Waterfall

The lush Southern rainforests hide snake-like rivers that wind through the thickest part of the underbrush; it is one such river that provides a view that must be seen once in a lifetime. Powerful, the waters spill over the edges of the cliffs, falling from high, high above to land in a large swell of water that feeds into the Black Rock River. On a sunny day, a kaleidescope of colors can be seen as the light of Rukbat is refracted in a rainbow array of vibrant hues. At the base of the waterfall, where even a dragon would feel dwarfed by the towering cliffs and thick plume of falling water, the swell of water is surrounded by greenery of all kinds: trees, flowers, ferns, moss, lichen. As the point where the waterway narrows into a feeder stream to the larger, Black Rock River, a tiny little bridge spans. All around, water roars, eclipsing even the sounds of wildlife.

Ah evening time in southern, even in winter there are still many sights to see. And as Rukbat sets sending the reds and oranges into the sky the stars are starting to peek out as a lull in the heavy rain with the clouds breaking up. Standing on the bridge that spans the area for viewing leaning on the rail is Th'res the newly minted Wingleader of the Weyrlings, he is lost in thought currently as he watches the water cascade down.

Talya is walking with a purpose towards the stream fed by the waterfall, eyes solely on the sight before her. She has a jacket resting on her shoulders, a little too thick and extravegant for the Southern Weyr weather. Her hands are darkened unnaturally, though she seems mostly unconcerned by it. "Huh, just where they said it would be," she says mostly to herself, staring up to the top of the cliffs and then looking down to the waterfall's pool. She finally turns away, aiming for the stream, and hesitates when she sees someone also enjoying the evening and the sight. "Didn't think this was a popular spot, at least not this late in the day." She studies the rider but she doesn't appear to have any desire to leave.

Th'res looks up from his revere, looking over at the young woman, darkened hands and all he shrugs at the statement "This was the first place I found when I was stationed here." he motions to the little pool saying "if you make your way down there, you can find quartz and opals rolled smooth by the water." He pushes off the rail "I can go if you wish to be alone.. Miss."

Talya starts making her way to the water by the bridge once the bluerider begins talking, taking that as invitation enough that she wasn't going to be sent away. "Must be easier to find than I was told. They said it was a much guarded secret. I think they must be dirty liars." Considering the first time she hikes through the forests, she finds someone else right there as well. "Are those quartz and opals valuable to the weyrfolk?" She asks curiously, eyeballing the pool he pointed to. When he mentions that he can leave, she shakes her head and turns back to regard him with pursed lips. "It's your sentimental spot and I'm the one intruding. You should be the one demanding that I leave. I don't care that someone else here." She squats down and runs her hand into the cool water, staining it with ichor washing off from her hands, but eyes on Th'res as if waiting for him to tell her to leave.

Th'res does the opposite actually, he reaches in to his jacket and pulls out a small bag about the size of child's fist. "This will help get it off, we used it in the mines when we would hit a bad vein of firestone and get covered in slag." He takes a few steps and sets it down next to her. Moving back to lean on the rail he says "And it is a hard spot to find, they did not lie." He looks over at her and says "I am Th'res Weyrling to blue Jedameth."

"What is it exactly?" Talya asks suspiciously of the small bag, not taking it yet as she gives her hands a good rub. She does not keep her hands in the water too long, colder than she anticipated. Her hands are still not cleaned off completely of the blood, especially under her finger nails where it appears it got caked in there.. "Okay, not a dirty liar then." And she seems very reluctant to admit that with a huff. Even with her dirty fingers, she tucks the jacket closer to her and sits back on her heels. "Th'res, Weyrling," she repeats, to solidify the name in her memories. "I'm Talya. Tunnelsnake hunter for the moment." She begins to work on picking the bits underneath her finger nails rather unattractively. What she was doing out here instead of hunting snakes in the caverns… well, washing supposedly their blood off her hands for one.

"It is sand soap with little pumice stones to help get the heavier grim out of." Th'res will say to what is in the bag. He nods his head when the young woman gives her name "Well met. And I will guess, welcome to the Weyr is also in order." He gives her a smile and nod towards the bag "Go a head and try it, if it doesn't take the grim off I will stand here for what ever punishment you deem fit."

Talya nods her thanks to the welcome, though she doesn't say anything about it. Besides tucking the jacket a little closer once more, it having slipped off her shoulders when she sat back. Her dark eyes narrow while her lips quirk up on the edges. "/What ever/ punishment I deem fit? Are you sure you would trust a stranger with that kind of power?" She moves again, opening the bag that was left beside her and grabbing a small handful of the soap. Kneeling closer to the water, she cups non-soap hand with water and begins to lather it in her hands. She's doing a poor job at really getting it everywhere. But after her previous dip and the picking, it seems to have done the job when she washes it off. Disappointment flashes just for a brief moment across her face before she picks up the bag and stands up. "Already, rough as it was, it did the job just as she said. Yet another honest person I ran into today. I feel like I'm on a roll." She holds out the soap for the rider to take. "Thanks."

Th'res shakes his head "keep it, in your line of work you are going to need it." He gives her another smile and adds "There are many dishonest people around, if that is what you are looking for though." Sadly he isn't one of those folks, nope just a nice guy is the blue rider as he readjust his jacket his wingleader knot can be seen as he looks up at the sky. "So may I ask what brings you out here this evening?"

Talya bounces the little baggy in her hand, feeling the weight of it. Not like it was a lot but… "Not going to want something in return?" She has to ask just to be certain. Free stuff is hard to find unless you hussle it out of another rider. "I'm from Black Rock. I don't think I ever met an honest person before now, and I ain't going to believe it til there's more solid proof on that." One or two good deeds usually do not outweigh more. She doesn't seem very trusting of Th'res even as he is being nice to her. She does give the Wingleader knot a good hard look. "It may or may not have been trading some dead snakes to a kid back there who may or may not be an honest person that told me to head in a certain direction and I'll find a nice quiet place to wash my hands and think. I can't imagine you have a lot of free time on your hands," she jerks her chin to the knot. "Is this all you do on your free time? Hide out?" Not that she can blame him, it was away from all the people and dragons.

Th'res is used to people distrusting others, it doesn't affect him, he must be getting feed back from his over friendly and overly happy dragon right now. He will nod at her and say "Yes free of charge, as you would say. I was a minercrafter before being searched, if you are looking for a good card or dice game you should visit the Tipsy Kitten." He looks up at the sky to answer her question "No, I haven't been back here since I first arrived, and this is one of the first free nights I have had since they let us move into our new weyrs."

Talya slips the bag into an inside pocket of the jacket she was wearing as soon as the word 'free' leaves the rider's lips. Gone, hers. "Gambling ain't really my thing. But I keep hearing good things about the Tipsy Kitten. I'll make my way there eventually. Something about a job available." For when the tunnelsnakes are more in control in the caverns, no doubt. She does not follow his look to the sky, but does flick her eyes up there in case she had to be cautious of a dragon or something coming down on them. "First free night? Since you arrived? That sounds absolutely terrible. Do Weyrlings die from exhaustion too?"

Th'res chuckles at the asking if weyrlings die from exhaustion "We sometimes we think that, but no usually we just pass out with our dragons and they let us sleep for a few hours." He brings his attention back to her saying "Well when I first got here, there was a volcanic eruption, that led to us finding people where they shouldn't be. That led to me getting put on a task to find an illegal mine which basically kept me busy until i was searched. And even after getting searched and a candidate I helped when they did find the mine. After that it was candidacy, and then weyrlinghood." He recants his life at the Weyr, but there is no hit of bragging, he doesn't even try to embellish anything. He realizes that he has babbled on and it is a good thing the light is dieing as the blushing pink on his ears moves down his neck. "sorry didn't mean to bore you"

"A few hours," Talya repeats incredulously. "I am surprised you don't just collapse on the spot or aren't holed up somewhere sleeping on this time off. Though this is a nice place to fall asleep to and never be disturbed." Now that it is in her head, she likely assumes that was his intention to begin with. She waves a hand towards the water's edge and the forest floor. "Feel free to lay down and get your feet up in the water or something. Don't mind me, stopping you." She moves towards the rail that he was leaning on earlier, happy to mirror him and relax against it. She listens to his story, nodding along with it. And then still noding when he apologizes for boring her. "Yeah, it does sound pretty boring," she agrees. "Th'res, it sounds like you need a life. You know, more than the weyrlinghood. Or after it." She wasn't very familiar with what the rules were.

Th'res chuckles and nods "You are starting to sound like D'ex, he tells me the same thing." When she assumes he is here to sleep he shakes his head "No thank you, my weyr is just over near the cliffs." He points to the path that would take her there if she was inclined to do so, "No just was out for a walk, sorry I am rather plain as they say." He is fine with this, as his dragon is the life of the pair. "I do have a relaxations, I stargaze, and I fish." yup those are his hobbies and frankly is the reason he is not a mubbling nut job.

Talya jerks from the rail at the name of the other rider. Oh, they've met. "I do hope I sound a lot smarter than that rider. And it pains me to think we have something in common, but he's probably thinking of a different kind of living experience for you." Paying for the company of women on different continents, for one. She looks in the direction of the man's weyr, noting the closeness to the waterfall. There's a sympathetic look when she turns back to him, moving closer and walking around him. "You look like you've been in a fight," she points out about his nose. "Or was it with a rock?" Miners. "So lots of staring. Staring at stars, staring at the water. Fishing is too much work with little reward. You could always go out to the Tipsy Kitten and stare at people, at least something may come out of that."

Th'res chuckles "Both, but mostly fights, I had a temper before I took my Journeyman's exams. And didn't always duck well, but I learned to box and it helped me focus." At the recount of his hobbies about it being waiting he says "It is true, but then I have been told I am more patient then stones I used to mine." and if the young woman meets his dragon she will understand that. When she talks about people watching he raises his eyebrows at the response saying "And what would that something be?" if she looks at his face she will see his honestly has no clue what she means by her statement.

"You had a temper? Uh huh… Sure you did," Talya drawls, and then cannot help herself, just states bluntly. "That's pretty hard to believe." Maybe teased and beat up, that she can believe. With a rock. A little while with the young bluerider and she seems to have him down completely… well, in her mind. "Do you still box then?" Because she's going to just pretend that it is true. As she was taking a walk around him, she slipped her arms into the jacket and stops before him with crossed arms now. "You'll either get into a fight or get into someone's pants. Either way it sounds like it will be the most excitement you will ever have in your life up til now. And from what it sounds like, you seem to have plenty of stamina to go on regardless of the activity." She takes a moment to think about it. "Though I hope to be there to watch you try." The socializing at the bar. Really. The staring and the fighting. Not the sex part.

Th'res shrugs and has nothing to prove to anyone, save maybe himself, "I do still box, why? would you like to spar sometime?" is his answer for that question. When she talks about stamina and getting into someones pants he is left blushing that no matter of night can hide as he says "Well I don't think either of those would happen" He shuffles awkwardly, in place clearly not understanding how to respond. Thankfully anything else is cut short when a swirling vortex of colors, invades not only his mind but the young womans as well. Blues, reds, and rough sand browns mix and dance as the overly happy, overly cheerful voice of Jedameth comes in « TH'RES YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS!! I WAS USING MY TAIL AND I CAUGHT A PINCHY THING!!! » and image of spidercrawler clutching the tip of the dragons tail comes into view then the voice is back « ALSO IT KINDA HURTS, BUT IT IS AWESOME I CAUGHT IT. »

"Sure," Talya agrees right away. "I'll spar with you." Whether it is for entertainment or to see if this is actually true of the bluerider… probably both. She actually grins, teeth and all, at the prospect. First big smile of the night. It only broadens when she makes the man uncomfortable. "Oh, I think one of those things can /definitely/ happen for you." She does not elaborate on which one of the two. While she wants to continue that train of thought and exactly what she thinks the bluerider may or may not be good at, the sudden intrusion makes her jump almost a foot in the air and well away from Th'res as if she was caught doing something wrong. "Bloodydamn mind screaming dragons, I don't think I can ever get used to that." She rubs at her temple a moment and glances at the rider. "You need to save your dragon." It may stop the violating mind intrusions. "Maybe I'll see you around, Th'res." She'll just have to find the best places for stargazing or fishing, or staring spots as she probably thinks. With a wave she starts heading off, head moving back and forth as if searching for said dragon.

Th'res sighs and mentally quiets his dragon » Now you need to apologize later, just pout your tail back in the water till I get there. «. He turns to Talya as she goes and says "Sorry about that. I should be free tomorrow after dinner if you wish to take up that offer to spar." He is already moving through at a run towards the cliffs where his dragon was supposed to be at. He still gives her a wave and a smile before he disappears into the foliage and is gone.
