Jungle

As the clearing is left behind, a deep silence permeates and soaks into the very ground that towering trees grow out of, accompanied by the humid heat of the enclosed rainforest. The silence is broken by the chittering call of wild firelizards, the chirruping of distant avians, and the ominous rustling of large, feline predators that stalk the deeper, heart of the jungle. Vines drape from the trees, falling to the jungle floor, which carries the hint of decay. Water drips from the canopy above, the soft sound almost musical against the echoing call of the jungles denizens. Westward, with the tangled overgrowth and the shadows of the deeper rainforest, the forest looms dangerous.
The area is thickly forested with many banyan and sandalwood trees.

It's a CUT ALL THE WOOD EVER DAY. A'hali's been AT THIS for a while despite the stormy weather earlier. His shirt is off and he's working at a steady space, the wood piled up next to him a testament to the amount of work he's done already. Chop. Chop. CHOP GOES THE AXE.

"A'hali, I really think that next time you should get someone else to come with you." D'ex is notably not chopping wood, instead, nicely cut peices are shifted back together and tied up before being lifted and secured onto Zynth's back. He pauses, frowning at a peice and thowing it back into A'hali's pile. "That one doesn't match."

It's like a guys day out! YEAH! Choppin' wood and stuff! If only they had a car to work on too. And a TV with… sports and… stuff… A'ndi has no problem with the work, having done it temporarily for a living. His pile is his version of neat, which is likely not D'ex's version. It is not as big as A'hali's pile, because Hal is a machine. Speaking of Hal, A'ndi has not looked at him pretty much since arriving. There's only so much glorious abs a man can take. "Quit complaining," he snaps at the bluerider. Meanwhile, Taliveth is staring at D'ex. As per usual.

"You can say no." A'hali points this out mildly as he swings his axe again and two pieces go flying in either direction. See, this is why it is good for both of them. "But then you would have to cut the wood yourself." Or get it from someone ELSE in the weyr who wouldn't cut it nearly as neatly as A'hali would. Instead of prying his axe out of the stump he's using as a base he lets it rest there and leans slightly on the handle.

Perhaps if A'ndi made his piles nice and neat like A'hali's, then maybe D'ex would load up his wood too. Perhaps. As it is? A'ndi's pile of wood is ignored, "If I said 'No' then all the vegitation in the area would be eaten and your wood wouldnt be organized." His tone might imply that this was a near-sin, almost offensive to him. It was hard enough keeping the ship weyr from breaking now that he wasn't living there, but unorganized fire wood? Unthinkable. His attention turns to A'ndi, "I'm not complaining, I'm informing." Eyes flicker between A'ndi and A'hali and the blue rider smirks, tone taking on a matter of fact note, "A'ndi, you can take your shirt off if you want to."

"Complaining, informing, same thing…" A'ndi hears the ceasing of Hal's axe, but he keeps going. Because A'ndi always has to work until he's DEAD. At least until D'ex's shirt comment, at which point A'ndi pauses, glances at D'ex to catch that smirk, and then replies, "I'm good. I mean unless you want me to." HE CAN PLAY THIS GAME TOO. Taliveth's google-eyes flitter between all three riders, and faintly in the backs of their minds a childish giggling breaks out. He's probably having the best time out of anyone here.

"I know how to stack wood." A'hali sounds faintly offended at the insinuation that he doesn't know how to do this thing. HE HAS DONE IT FOR A LONG TIME OKAY. Plus he's older than the other two. >:( Eyes flick between D'ex and A'ndi. "You two have… a thing?" Because that's what he just got out of their talk about shirtlesness. That they want one another~

Zynth has sat with a still, superior air, but now his head shifts so that one whirling eye can fix on the three. A cool frost touches D'ex and is ignored. D'ex drops another peice of wood into place, pulling up the rope and securing it. Rather than hefting it up onto Zynth, D'ex puts one leg up onto the pile, pulls his pristinely ironed shirt out from his belt and off over his head. It is folded, that smirk never wavering, "Nah, A'hali, it's not like that. A'ndi just wishes it was. It's a shame that he's not on a green, right?" This last sentence is directed toward A'ndi himself, head tipping to indicate A'hali. The smirk only grows.

A'ndi wasn't actually expecting D'ex to take his shirt off. Or to see anything of interest. But alas, he is turning away quickly and is gonna CHOP A LOT OF WOOD. Like he suddenly has this renewed burst of energy called Fuck You Guys But Not Like That Just Leave Me Alone. "There is no thing-" CHOP. "Would you guys stop wasting time?" CHOP. Taliveth looooks at Zynth. There's a mental snrrrrrrk. « heeeheeeehahahHAHAHAHAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAA- » SCREAMING INTO THE ABYSS.

« AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA »

« AAAAAAAAAAaaaa hahahaha ha. pffffff »

« Mmhhmmm. »

Guys, don't tease A'hali. He's such a straight arrow. "A'ndi?" He isn't back to cutting wood right now because he's looking at A'ndi and wondering if he REALLY DOES wish there was a thing between himself and D'ex. "You do not need to be a greenrider to pair up." A'HALI IS NOT GOING TO JUDGE THIS UNION OKAY.

The now-folded shirt is tucked away into Zynth's packs and he scoops up his wood. There is a serious effort to not laugh, "Such. A. Shame." D'ex hums, words still directed more towards A'ndi than A'hali. D'ex is fully aware that he is no where near as nice shirtless as A'hali, but a lifetime at sea does give one a respectable body. A'ndi's reaction was worth it. The snow now filling his head was ignored. The blue watches, silent even to his clutchmate, but flakes of cold make thier way into the abyss as well. Amused. Watched. Waiting.

Ohanaveth is going to stay out of this, okay? The shy turtle dragon is too quiet for this company.

A'ndi stops chopping but he is still gripping that axe like he's gonna use it. Taliveth's own eyes flash red suddenly. Red, yellow, red. Green! Blue? RED. There's odd noises leaking out from the brown's mental space; lots of static, and that sound when you turn the dial to change the station. Changing frequencies. Something *clicks* and he's back to green swirls once again, and A'ndi takes a deep, deep breath. Between his dragon's assistance and the fact that axe-murder is largely frowned upon on Pern, the brownrider finally turns to face the others. Calmly. So calm. "I am not pairing up with anyone. It's a waste of my time."

« I would make a pretty green, though. » thanks Taliveth.

A'hali's gaze flicks to TAliveth's sudden flickering of eyes and it's the dragonhealer in him that has him leaving behind the axe and moving towards the brown to CHECK on him. "You okay?" This is for TAliveth and A'hali is going to reach up to touch the brown. For the two behind him, "You wouldn't?"

Woa. D'ex is surprised, even without another chilled warning from Zynth, D'ex knows those murderous thoughts when he sees them. Goodness! A'ndi was so sensitive, the Mother, he should have know. Oh well, too late now and clearly A'ndi had himself under control. Murder in general is frowned on in Pern, even without weapons. Even without suceeding. D'ex would know. "You know, that's exactly what Zynth said when I tried to convince him to chase that Leapord Green last week." The words are casual and he shrugs, starting on his next bundle, "Rather inconveniate if you ask me, but you do you." Of course, Zynth's opinions on flights were hardly keeping D'ex from heading to Ista every now and then for folks with nice tans and unpronouncable names.

Taliveth makes a rumbly, purring noise as he lowers his face down to A'hali's level. The tip of his tongue sticks out in a little blep and he explains to the large man, « I was helping! When A'ndi gets mad I just- » And there's those dial-turning noises again. « Reset and try again! Deep breaths! These are your friends! » Tali's very proud of himself and leans into Hal's touch. More pets, please! A'ndi relaxes somewhat, leaving his axe to try and get his pile together. "Sex itself isn't inconvenient. But relationships are. Too complicated when it shouldn't have to be."

"You are a good friend for that." A'hali will keep petting the brown as long as he wants it, only quietly checking to make sure that there isn't anything else wrong with Taliveth at the same time. "Would you chase Caelisth next time?" A'hali has decided to just sidestep the whole relationship conversation, though he MIGHT hunt down A'ndi later and ask more bluntly about sexual preferences because this conversation TOTALLY cast that into doubt. "And you Zynth?" A flicker of a glance towards the blue. He's coming at the question via the dragons rather than straight out ask their riders.

D'ex pauses at A'ndi's words, then nods. He agreed completely. Relationships sucked. He had no doubt he might have children out there somewhere and getting married was a good way to pick up money, or at least agreeing to get married. D'ex wasn't sure he ever was actually married, he took off once he had the dowlry. But actual relationships? Yuck. The blue's attention shifts to A'hali, words echoing A'ndi's from only minutes before, « Chasing is a waste of time and effort. » His frost touches all three of the humans, including them all since apparently they all cared so much. D'ex shrugs, "We will be convincing Zynth to fly eventually."

A'ndi works on loading up wood on Taliveth while the lumpy brown thoroughly enjoys all the attention he's getting. He side eyes A'hali nervously at the question to his dragon. Because questions about Caelisth are also questions about Vani. « Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm » His orbiting junk swirls in serious contemplation. It's hard workf or him. « Yeah, I guess?! Maybe?! If it'd be fun! I mean, golly, I don't want to bother her… » A'ndi wipes his hands off against the sides of his pants, commenting, "Taliveth hasn't chased anyone yet. Not really. He tried asking some green from Serval if he could join in, and he never told me what exactly she said, but he ran away and spent the whole day sulking."

"I noticed." Even within the heat of the last flight A'hali noticed the absence of his closest friends from those vying for Caelisth's tail. He gives one last calming pat to Taliveth's head before stepping back to head towards his axe. "Would be reassuring if one of you caught. Not… someone else." Is there a good way for someone to ask someone else to please try to sleep with their weyrmate?

"Don't bother ever chasing L'ari's green in Siberian. The guy is a jackass." You know, just in case you were wondering why D'ex transfered wings. It wasn't the green herself of course, but L'ari? Jack. Ass. That D'ex has tried to get Zynth to chase every Green that has flown in the last turn is kept to himself. That the blue has refused is nothing short of frustrating. "The Sweetheart is your's A'hali. You'll be catching her Caelisth for turns." A'ndi or D'ex catching would be akward. Even if A'hali was asking. Trying and loosing might be more akward though … .

"What, did he turn you down?" Just. Can't. Help. Getting another jab in. Please excuse A'ndi, he's a shit. Having lost scritches from A'hali, Taliveth will now focus on trying to snuggle up to Zynth. Despite the wood they're carrying around. All this FRIENDLY BONDING has gotten the warship brown in a snuggly mood. However, it's just put A'ndi in an awkward one. "Uh.. can't you guys just go somewhere private, without any chasers?"

"Ohanaveth is slow." In the air, on the ground, the brown is a heavy dragon who flies heavy and loses A LOT. He bends over the axe and pulls it free to start polishing it so that he can wrap it up and slip on its cover. "He won because of her inexperience. He might not next time." So A'hali's kinda sorta asking without asking if the two of them will HAVE HIS BACK next time Caelisth rises.

"A'ndi the day you meet L'ari will be the day you understand." D'ex isn't even going to bother with that one. "Sex aside. Chasing aside. Relationships aside. Some people are just plain unbearable. He didn't turn me down! I would have never asked!" D'ex is a firm beleiver that Sex is a good part of any mental health, however given that his new spot in Lynx is only a few sevens old and he holds grudges, L'ari was part of the 'Damn You' list. D'ex's attention is pulled to A'hali, "A'hali, listen, I'd love to. I really, really would. But Zynth refuses to chase so far and I don't know if that is going to change. Not to mention if Vani would even let me. She's a sweetheart, but you know we clash." He nods toward A'ndi, "He can do it."

A'ndi is kind of on the spot again, in a different way. "Uh." He slowly spread his arms out in a 'ummm okaaaaaay?????' shrug. "I mean. I can try. I guess? I've never encouraged or discouraged him either way. I know he likes Caelisth so maybe if I nudge him enough…" He casts a slightly doubtful look at his dearest brown one. "Tali's not super fast, but I don't think he knows what the word 'tired' means. If someone doesn't outmaneuver him first, he can outlast pretty much anyone."

"It will be some time. And biology will win out." A'hali may not be a weyrlingmaster but he's done some work with dragon biology and he sounds VERY SURE about this. In his mind it's only a matter of time before the blue decides to chase his first piece of tail. "It's better if there are more." A'hali straightens himself and fixes D'ex with a gaze. "And you are smaller than I am. Both of you." Saying things WITHOUT saying things.

Zynth is fast, but with a blue's stamina and an insistance that he doesn't care about greens, D'ex doubts A'hali's words. Even if Zynth did decide a green was worth his time, D'ex didn't think he would win. That insane speed didn't count for everything when some dragons had that fancy flying, or like Tali, an endurance. D'ex shrugs, getting his last bundle secured and starts to work around the cuddleing brown to reach Zynth. "No promises A'hali, but I'd bet money that if Vani finds out your requesting us bed her, she would not be pleased."

A'ndi raises an eyebrow at A'hali's comment. "Why is that a problem now, but not normally?" Flight inexperience here. "Look, I think D'ex is right-" (le gasp) "-Vani would probably try to kick all our asses if she knew about this. You might want to… you know. Talk to her. About… your feelings." SHRUG. That's what couples do, right? Taliveth crooooooOOOoOOooooOOOoooons at D'ex but shuffles aside to make room. But he does nudge at his sibling's mental space, « pssssssst you two should come over, we have left over COOKIES and A'ndi didn't put the books back right. Fix it! »

Carefully A'hali is going to take the two into his confidence. "Then do not tell her." He's looking for a promise on this. BOTH of them should know that Vani will absolutely skin A'hali alive if they knew he breathed a WORD of this to D'ex and A'ndi. "Feelings have nothing to do with it. Look at her arms this next seven." The bruises shouldn't have faded by then. Maybe they'll understand. Abruptly the quiet man ends the conversation, "We should get back."

« Rest assured. As soon as the firewood is sorted, we will be there. » Cookies and fixing books? Who could ask for more? D'ex raises an eyebrow at A'hali, but offers a nod. "Yes, getting back. I brought glows if you need them." That crooning brown will be ignored and D'ex even goes as far as slipping to the other side of Zynth so that the blue is between himself and Taliveth while he secures the last of the wood, "Did you want your share dropped off tonight or tomorrow? Tomorrow I can organize it." Read: D'ex is not dropping off A'hali's wood until morning.

« YAY! I'm so glad! I'm not gonna tell A'ndi, I'll let it be a SURPRISE! » Taliveth loves surprises! A'ndi frowns at the mention of bruises, brows furrowing. He gets it. But he doesn't push the subject anymore and moves to Taliveth's side. "I can get it to you in the morning." A'ndi isn't even giving the option of tonight. He loves you Hal, but it's late.
A'hali doesn't think to ask the dragons to also stay silent, and is going to take D'ex and A'ndi at their UNSPOKEN promises. Rather than Ohanaveth carry his share of the wood A'hali gathers it up in his arms - well, as much as he can carry, and turns his feet towards the near-ish Shipweyr. "Be well friends." And his feet are taking him off~
