How did you find/join Harper's Tale MOO?

I loved dragons and saw a link to HT on someone's website. I hadn't read any of the books yet, but that didn't stop me! Such a n00b at the time, oy. No really. My first character's name was Goldbloom for all of a day, until I realized the twinky connotation a day later (after I'd consumed Dragonflight in about four hours). In my defense, I had no idea about dragon colors at the time! Once I did, I renamed her to Elehu, and thus began my HT experience!

HT was my first Mu*! While I've gone on to dabble in other Mu*s over time, I've remained on Harper's Tale in one form or another, and I intend to keep on keeping on.

The rest of the story

  • American by birth, but I've lived in Canada for over ten years now.
  • Aquarian (Faranth, am I ever).
  • I'm a computer support tech and trainer by trade, and a writer by hobby. I hope to switch those two someday, but, um… I'm possibly too lazy. RP tends to give me my writing fix, vignettes when just RP won't do, but who knows.
  • I love cars and hate people who don't. (Not really, it's just that automotive neglect makes my heart sad.)
  • I'm not a scary person, honest! If I'm the cause of something stressing you out, please, please, please know you can talk to me about it. The "Aquarian" thing above? I'm all about flow and harmony. I'm also headstrong, so if I'm doing something that bothers another person, it's more than possible my head is either too far in the clouds or too down in the dark to realize it, unless someone kicks me. So please. Kick me.

Image Name and Rank Played By Their Dénouements
Dredos-Thierry-Henry.jpg Dredos - High Reaches Headman Thierry Henry When Dredos first heard the gossip about the riders from the future, he was skeptical, sure they were just trying to con people itching for adventure. When he heard Rhaeyn was involved, though, it all changed. He held a deep respect for and loyalty to the weyrwoman ever since their candidacy together. After so many Turns, believing her to be gone forever, it rocked his foundation enough to leave him shaken. When the first shock wore off, however, and he came to believe the stories the Nowtimers were spinning, Dredos realized he would need to remain where he was. He was no hero, but he was High Reaches' headman. If they were headed for rocky times ahead, he would need to help keep the Weyr supplied and organized, and the weyrfolk busy.

Dredos did what he could to help prepare and outfit the riders, crafts and weyrfolk jumping forward. When the time came for final goodbyes, he was possibly a little brusque with some and coldly withdrawn with most. A select few got some more heartfelt farewells in private. After final wishes of good luck and clear skies all around, the dragons jumped Between. Dredos indulged in a single day of quiet introspection, then one of private meetings with some of the remaining key players at High Reaches Weyr and Hold. After that, the real work began.
Elehu-Catherine-Keener.jpg Elehu - Healer Master, Mindhealing and Pediatrics, Ista Weyr Catherine Keener For Elehu, it was never a question of whether or not the mysterious riders were telling the truth or not. She was 70 Turns old. If the 11th Interval and coming Pass needed Healers, then she had already done her part in training some of the younger ones who would be going forward. The best help she could be was to continue training while her health and faculties remained, and to record as much as she could to send with the other Healers, or to leave behind for those who would come after. Would Ista survive? She hoped so. It would have a better chance if some remained behind, despite knowing the risks.

G'deon - Dragonhealer, Rider of Bronze Nylanth at HRW, Ista, and Igen Heath Ledger, then John Noble Three Turns older than his sister Elehu, G'deon's reasons for staying were similar, if arrived at independently. He and Nylanth were hardly spring chickens, and like his sister, Gid had a legacy already in place. For Turns now, ever since leaving High Reaches, he'd worked diligently to train up new dragonhealers, providing a place in the old Smith Hall on Ista where riders could focus solely on their training, and where the seriously wounded could come for healing and recuperation.

G'deon also did not know whether or not these Newtimer riders told the truth, but like Dredos, he trusted Rhaeyn implicitly. If she said there was disaster coming, then the best help this old rider and dragon could offer was in the present, not the future. If this were an X Files episode, their tagline would read: "All Lies Lead to the Truth". In Gid's case, it would simply mean that it didn't matter whether they were lies or not. The riders jumping to the future would need a future to jump to, and if G'deon and Nylanth could somehow help that future come about by staying behind, then so be it. It certainly helped that all three of G'deon's children — Lanti, Il'ad, and Pidgery (a Smith posted in Keroon) — had also chosen to stay behind.

The days following the Oldtimers' departure was meant to be spent fortifying the Hall against the disaster to come. Their remaining Turns would then be focused on training as many riders as possible in the ways of dragonhealing, in the hope that the knowledge would survive, just in case the Oldtimers did not. After all, those who remained behind would never know whether or not their compatriots succeeded. It would be a leap of faith on all sides. But then that promised disaster struck all around him, and he went in search of a new future.

For a summary of that future, please check G'deon's character page, click here. He went between at the beginning of the 9th Turn, 12th Pass.
icon-lanti.jpg Lanti - Istan Senior Weyrwoman Jodie Foster Lanti resumed her position as Ista's senior weyrwoman in order to do the best she could to help her people through the coming disaster. She survived that time and helped Ista remain a viable Weyr, setting it up to succeed during the next generation. She eventually gave birth to a daughter, Delenna, ensuring that her brother Iliad's progeny was not the only line to extend from G'deon and Ilare. Lanti died at the respectable age of 96.

Teric-Gary-Sinise.jpg Teric - Smith Craftmaster, Woodcrafter Gary Sinise For Teric, the answer was simple. His duty was to Pern and to his Craft. If there was trouble coming, he needed to not only remain, but also remain strong. The threat from the future meant Smiths would be needed not only to prepare, but also someday to repair. Best get to work.
vergora_default.jpg Vergora - Former Igen Senior Weyrwoman Anjelica Huston Vergora was the senior (only, really) Weyrwoman when the Oldtimers joined the New in the Twelfth Pass. She went Between in the 9th Turn, assisted by G'deon and Nylanth.
