The Southern Comfort

Something of a rogue among Seacrafters, Captain Kurush and his crew often play fast and loose with the rules and regulations of seafaring. With a history of occasional smuggling (for a good cause!) and accepting stowaways without batting an eye, they're a rag-tag bunch of misfits that still manage to do their duty on the day-to-day.

The Southern Star

The Black Mark

Captain Kivitz of The Black Mark is reputed to have earned his place by killing his predecessor - though only his crew will know the truth. He leads a fleet of four ships and all of them are seasoned in the art of plundering on the high seas. To sail with him and his crew is to flirt with both riches - and death.

• Let the rumor mill grind! What does your character think of Bensarm's situation? Do they care? Do they want to head over and try to sneak a peak of the to-be-wedded pair?
• Guards at Black Rock will be put on extra patrols - but why? No one is saying, but suddenly there's a lot more work to do - especially if Bensarm and Tikkani are expected to be seen in public.
• Until the pirates are gone, other shipments are also going to be delayed unless there's some kind of intervention.
• Is your character waiting for something vital on those redirected ships? Will their projects wait the extra sevenday or two for things to arrive?
• Some imported goods that are supposed to arrive… won't. At all. Did your character lose something valuable? Are they holding out hope that it will still arrive?
• Dolphins are reporting some items being discarded into the ocean - things like empty crates and barrels… and some not-so-empty ones, too! Will they recover some lost goods that weren't deemed valuable enough?
• Food airlifts will continue (thank you, Sriella!) for as long as livestock is being shipped - but how long will that be?

• Black Rock's Fleet still isn't engaging, except to periodically run off pirates that get too close - what does it mean?
• Some goods are being diverted to other ports - but that adds considerably longer delays, as they must then be transported overland via wagon or via boats that skirt the coastline. Can dragonriders help with some of it? Will your character bribe one to try?
• Not all exports out of Black Rock Harbor will make it to the north. Will your character have to make or provide replacements? Will they have to pay more for deliveries to go through another port?
• At Black Rock Hold, rumors have cropped up around a black market - but is it true that stolen goods are on offer? Then again, if you need something, it can be yours… for a price.
• Seacrafters are now in a state of alert - and those that make it to Black Rock Hold or further down the river to Southern Weyr itself will be looking for protection. Guards, weapons, and/or armor - suddenly, there's an increased need for all of those, as well as firelizard eggs to ensure the crew has some way of calling for aid.
• The festivities around Bensarm's betrothal have died down, but the pirate activity seems to have soured the mood all the more.
