Firehead, still prevalent. Still a thing that's happening. Of the notables, Weyrlingmaster T'zaim picks up a nasty version of it. He seems to be stable and recovering now. If only everyone in the barracks was so lucky… A young blueriding weyrling searched from Southern Barrier contracts firehead and despite healer intervention, succumbs to the disease rather quickly. Assistant Weyrlingmaster S'nar, who contracted the illness before T'zaim, loses his sight. It's like someone unscrews the cap on a shook up bottle of soda. Because it's right after that the reports of death and blindness begin to come in from the more remote cotholds outside of Black Rock, one after another. It was bound to happen, not everyone accepted Healer help and others were just too far out to get to the main hold in time.

It begins to finally hit the wildlings as well, a group that for a long while seemed to be resisting even contracting it. Clans are beginning to congretate around the weyr, however whether that's entirely due to firehead vs the hunt for Rylov is unclear. It's making for some crampped quarters and people are arguring hotly about sharing infirmary space with sick wildlings and using up valuable medicine on them.

A situation that isn't helped by the attack on greenrider Francis and the loss of two full crates of infirmary supplies. Healer Hall will likely get together a replacement package soon, but those supplies aren't cheap and the Southern Continent isn't their only concern on Pern.

No one knows who was behind the attack in the infirmary. Officially. We're not saying it was pirates. But it was probably pirates.

Speaking of Rylov… No one has any idea where he is. Wanted posters have gone up for the people witnessed at his kidnapping, but how accurate they are is probably dubious. Quite a few false arrests have been made in Black Rock, leading to no leads. And as far as anyone knows, no ransom has been demanded. So what gives?
