SW Plot: Grub Blight - sw_byoa_grubs
The Southern Continent has seen an influx of people for the past ten Turns, many of them settling in holdings, cultivating farmholds, living much different lives than the wildlings. They bring new livestock, northern cultivars, different methodologies for farming and husbandry, et cetera. This is bound to have an impact on the local flora and fauna, including the grubs.
Bioengineered or not, the Southern grubs were living without any human contact for centuries and have evolved. Now, in response to unknown anthropogenic causes, they begin to decline in numbers and efficacy. They're noted to be physically smaller, less mobile, and have stunted reproductive capabilities. Presumably, this decline has been happening for quite some time, but the cumulative effects haven't begun to really surface until recently.
The Farmcraft and Beastcraft hastily dispatch representatives to begin studying the problem, and Southern Weyr now faces a catastrophic dilemma: how does one Weyr protect so many people without a fall-back plan?
Welcome to Southern Weyr's plot for the Winter/Spring of 2017!
The Grub Blight is a "bring your own adventure" story: your characters are only as involved as you choose to make them. We are offering adoptables and concept suggestions (crafters and insta-riders) for people looking to pick up a new alt, and there will be plenty of places for existing characters to get involved along the way.
This is an open-ended plot. Although SW Staff have a rough working timeline, we honestly don't know how this story will end, and we're excited to see what the PCs do in response to such a massive predicament.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to @send *sws.

Herders

Additional Crafter Concepts
These are some general ideas to give people a starting point for what might work within the ongoing story. If you grab one of these ideas, please @send *sws so we can mark it off (and not wind up with 30 of the same archetype wandering around). :)
- The Almost There Apprentice - This whole show is the perfect chance for an apprentice on the verge of promotion to tip the scales in their favor. Someone sent to assist this operation in order to prove they're ready to walk the tables is perfect. Maybe they get overwhelmed and flounder!
- The Never Gonna Get There Apprentice - On the flipside… this is also a great way for the Hall to shove out some hanger-on that obviously isn't going to make the cut. Maybe hoping he/she will wander off. Maybe they finally find their niche, and that niche just happens to be grubs.
- Still Wet Behind the Ears - A brand new apprentice tailing a Journeyman or Master and just getting their first taste of what it really means to be a practicing crafter. This is a lost little lamb.
- Grossed Out By Grubs - After getting all the way to the Southern Continent, this Apprentice/Journeyman actually gets to see grubs for the first time, and finds them absolutely repugnant. They struggle the whole time.
- Riding Daddy's Coattails - When your parents are high enough ranking in the Craft, you kinda get special treatment. This Apprentice/Journeyman is only on this assignment because their father insisted, and they're kinda okay with that. They've been riding daddy's coattails their whole life, why stop now? But maybe the Weyr will be an eye-opening experience.
Riders
Additional Rider Concepts
These are some general ideas to give people a starting point for what might work within the ongoing story. If you grab one of these ideas, please @send *sws so we can mark it off (and not wind up with 30 of the same archetype wandering around). :)
- The Told-You-So Rider - Older, always knew the Oldtimers were trouble and that Southern Weyr was bound to fail, this dragonrider is coming to the Weyr to gloat more than anything. Sure, they can fight Thread with the best of 'em, but they mostly just want to be here when it all falls apart.
- The Optimistic Rider - Truly believing that a united coalition of riders can come together and save the Southern Continent, this rider is here to band together! Rally the troops!
- The Dregs - Having hopped from Weyr to Weyr to Weyr, followed by a trail of bad decisions and poor performance, this rider is just adding Southern to their list of attempts to make a fresh start. Not great as a fighter, not an especially adept leader, their mediocrity won't exactly help the cause. But maybe no one will notice.
