Abandoned Caverns

A tragedy of 400 turns ago wasted this cavern system which was, at its demise, private living quarters. The 'door' barring the entrance is a combination of loose wood planks and lumps of rubble too bothersome to move and suitable to make entering an unattractive past time. Not that there's anything captivating of the interior remains; a legitimate cave in of the base rock obstructs most of the ground though the chamber expands past its original dimensions when the wall to an adjoining room also collapsed. Grit and fine chips of stone carpet the floor, shreds of a rug are visible from under the weight of boulders. There is one undamaged glow sconce, but the vermin calling this abandoned cavern home aren't disclosing its salvageability.

It is the forty-sixth day of Autumn and 69 degrees. It is a clear night.

It has been a long long day for the new Weaver in town. First they tell Cormir that he is going to Igen to work under a journeyman there instead of going to the hall to study for his exams. Then first thing that happens when he arrives he gets scooped up to help fight Thread. And wouldn't you know it seemed like EVERY rider there got hurt some how, and worst off he had to do it all in barrowed boots. Exhausted when he was finally brought back to the Weyr he limped off to the nearest cave he could find to hide out and get out of those damned shoes!! Currently he is resting on a pile of rubble.

It has been many turns since Naneska was a new face around these parts. So she's adjusted to the rhythyms of a fighting weyr. This of course means that she has NO excuse to be wandering around these particular caverns at this particular candlemark. But here she is! With a shuttered glow the less charitable would call a 'Thieves Lantern', she rounds a corner and lo! There is a weary soul. "Oh…!" Comes her soft exclaimation. "Ye come here often?" Sure she could have started off with something more like 'Are ye lost?' but Naneska is as Naneska does!

Cormir was half awake really he was, but when the lantern and then the womans voice is heard he about jumps out of his skin. There is a very un-manly like noise that comes out of the tall Weaver before he gets control of himself panting "Like, geezz man, don't scare a fella like that!". He blinks a few times to let his eyes adjust to the light that is now in the room trying to figure out who just scared him out of his skin.

Naneska looks down, she isn't often mistaken for a man. Between that and the unmanly noises she isn't scared, more amused at this point in the encounter. "Next time, ye have me oath, I'll play a wee sonnet before coming along to check on my wares." These caverns have long been used as 'unofficial' storage; Naneska is just the latest in a long line to take advantage of the hiding spaces the rubble provides. Moving closer she sets her lantern under her face, so at least he has a face to put to the voice. "Ye know, they say these cavern's are haunted. Odd place t'be iffn ye don't want t'be scared." They probably say no such thing, but she can't get to her super secret hiding place while he's still hanging about. "Are ye new?"

Cormir shivers when she talks about haunted and looks around the room before looking back at the woman saying "Aye, I am new. Like, just came up from Ista." his voice gets a little high due to him probably believing in ghosts and the like. Hey stress does strange things to a mind, "I am Cormir, Senior Apprentice of the Weavers. Like it is really nice to meet you!" He offers her his hand then realizes it is stained with red wort and such so he pulls it back as that would be rude after all.

Naneska gives a little throaty laugh as she notices the withdrawn hand. "Naneska, a trader by … er trade." Instead of a handshake she offers a little salute complete with a wink for her verbal fumble, there are ways, and then there are ways of exchanging greetings. "A weaver huh? What's yer specialty?" Sure its not the fact he's huddled in a creepy cavern that captures her interest, but rather the potential for a new business relationship. "I like Ista, 'n I like Istans, 'tis a pleasure t’ meet 'ye as well Cormir."

Cormir gives a nervous laugh but says "Tapestries, well I can do simple clothes and the light but Tapestries is my speciality. Which is why they sent me here, there is..Like. a rumor that one of the dragons horded them or something so I am here to try to either fix them or help make new ones." He looks around the room again now that his eyes have adjusted "so Like where are we?"

Naneska's expression turns speculative in the light of her little lantern. "Tapestries yeah?" Oh she's definitely interested, and not just in the way Naneska is interested in most men. "Ye could always try Rosie's. I hear they have some… interesting tapestries that could do wit' a lil restoration." Of course, he may not be aware of that particular establishement and it's reputation. "'N iffn ye need to sell them along. I might jist be able to get ye a fair price." For a cut naturally! "I've not heard t' rumor of dragons hoarding them… but ye might want to try tracking down K'mine. He was a weaver." Before he met Naneska of course!

Cormir seems a little more confident when the subject turns to his work saying "Really? Well I wonder if Journeyman Rogers, will send me there first." He seems to be mulling this over when a weaver turned rider is mentioned "I think I remember him from the Fall today, didn't he get a scoring just recently?"

Naneska manages to supress her laughter, but not the snort of amusement. "Oh, aye. Speak t' ye journeyman 'bout Rosies. He'll be thrilled I'm sure." Oh oops! Naneska probably didn't intend for him to actually go. BUT THERE IT IS. She possibly may have done something similiar with K'mine… It's totally not a pattern, she's a trader not a weaver after all. "He did? Poor buggar. I knew him before he got all caught up in t' flame and gory injuries." There is a sympathetic moue at the news of his injuries. "'Tis what they do. All we kin do is make life a lil easier for them." 'They' being dragon riders in general.

Cormir nods along with what she says for abit before saying "And just be lucky enough not to have to be caught up in that world to much. Not that like I don't like them or anything but I know I am not brave enough for that!" He shakes his head trying to get the memories out from the earlier days events. His stomach gives and audible rumble, which again causes him to jump slightly before he chuckles nervously "Like, wow my bad, guess it has been a while since I ate."

Naneska chews on the inside of her lip for a moment. "'Tis likely ye'll be more involved than not, assigned t' the Weyr 'n all." She points out gently. "But dragons are fine people. 'Ain't naught t' be afeared of." It is possible that she may have assumed it was the dragons, and not the job he was scared of. And then there is a decidedly organic rumble from his direction. "Are ye lost?" SEE! She should have started with that in the first place. "I kin guide ye t' the living caverns. Should still be something t' nibble on iffn yer quick." And if she's even quicker she can return to retrieve whatever it is she came for in the first place. WIN-WIN!

Cormir nods and says "Like yeah I am totally lost." But when she gives the saving offer of guiding him he grins and goes to stand up only to wince slightly. "Like ouch man, those boots really wrecked my feet." He gives a glare at the offending boots in his hand before looking over to Naneska "Thank you again for helping me out.."

Naneska gives a shrug of careless grace, causing her lantern to bob and the shadows to flicker. "Think nothing o' it. First time's free. Second time I'll charge." For assistance. "Perhaps ye need t' speak to a tanner as well. Good boots shouldn't make ye feet ache. But most o' the debris have bin well and truly picked over so ye should be safe enough barefoot." Naneska is more than okay with such heathenism. "This way." She uses the lantern to point back the way she came, causing more shadows to dance.
