced eyes at the front, there's no buyers for the cheaply made jewelry so getting her attention is easy. Whatever question the young rider asks she denies with a small quake of her head. Scenting smoke from their quarters the kind not indicative of cooking, Rev today is patient and will let Pero stew in his den. Nodding once, he faces north and reaches almost desperately for the waterskin on his hip. Clawing the scarf down to drink, "hides too much of your face!" Jaelynn's answered with wet lips.

Eventually, Selaine moves away from her current stall and steers towards another, only to hear a familiar voice yell out. Her eyes eventually spy Th'bek, a wingmate, not far away. Grinning beneath her scarf, she wanders over to the two. "Isn't that the point?" asks her muffled voice, as she comes closer. She gives the scarf a quick lookover. "It's a nice color."

Jaelynn is off in her own little world, which is normal for her a good amount of the time. The voice puls her back to the present and she blinks while peeking up slightly to smile to Th'bek, yes she knows that voice as well even if she hasn't heard it in a while. "Think so?" She questions with an amused tone. "Been far to long, how have you been Th'bek?" She questions with a warm smile to him. A glance is sent over to the newer voice and she smiles to Selaine. "Hello, isn't it though?" She plucks the golden brown scarf from the hook it is on and looks it over rather curiously.

Th'bek drinks his fill and so sated, thinks to return the waterskin to his side, then queries: "either of you need a swallow? Some left." He returns the headscarf back the way it should protectively fall, not exactly spared from Rukbat under the narrow awning of the El Cheapo Jewelry Shoppe. "Score-free fifteen days in a row now," the brownrider brags, eyes narrowing from the smile no one sees. He retains it while looking to Selaine.

"It is!" Selaine agrees again as she takes a closesr look at the scarf. "I'm Selaine, by the way, green Akitith's. Don't think we've ever really talked." Her eyes glance up at the other rider before Th'bek's questions draws her attention away. "Actually, I do." The greenrider replies, holding out a hand for the waterskin. Given and taken, she pulls her scarf down to take a swallow before returning it to its owner. There's a satisfied sigh and a grin at Th'bek before she pulls her scarf back up. "That definitely hit the spot. Thanks, Th'bek."

Jaelynn shakes her head an glances to Th'bek with a smile. "No I'm fine, thanks though." The scarf is held up in the light a bit so she can see how thick it is before she ohs and looks back to Selane. "Sorry… I'm Jaelynn, rider of brown Otsoath. Nice to meet you Selane." Alsoomse reaches out to grab hold of a bit of the scarf and tugs on it a bit while her tail wiggles and sways about. Jae waves her hand slightly at the lizard. "I have to buy it first before you can chew on it."

"She's a good flier," Th'bek proclaims on the heels of Selaine's intro while sounding just a fragment arrogant. Then he settles the waterskin. "Looks like it was made in Keroon." Demeaning the scarf only once for what he thinks as too sheer, then leaves the women to sing its merits. He's boring a second, longer, glance into the dwelling's narrow entrance. Maybe what Pero needs is a short but meaningful ride on Tavuqth.

Selaine grins. "Nice to meet you, as well, Jaelynn." A light laugh escapes her lips as the firelizard attempts to eat the scarf. There's a slight eyebrow raise at Th'bek's comment on where the scarf may have come from. "It's not bad though." she continues before looking over a couple of other scarves. Then, she picks up a particular one off its hook and holds it up next Th'bek. "Hmmm… what do you think, Jaelynn?" she asks, grinning beneath her scarf as she holds up the dark green polka-dotted scarf.

Jaelynn smiles as she hears the bit on Selaine and her ability of flying. "I bet she is." This said happly as she peeks back to the scarf. "Think so?" This questioned at the remark about the scarf. She glances to Selaine and the scarf up next to Th'bek and is soon grinning. "Do they have one with pink dots?" She questions with a teasing tone before sending a crious look off to see what Th'bek is looking at. "So, what's up with that stall you keep staring at Th'bek?" Of course she would ask at some point.

Pero's wife demures because of the clarity no one is hear to buy their wares but she doesn't make ingress back into the shelter. So Th'bek strays but not far, pretending to be more thoroughly aligned with the women riders. "In no way is that camouflage." He admits falsely gruff because only Keroon could produce something in a scarf so hideous as green dots on yellow tartan. Voice beared low, "there's a man in there who may have some details on the cattle thieves."

"Pink dots, hmm?" That said, Selaine most certainly does her best to scan the available scarves for one with pink dots, but alas, she fails to find one. "Doesn't look like it… unfortunately." she says finally with a disappointed look in her eyes. Having paid little attention to where Th'bek's true attention lay, Jaelynn's question also made her curious. Ears are perked as her fellow wingmate answers in a low voice. His response causes her eyebrows to knit together. "Do you need any help?" Selaine asks in a voice equally as low before adjusting her expression. "I really do think this would suit you well, Th'bek." she insists, still holding on to previous scarf.

Jaelynn tsks softly as there are no pink dots. "Would bring out his eyes more." This said with a grin while she looks for the stall's owner to talk about a price for the scarf she has hold of. A faint glance is sent towards the stall in question before she ooks back to the stall owner that is before her and she goes about haggling on the price for the scarf. She's able to get it down a bit and then points to Selaine and suggests the stall owner give her the same price as well on one the greenrider might pick. "I'd be glad to offer up some help to." She offers with a very soft tone, while going about wrapping her new headscarf about her face to help keep that lovely hot sun off.

Th'bek rolls his tongue around in his mouth, wanting to divine what information Pero may or may not have without causing a scene. A fresh waft of smoke issues from the open door and windows though there isn't much of a breeze to take advantage of. Tavuqth's rider scratches his chin under the cotton blend, looks with half-hearted menace at Selaine and Jaelynn and hears their offer of aid without considering it. He can handle the informant. "We have something of a history together," pause, "the bovine games of '02." Th'bek doubles back to indicate to the jewelry seller he knows her husband's home and to retrieve him, then takes necessary steps back to the girls. "It would only interrupt your…shopping."

Selaine's eyes follow Th'bek's over to the home in question before turning her attention back to the current stall and putting down the scarf she was currently holding. She browses through some of the others for herself before nodding. "If you say so. I'll trust you to it." she comments in a low voice. The greenrider picks a promising looking scarf and talks it out about price before getting it for the same price as Jaelynn.

Jaelynn hums a bit while peeking over to Th'bek curiously while she tucks a bit of hair under the scarf before she is happy with it. "I don't have a problem with it interrupting anything." Though she holds a hand up slightly. "Though I'll keep out of the way unless you might want the help." She is mean with a roll of scroll after all, she can smack someone well with it. She grins over to Selaine and nods. "I like that one too." Good taste in color so she thinks.

Sure enough, a man with a pipe pinned in his teeth looks through the doorway, bids his wife to cook something to eat, and garners the brownrider's attention with a sharp grin. Yellowing teeth, but we can't all be champions of dental health. "Come buy me a drink Rev, and I may tell you something useful." Pero, probably a couple of turns Th'bek's senior, reaches inside for a robe he quickly slides into. "I'll have 'im back whole, lady riders. Just don't know when!" Th'bek's demeanor shows he expects no harm other than smoke-drenched clothes. "Later Selaine, Jaelynn!"

Hot, hot, hot. Too hot and with this being the only home E'bert's ever known, he knows two things. First seek shelter from the heat if you can, and second being in the heat too long causes one to stink. It's for this latter reason that E'bert steps out of baths, hair damp and more appropriate clothing for the heat being fastened in to place. He steps back as a street urchin runs past, then he's moving through the bazaar. He's looking for something, and when he gets to the stall with the scarves he stops. Now to find just the right scarf, "Hmm. Which one?"

"Pretty, isn't it?" Selaine comments on her new scarf, a nice royal blue with patterns sewn carefully into it with silver thread. She folds it carefully before looking over at Th'bek again. There's a light laugh before she waves him farewell. "Bye, Th'bek." Looking back at Jaelynn, she nods. "That color suits you well. Glad you got it." Eyes crinkle up in indication of a hidden smile beneath the scarf. At the new customer, she comments, "They have a really nice selection."

Jaelynn smiles and nods to Selaine. "Very much so, Ido like the silver thread on it." Her's had golden thread across the edge which makes it gliter slightly in the light. She looks after Th'bek and waves afterhim before there is a new voice that catches her attention and she smiles to E'bert. "Hey there… They have a lot of nice colors and the like. I bet your find one you really like without worry."

A nod of thanks is given to Selaine, then a smile to Jaelynn, "It's for my sister," E'bert explains, "Missed her Turnday," which does have his cheeks color slightly with embarrassment. After all, how could he forget something like that? "This one's nice," he picks up an almost pastel blue with silver trim, then sets it back down again. It just doesn't look right for the purpose of a gift.

"Yea, that's what caught my eye." Selaine grins before turning her attention over to E'bert. "Ah… it happens to everyone, I'm sure." Then she eyes the scarf he picks up. "That one is nice." she agrees. "What's her favorite color?" she asks, noticing that he doesn't seem so sure about despite having commented that it looked nice.

Jaelynn waves her hand a bit. "I bet she won't worry about it. Especially if you get her one of these lovely scarf's." She offers while looking over the ones for sell once more. "That might be a good idea. Going for a color she likes. They have a few with different color thread in it as well." This said whiel she points to one with pink and blue threads.

E'bert closes his eyes to think for a bit, then says, "She really doesn't have a favorite color," patterns are more Zisiene's style, "As for forgetting her Turnday," a shrug is given, "I shouldn't have forgotten. It's same as mine," six Turns apart, but the same day. A light green with a lattice work weave is picked up, "This one's nice," the material doesn't feel too expensive. E'bert does know his sister won't mind him being a little late, still he probably shouldn't have forgotten in the first place.

"Ah well…" Selaine lets out a soft chuckle. "That definitely gives you fewer excuses to have forgotten." She takes a look at the newly chosen scarf, nodding. "They really do have a nice selection here. I'm sure she wouldn't be disappointed with anything from here. Decent pricing, too."
Jaelynn ahs softly and nods while lifting her head a bit. "Well… Just make up or it and get her a nice one?" This questioned curiously while she glances to the one he picks out and smiles. "That one is nice."

E'bert gives a nod as he sets the scarf aside to look at one under it. A nearly white affair with golden threads woven through to depict intricate filigre. The two scarves are compared, and finally E'bert begins the haggling process. A price is soon agreed on, and both scarves are tucked in to the rider's belt, "Let her choose, and give the other to Ravene," he grins as he explains. Best way to handle the situation, isn't it?

Another soft chuckle can be heard from Selaine. "A good idea as any I've heard." she replies, nodding with approval. With a hand raised to block some of the sun, she looks up to see the position. "Hm… looks like its almost time for my sweep. It was a pleasure meeting you Jaelynn. I'll see you both around." She gives them both a salute before heading out of the bazaar.
