Interested in SearchCo?! @send Clementine and Sa'mael by 11:59pm PST on May 4th!
What are the OOC requirements?
Application Deadline: TBA
Insta-Candidate and Stand-Only Application Deadline: TBA
- You should have reviewed the Search materials for Southern Weyr on the wiki as well as the posted copy of the Search Info Pack. We highly recommend you read and understand this package before submitting your application.
- Be sure you have also reviewed the game policies, Southern's policies, and Southern's theme information.
- Be thorough and clear in your answers! The easier it is for us to read, the happier we are. And yes, spelling and formatting do count. You'll get major brownie points if we're able to understand you without having to squint :)
- Be honest! Don't worry about trying to tell us what we want to hear; we'd rather know what you think, and you don't have to agree with us totally on everything! Be interesting, imaginative, innovative, and informative. A well thought-out application that lets your personality shine through comes over better than one that's tailored towards being Politically Correct.
- If you are not a current resident of Southern, be sure you have your area leaders' permission BEFORE you submit the application! Please check your area's policy section on the wiki to ensure compliance!
- Please don't rush through it, but please, please, please don't wait until the last minute, either. This is not to say skimp on any answers just to get it done, but if we can devote more attention to individual applications rather than getting 20 of them in the last few days of OOC Search, well…we'll be happier.

Candidate Itinerary
Welcome Candidates!
Here you will find an itinerary for each week of Candidacy. Each week will have a list of RP hooks and vignette ideas Are you excited, Candidates? Well, you should be, because we here at Southern’s SearchCo are, too! Let's make this a fun and character building experience, yeah? Please note that none of the scene suggestions are mandatory, they are there simply to foster ideas for RP.
Tiny Plots are Optional and Fun!
We strongly encourage Candidates to come up with TPs to run during Candidacy. TPs foster team building and opportunities for RP, and a chance for group story building and character development. If you would like some advice or help, feel free to contact your Co Leads, Evka and Amani! Otherwise, please @send *junglesearch with any TP ideas and wait for approval before implementing them. While TPs are not mandatory, we love seeing how creative you can get! So get together with your fellow candidates and brainstorm something fun!
A Little Note On Events and Egg Touchings
There will be at least one Egg Touching per week run by your Search Leads, Evka or Amani . Other Co Members will also run touchings at their own discretion. If you happen to check this page or with your fellow Candidates and nothing is scheduled, please contact Evka and she will get one set up for you!
Candidate Bingo!
Yes! There will be Candidate Bingo! The sheets will be sent out sometime after the start of IC search

Week One (March 1-7 2019)
Rp Hooks:
- Chores:
- Peeling Tubers, Clearing Catacombs of Spinners, Doing Dishes, Scrubbing the living Caverns, Running Errands, Laundry
- Candidate Robes:
- You'd better start planning those puppies NOW because man does that Hatching sneak up on you! Best start working on them! Do you need to draw a pattern? Do you know how to sew? Can someone or a fellow Candidate teach you? What supplies do you need? Is a chaperoned trip to the Boardwalk needed?
- PT:
- That’s right candidates, running, walking, swimming, tumbling, whatever it is, you need to be exercising!
Vignette Ideas:
- Journals and Letters Home:
- Does your character keep a journal? Do they write letters to loved ones? Write a letter home, or a journal entry (you know the Mindhealers say writing is the best thing in these high stress situations!), write about how your character is coping with the early days of Candidacy.
- Free Time (This Exists?!?):
- What little time Candidates have to themselves is quite precious. What does your Candidate do with theirs?
- Classwork!
- Candidacy isn't all chores and PT; there are Harper lessons too. What lessons did you take? What bookwork were you assigned?
Week Two (March 8-14 2019)
Rp Hooks:
- Inventory:
- Y'know, the stores and supply caverns are always in such disarray. Who better to take inventory and clean things up? You guessed it - Candidates!
- Beach Clean Up:
- Many wings use the beach for PT, dragon bathing and other such activities. Clean up any detritus or driftwood that’s about
- Swing Shift:
- Take a turn as wait staff in the living caverns for a banquet event. Wait and bus tables, roll silverware, pour drinks, serve appetizers.
Vignette Ideas:
- Family Visits:
- It's been IC weeks since you were Searched. Has anyone come to visit?
- A Day in the Life of You:
- Take one of your most recent group Candidate logs and rewrite it from your character's perspective.
- Firestone:
- Does bagging it just ruin your day? Hauling it maybe? Does the smell make you want to retch? Are you an old hand at it? Not liking the "dirty" work?
Week Three (March 15-21 2019)
Rp Hooks:
- Fresh Air…NOT!:
- Pull weeds in the kitchen gardens! Run laps around the lake! Play foot messenger or help out a rider!
- Candidate Ditch Day:
- It's kind of like Senior Ditch Day!
- Physicals:
- Yes, physicals. The Weyr has to make sure you're all healthy and ready to go for potential weyrlinghood before you step on the Sands, after all! Don't whine (or do, if you want); everyone's gotta do it.
- Firestone:
- Does bagging it just ruin your day? Sorry, Yes, it’s still happening!
- PT and Harper Classes:
- Get out and do some PT or get a Harper Lesson.
Vignette Ideas:
- Candidate Robes:
- Are they finished? Are you having issues with yours? Are you done and gloating?
- Internal Monologue:
- Give us a peek into your character's thought process. Do a small activity vignette that allows for an internal monologue of thought.
- What Have You Learned Thus Far?:
- Do a Journal entry on what you've learned as a candidate thus far
- Write A Letter Home
- Hey those friends of yours and that family of yours probably miss you! Write home!
Week Four (March 22-25 2019)
Rp Hooks:
- Making Candles:
- There is always a need for emergency candles in a weyr. After all, what if there was a glow shortage like they had in Southern? Best be safe rather than sorry.
- Sewing:
- Darn some socks, patch some pants, mend a coat! Work on robes?
- Double PT:
- Weyrlings are expected to be fit to keep up with their bonds, so get a head start now! PT sessions have doubled!
- Hauling Trash:
- Hey, someone has to do it, right?
- Sands Etiquette Training:
- There are certain rules to be learned when entering the Hatching Sands. See if you can snag a few fellow Candidates, or just yourself, and ask a goldrider, bronzerider, or SCo Member about Sands etiquette. Also remember to read the Hatching Manners page on the wiki.
Vignette Ideas:
- Self Choice:
- You pick a topic and write a vignette about it.
- ROBES:
- AREN'T THOSE THINGS DONE YET?
- Nerves:
- Is your character nervous? Scared? Excited? Do a journal entry.
- Quiet Moment:
- Have a moment of quiet and calm, reflect, doze, trim your nails…or something.
To Be Announced….
I'll be AFK during Candidacy. What should I do?
First, consider the duration of your AFK period. Candidacy typically lasts only a few RL weeks; if you plan to be gone for more than a week during this time period, it may…
- Make it harder for you to bond with your fellow Candidates.
- Make it difficult for SearchCo to get to know you and create a "great" dragon for you.
- Mean that you should consider alternatives.
If you're going for traditional Search, a long AFK period will be a consideration of SearchCo. That's not to say you OMG DEFINITELY CAN'T IMPRESS, but it can be a contributing factor.
You can always consider going for Insta-Candidacy (where you make your own dragon) to guarantee an Impression, or going Stand-Only at this Hatching and waiting for one where you won't have an AFK.
Regardless, please @send your SearchCo to alert them.
I changed my mind about <thing> on my application/questionnaire. What do I do?
@send your SearchCo to alert them.
Whether this is a month before the Hatching or a minute before the Hatching, please tell your SearchCo right away. They will field the issue accordingly.
Do I have to live at Southern to be Searched and Impressed?
Absolutely not!
You do have to be approved for RP by a guide, and you have to be a resident of either Igen or Southern. If you live at Igen, you must let them know that you intend to apply for Southern Search according to their policies.
How do I improve my odds?
Roleplay.
No, seriously.
Roleplay.
We want RPers here. Get out and play. That's seriously your best bet.
Do I have to be online for the Hatching?
The short answer: Yes.
The long answer: Read our Hatching Etiquette page.
I found an error on the wiki/a mailer/wherever. Who should I tell?
@send your SearchCo. They will handle it. :)
